James Milner is top 4 material.

Erm, what? You do understand that to get 40 games there he would play 2 out of every 3 games they play? There is absolutely no way he would get a game in their central midfield, not now, nor ever, and he would be an absoute liability if you put him in their front trio because he's nowhere near good enough on the ball to succeed in their formation.

Do you rate Affelay above Milner? I don't, add that to the fact Milner is more versatile I would think he would get more games in the Barca side than Affelay will. Lets see how many games Affelay gets next season.

I don't but Affelay will not be a first team player for Barcelona, there's no way. And you don't play 40 games there while being a fringe player. Besides, I think Affelay suits them more than Milner because of his pace ans on the ball abilities, he is a completely different type of player which works in his favour.

Copied and pasted from Wikipedia but if you take Phil Neville as the definition of squad player when he was with us look at his appearance stats (In the last column).

Squad players for big clubs easily get around the 40 game mark, John O'Shea often gets around 50.

John O'Shea gets 50 games a season?

Am I travelling back through time?

But isn't the point that Barcelona probably have an entire team of players better then Milner, and that he wouldn't ever get signed, picked or played?

Not many players can walk into Barcelona, and Milner most certainly is not one of them.

Played 54 in 08/09, had a few injuries since then but he's probably be mid 40s if fit all season.

God, that post was from ages ago. I don't think it was a serious suggestion - but I really don't rate Maxwell at all.

Heh, thought it was just now after the game and you were being ironic but still meaning it kind of.

James Milner is mid-table material

Players like James Milner are what I would describe as not value for money. Villa certainly got the better of the deal as this season he has not looked anywhere near the £24m City forked out on him.

I think he's quite average myself. He passed through the graveyard of all promising young talent - St James' Park.

Put 3 or 4 great balls into the box, several leading to goals. His movement into dangerous positions and delivery hurt us today more than anything else, and he worked back well to aid his team. He's not classy though so not too many people will give him credit, same with Micah Richards who was also very impressive

Very impressed with Milner.

Thing is you put him alongside some more silky players like Silva, Toure, Aguero etc. and you will see his value. His workrate and energy allow the others to get on with it.

Problem with England is he doesn't have these type of players around him.

No the problem with England is there are too many players like James Milner being picked to play for the country. He may look good in one or two games when their whole team is playing well but the rest of his performances are mediocre.

end product created by Silva...

His first assist was good endevour but his pass was intended for Silva who let it run to Balotelli. His second, again good running but Silva made it with his turn and reverse pass. (maybe that was actually richards, the match is fussy already, too many goals)

He's doing a job, he offers more than a Barry and can do a job when they line up with the attacking players on display. Put him in alongside Barry/Yaya/De-Jong and he doesnt have the guile to make the difference.

However good he is, he's still not ever in his life walking into Barcelona.

The way City played and more importantly United play, it'd have been shocking if Milner didn't perform well. He's the typical average english player

What an absolutely great comment to make on here. I don't even understand it - there's plenty of examples of 'typical English' players who were/are excellent, effective players, and there's plenty of examples of English players who don't conform to your crude stereotype.

And there are plenty of them who correspond to it too.

What am I holding against him ? His average/ok level of football ? I haven't come in here to argue and you're really boring Baldwin.Talk about someone who wanted "to change"

You're saying he's just the 'typical average English player', as if that's some kind of recognised put down - I'm only pointing out that there's no real value in stereotypes as there's enough English players who don't conform to your stereotype to make it worthless.
