Galati to avoid 'embarrassment' | Football News | Sky Sports
Otelul Galati president Marius Stan admits avoiding humiliation will be the club's primary objective when they host Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
The Romanian minnows, making their debut in Europe's top club competition this season, are currently struggling halfway up the domestic league table and are without a point so far in continental competition.
Stan concedes leaving the National Stadium in Bucharest with their heads held high on Tuesday evening will be enough for his side.
He said: "The simple objective from this game is not to end up being embarrassed."
Coach Dorinel Munteanu was more optimistic in a pre-match press conference, insisting that is not Galati's sole aim.
He said: "That is the president's opinion, not our target."
Respectful
Galati lost 1-0 to Benfica a fortnight ago at the same ground, which is 150 miles away from their home on the Moldovan border - a venue which does not meet stadium regulations.
Reports after that game suggested the Romanian side were too respectful of their Portguese visitors, but Munteanu added: "It will not be like that again. I am convinced of that.
"I have only been a coach for five years, so it is fairly obvious to say this will be the biggest night of my career. But I intend there to be many more."
Munteanu admits he is in awe of counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson, who will celebrate 25 years in the United hot-seat early next month.
"It is amazing. Absolutely amazing," he said. "No-one will ever do that again. They won't even get close."
