World Cup 2018 Qualifiers

This generation of Argentina are some good players but they just don't show up for the National team.

Shocking result and performance. Venezuela could have actually won it at the end with a few better decisions. Sampaoli got his subs wrong and I hate the fact he's going with this formation when there are 0 good argentinian wingbacks.

Both Acuña and Acosta are pretty good players but they're not wingbacks and neither is Di Maria. Dybala, Messi and Icardi upfront, plenty of the ball and there's lack of creativity and fluidity in the team. How is that even possible?

This squad should be doing a lot better, this is the second best squad in South America ffs and they can't even beat Venezuela at home?

This is going to be an absolute shitshow of a dogfight in October to qualify from CONMEBOL. Can't fecking wait.

Meanwhile the whole of Brazil can sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

i was joking obviously while putting emphasis on how poor are Pizarro and Biglia...tbf not only them, the whole team is abysmal offensive wise.

Just as bad defensively tbf. There's zero protection for the defence in that midfield while also nothing going forward either. Their mids are literally useless.

, I'm enjoying this dog fight.

Judging by the games they have left Argentina will most likely qualify anyway. Especially since Paraguay are losing.

Jammiest goal ever for Uruguay. OG but Suarez claiming

Two jammy goals, actually.

Mental how people will still bring up how Argentina have a world class squad whenever criticising Messi's international career.

So much garbage in that team.

They have great talent in attack but, they do not mesh well together and the midfield and defense is meh.

The point is that even the great attacking talent does not translate into actual performances and results on the pitch.

First time we beat Paraguay away in WCQ. Same with Bolivia away. Will be the difference between qualifying and a play-off.

If I'm not mistaken, the only CONMEBOL qualifier that has not had its kick-off time confirmed is the Argentina V Peru match on the 5th of October. Can any South Americans shed light on when they might announce the time? Thanks.

Whenever the Argentinian FA make up their mind as to whether they are better off putting pressure on others or gambling on knowing other results being better.

Squeaky bum time galore.

Are Acuna and Acosta both wingers for their own clubs, but play as wingbacks for the Argentine national team?
I once told a few websites that their information was wrong when they reported that both Acuna and Acosta as central midfielders. They took the information from a guy based in the UK who probably does not know South American football since both players are not well-known. I just want to make sure what I told them was correct.

For once, international breaks are actually entertaining. Thanks to Syria and South America.

Sanchez is already struggling to raise his game. If Chile don't qualify for the world cup, he'll just give up on Arsenal. Can't wait to see aftv react to that :D

If I were from Ecuador, Paraguay or Peru I would be incensed at the two points + three goals gifted to Chile by Conmebol. Will very likely be decisive.

Actually if nothing ever happened we (Chile) would be fifth rather than sixth hahahaha, we'd be closer to the WC.

I've never actually been bored with international breaks because I just focus on South American football. It's just so good. Staying up late watching the likes of Neymar destroy teams, batshit insane referees, and random animals walking onto the pitch in the middle of a counter-attack is fantastic entertainment.

I'll never forget Copa 2015.

Just had a look at the South American qualification table. Just 7 points seperating 2nd to 8th and Argentina are out of the top 4 automatic qualification positions.

Does 5th place going into a play off match?

Argentina is 9th out of 10 teams in goals scored only ahead of Venezuela. Unbelievable.

5th is almost guaranteed qualification, they playoff against mighty New Zealand.

Anyway, they'll probably batter Peru in the next game and that will be that.

Peru are not going to roll over that easily. They will give Argentina a game as they have a real chance themselves.

Looking very bleak for Chile out of the three. Even a relaxed Brazil with nothing to play for is still no push-over. Going to put Sanchez in a grim mood for sure.

I'm not saying they'll roll over, just that Argentina will get the result when they really need it.

As for Chile, Brazil might gift them the game if it could knock the Argies out.

WC without Argentine and Messi :nono:

WC without Argentine and Messi :nono:
Not a big fan of international football,
not a fan of Argentina,
not a fan of Messi,
would find it funny if any of the usual suspects fail to qualify. :D

I cannot remember a worse Argentina in my lifetime. Their lack of quality midfielders and defenders is shocking for one of the all time greats. And Sampaoli's system doesn't play to their strengths either.

Looking at the games left, I think Uruguay is in with games against Venezuela and Bolivia (at home). I think they get 4 points from there and qualify directly. The rest will be a battle royale.

People really overrated how difficult South American qualifying is. Yes the overall quality of teams is pretty good, but the individual pressure per game is so much lower than in Europe. Chile lost seven times in 16 games and face the same problems as Ireland, who lost once in eight games. In Europe or Africa two losses can break your neck. Way more chances to correct one or two bad results in South America.

Jose Mourinho: “The European qualifiers make me angry. The South American qualifiers excite me. I enjoy football taken seriously, not for fun. In the South American qualifiers, football is serious, there are a lot of good teams, on similar levels. Even those who aren’t as strong as the others find some way to create difficulties. Mourinho continued: “In Europe, the qualifiers are a joke. We qualify and who doesn’t goes straight to the playoffs, where there is a brutal difference between the teams. In South America, the qualification stage is a true competition that lasts two years.”

Yes so what. He is wrong.

Yes so what. He is wrong.

In Europe, do they put let's say France, Portugal, Italy, Germany in one group? No. Do any European team have to play in the conditions like the heat of barranquilla or 12,000 ft above sea level altitude of La Paz or 9,000 above sea level of Quito.

 It would be hilarious if Peru pip you to it by a point. After all that moaning shitshow...

Question: are you better off with Sánchez not starting against Ecuador? It seems he has been out of sorts, but a month is plenty of time to screw your head back on. Who is the backup?
