IIRC Schmiechel's comments on Lindegaard were heavily twisted by the media.
Oops, I think you're right. Wait.

Edit: I can't find it now, but I'm sure a newbie PM'd someone saying it was during a Copenhagen Champions League game, Schmikes was asked about Lindegaard and gave his opinion without excitement, the press made the rest. You're right, it was twisted.

Random aside

Am I the only one who thinks he looks like an Alpaca Llama?

He will start on Sunday.

"De Gea will play on Sunday," explained Sir Alex. "I think the long-term view is De Gea, it's the reason we bought him and spent £18million, and we’re giving him a chance, I think he was unfortunate with the second goal, he had no chance with the first goal. Anyone who’s criticising any goalkeeper, when these free-kicks come in, and all the defenders are converging on top of him, the goalkeeper has no chance because the delivery is so good.

"It’s the same with Joe Hart interestingly enough and there was no criticism of him for the goal. Exactly the same type of goal that City conceded. He’s your national goalkeeper so the goalkeeper has absolutely no chance when the ball gets whipped in like that. Absolutely no chance because it only needs a fraction of a touch and the goalkeeper's dead. He comes for it and he looks silly, he’s got to hope that the defenders deal with it and that’s what we hoped and our defenders didn’t deal with it."

"On the second goal last week, he was stepping forward and then he took a step back and he got a bit unbalanced.

"It wasn’t a goalkeeper's mistake, more of a technical mistake in terms of his feet. We didn’t expect that and he wouldn't be doing that again, it’s just one of these things. The ball did move a bit, maybe about two feet. He’ll be fine."

The former Atletico Madrid keeper is wasting little time becoming integrated at United and adapting to his new surroundings.

"He’s learning a lot of things," added the manager. "He’s doing very well with his English, he’s taking it on board very well. His language teacher is delighted with him. Eric Steele, the goalkeeping coach, is pleased with him. He’s getting his communication across bit-by-bit."

Someone on tumblr keeps posting this macro

But alas, he will always be David de Beard to me.

Fergie found the perfect words. Will be back to normal and I am sure he will have a good game. Dont forget, he's still learning

We've just been spoiled with van der Sar for the past few years who towered above everyone. Not all keepers are that tall.

Phil Thompson can feck off!

"I think the goalkeeper De Gea could be a problem"

Whats the betting Thompson has never watched him at Atletico?

People would have welcomed Casillas or even Reina with open arms and both are shorter than him. He's tall enough, the reason for both goals has not been his height. But people need something to complain about, dont they?

Who is complaining?

He will be fantastic for us and have the goalkeeping position covered for the next 15 years

Why wasn't that posted at the time?

So the three biggest clubs in the world all have a Spanish number one, and England have to call up Rob Green. Life isn't fair...

Casillas, Valdes, Reina, De Gea, Asenjo, Palop

Not a bad selection of keepers to have. Keep in mind, in England's last team two of the three keepers were championship based.

I'll admit I still need to be convinced by him but that's because I've barely seen him play for Athletico. Hopefully he comes good but he'll make mistakes this season as any young keeper will.

Liverpool are not the 4th biggest team in the world.

Aye...But if he meant Liverpool, no chance. Bayern/Milan/Inter/Juve are easily bigger.

In terms of what? Support/Success?

Milan have 7 European cups and a larger fan base.

Both. Liverpool have only two less European cups than Milan, and a very large and loyal support base. Their problem is they haven't properly leveraged it in this modern era.

Please don't make me have to go on. I already feel like I need my mouth (well, fingers and brain) scrubbed thoroughly.

Both? How does 5 > 7 in terms of Success? And to reiterate I'm almost certain that Milan have a larger fan base.
