Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

From the Nasri thread, bolded the interesting parts.

From this intepretation, I'm seeing it as Modric can play for a CL team in the group stages even if Redknapp plays him tomorrow as there is no way that Spurs will qualify for the CL group stage.

No. The part you have bolded applies to players who played only in the first, second or third qualifying round of either competition. Spurs are in the Europa League playoffs, so if they field Modric he won't be eligible for any other club in the group stages of either competition.

I doubt it,hardly takes bottle to have an internet wager.

I am prepared to up the ante after what I have heard tonight,I would like to up our wager to say £500 and I am happy to give the money to a person of trust to hold till the window closes or the trasfer goes through, you up for that?
Look, barring a reactionary fit on my part when I offered that prat, Lance-whats-his-name a bet that he declined, I have no great wish to take the bet to such levels of unfriendliness. I'd prefer to leave things as they are with you: a £50 stake.

But if you can easily afford to risk losing £500 (I've no wish to put anyone into difficulties), and if you have a strong desire to really push it against me, then I'll accept. For my part I can afford to lose £500, but I think I'd win the bet anyway.

So, I'd prefer not to up the stake so dramatically for the reason stated, but I will if you really, really want to. But I suggest we keep it at the current, reasonably friendly level - OK?

Yeah because they way you keep offering to bet people who disagree with you is really friendly....

Really, guys, if you have this much money to waste just give it to me, at the moment I can't afford to lose even £10.

Celthenham, I like you buddy, but this is silly.

Betfair is offering odds 2.95 on Modric leaving according to Oddschecker. Just go on there instead and you'll get twice as much as you will from betting with Glaston. In fact, Glaston is probably betting on Modric leaving himself as a sure bet.

I regret having reacted - by calling his bluff- to the unwarranted, pathetic comments from Lance-what's-his-name.

Beyond that, if I wasn't trying to keep things on a reasonably friendly basis I'd have just accepted the new bet you offered, because it's not as though I think I'd lose ... quite the opposite.

I was influenced by alchohol a little and agree it was very silly,Glaston for his part gave me an avenue to back out from my chest thumping bet so I will now remain silent and promise no more stupid bravado driven attempts to up the ante :nervous:

Spurs will not raise £40 million from selling fringe players. Players who played the majority of your games last season are no fringe players.

Sky saying he's currently talking with Levy.

Not playing for Spurs tonight...... 'hamstring injury'
The tie is over anyhow. We could play our first year academy team and Hearts would still probably not win by the needed 5 clear goals.

So even if fit, I doubt Harry would want to risk a Modric injury such a pointless game, He'll avoid fielding as many first XI players as he can tonight.

Spurs could've cup-tied him though.

Spurs could've cup-tied him though.
True.

But why bother doing it (and risking injury) just to end continued media speculation, if the club know that he's staying regardless?

Redknapp confirms he's staying. Glaston's got a fair amount of cash coming in.
Still just short of a week left for Chelsea to come in with an irresistable offer, and with them having already spent £25 million or so on Mata and £18 million (?) on Lukaku, as well as the £70 million in January and the £13 million or so to get AVB from his contract, I dont think its so definite that Abramovich wont sanction a £40 million+ offer if need be.

I don't think whatever Harry says transfer related should be taken on face value. Not saying that Modric will leave.

That's just comes across as something you're desparate to believe as much as wr8 making up theories about why Sneijder is still coming.
I've no need to be "desperate to believe" anything as far as Modric is concerned ... because it has always been obvious that Spurs would not sell their best player just one year into a 6 year contract unless a completely ridiculous amount of cash was offered.

The only desperation in this thread has come from those muppets who continued to believe/hope that Levy would be rolled over despite the crystal clear, very strong statement that he made ... and made from a position of strength, both financial and contract-wise.

Besides, it's just basic common sense that Modric, even if fit, would not be played in the 2nd of two-legged tie that was already totally dead and buried.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but then Harry's been saying he could go and his stance appears to have changed to that of the chairman.

What's the reaction to Modric likely to be at Spurs do you think? Any boos?

40m+ won't cut it.

One or two perhaps, but generally not ... as was seen when he came on during a pre-season friendly at WHL.

Weird how a Spurs fan with over 5000 posts on a Man United forum doesn't even comment on the game his team just played against Man United.

Instead focussing on inane transfer bullshit and pointless Europa League games.
Don't be an idiot. This is a transfer forum and a thread about Modric.

But if you're desperate for a comment: Spurs lost, as usual, away to Man. Utd, playing with Livermore and Kranjcar in CM ... as distinct from Modric and Sandro. It's hardly "season over" for Spurs.

Happy now?

Personally, I couldn't give a feck about your opinions on the game, but for someone who only talks about Spurs and nothing else on a Man United forum, to not actually make comment on your game against us is pretty weird.

Though I'm sure if you'd scraped a point you'd have been much more vocal.

Aside from rubbing his nose in it what exactly is your point here?

Then why bother making your comment in the first place? Especially in a transfer thread ...

It strikes me that you're just pissed off that all the stupid predictions about Modric's sale have proved empty. I can only suggest that next time you employ a few extra brain cells.

I've never understood clubs keeping players against their wishes. I'd rather my club got relegated than play someone who does not wish to be at the club. I took the same stance when Ronaldo, and Rooney wanted a move. However, I would never boo a player once he is on the pitch playing for the club.

What the feck are you talking about?

I'd be absolutely delighted if Modric stays at Spurs, because if he goes anywhere it's Chelsea, and I don't think any of us want to see that, apart from Chelsea fans.

I made the comment because I remembered how you only comment on Spurs matters, but for some reason had completely avoided making any comment on our recent game.

I thought it was weird, that's all.

If I, as a United fan, had 5000 posts on a Spurs forum, I'd think it would be weird not to comment on a recent game between United and Spurs.

I think your well-polished disappearing act has been noted by a few people actually Glaston, not just Kraftwerker.
Disappearing act? The league season has 37 games to go sunshine

I must have posted on here at least 10 times since the Man. Utd game ... although I appreciate that this match was such a long time ago

Some of you muppets are so desperate to try and point score at every turn ... don't you ever find it embarassing?

Calm down for heaven's sake. Are you really disputing that you have a tendency to go missing on here whenever things go tits up for Spurs?
