Zinedine Zidane | Resigns

Zizou to be United gaffer from the start of the 19/20 season after a years sabbatical?

More than likely to be the next France manager though. What a legacy to leave, hard not to admire him too.

I wonder if he goes upstairs? I can’t see him manage anywhere else other than the French NT. Either way he has cemented his place in both Real and football’s history as a monster legend.

Did not see this coming. Curious to know why he resigned.

I think it could have something to do with the manner in which he quit football as a player. Disgraceful, shameful, embarrassing. It broke him to pieces. Now he's walking away from a coaching job as one of the greats in the business, after winning the CL title back to back to back. That's what you call full circle.

Can imagine what he's thinking. "You've fecked me".

Doing a Guardiola there, well, just in the sense that he's stopping after winning and probably taking a sabbatical, not the humble part where he thinks that the team needs a change to continue winning.

Just waiting to see if he'll headbutt Perez in the chest on the way out

I would never manage again if I was Zidane. Think he's been hugely fortuitous in his time at Real and was only a game away from the sack. That said, and unless he screws up elsewhere, history will regard him as one of the greatest ever. Why soil the record? Clearly didn't fancy the demolition job required at Real and who can blame him?

9 titles in 2 and a half years, just an incredible start to his coaching career and he's leaving on top like a boss, he's the first manager I can think of in a long time to leave and not be fired by Madrid. My Spanish is not the best, and we're getting some of the translation as we speak, but it seems like he was hinting at issues with the players unless I completely misunderstood that. Either way, after three CLs in a row, things can get stale and it's definitely a very shrewd move by Zidane to leave now. I have no idea what he'll do next outside of the France NT some time down the line.

Didn't Guardiola resign after the defeat to Chelsea in the CL? Seems a bit different to me.

What a legend.

3 straight CL’s and he steps down on his own terms. Don’t know if that’s genuine or rumblings behind the scenes in RM for squad turnover but nonetheless it’s a relief to see someone calling the shots and not that club.

...shocking, I wonder how the players feel.

Imagine resigning after winning an unprecedented 3 CL trophies in succession.

Football is a crazy business.

They’re coming to the end of the era, I don’t blame him. Probably nobody will match what he’s achieved either, what a legend. Hope he nutted Ronaldo in the chest before walking away.

Didn't expect this, but fair play. Going out at the top at that club. Struggling to think of a name to take over.

To be fair, he said several times that he isn't convinced that with him the team will continue to win, so it makes a lot of sense.

He'll probably take the France job eventually. International football is a more chill job, plus it's less likely to tarnish his club manager reputation even if he doesn't do well there.

A decision from someone who loves the club and honestly glimpses that they can stop winning if he continues.A "new impulse" as Florentino says.
I'm sure he'll come back

Probably realised there's a rebuild needed and he wasn't feeling up to it.

Got a great record, but we never got to see how he would do in the transfer market. Did he sign anyone in his time at Real?

Classic case of quitting while you're ahead.

Still not convinced he can do it on a rainy night in Stoke so to speak. Guess that's just fodder for the endless how much impact those the coach have an a team with this much quality debate.

Wow, what a story. 3 CL wins on they trot.

He’s the one person in football that deserves that sort of success too, he should retire from management as a whole now as it will never be topped...

Legend.

Good call. That could definitely be something on his mind.

Great and thoughtful point.

Surprised. Despite winning three Champions League titlea on the bounce, he could have still done a lot better in the league. Very surprised by his decision.

Be interesting to see where he goes. Maybe Chelsea. He's always spoken about his admiration for Hazard. Either that or Juve, I guess.
