Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

I've heard some atrocious shit from Liverpool fans tonight.

"But Evra is black."

"How come when people say white prick nobody says anything about it."

"If Evra called him a gnasher he wouldn't care because he is a top lad."

"Evra is a cnut."

and lots more brilliant excuses.

Agree - some of the comments over there are shocking. I know that the forum is not representative of all Liverpool fans, but even so.

This is one of the milder comments, which demonstrates how they wrestle with logic in their head until they can twist it to fit their beliefs:

"Basically I'm sure Luis was not trying to be nice, but it's very obvious he was not trying to be racist. Negro, is like calling someone a "person" in spanish. Just more specific."

Also, the number of posters who continue to refer to Evra as a serial accuser is amazing - that factor is even listed as one of the 'fachts' in this case...

And that perception (or misconception) was generated from one of the 'journalists' on Liverpool's official website.

Unbelievable.

Do have a feeling that he'll get off though. Emré was charged and he got let off even though it was obvious he had said something racist.

Anyone have an idea what sort of punishment Suarez might expect if found guilty? Is there any precedent?

The Spain manager (Aragones?) was fined £50,000 for calling Henry a "black shit".

Mijatovic admitted calling Viera a "black piece of shit" (in response to being called a "gypsy shit") but was not punished at all.

Lorenzo Amoruso apologised publically for racially abusing a Nigerian player. No punishment.

The governing bodies of football have never really bothered punishing racism sadly.

If Suarez is found guilty Kenny Dalgish will have to resign. His vile comments towards Evra are a fecking disgrace. Always had some begrudging respect for Kenny but for fecks sake!

just out of interest, what would you say was a fitting punishment for suarez? (if found guilty)

Well if a fan is found to have used a racial slur from the terrace he is banned from football grounds for life. I accept they probably wouldn't be able to do the same with a player, but a ban for a few games is feck all. This is an issue which needs to be taken very seriously, he should be prevented from playing for the rest of the season or something.

RAWK are actually trying to defend this shit. Christ.

top quote from Rio:

Ferdinand slams FIFA

not Suarez or Anton specific really but certainly Blatter specific. Is there anybody who doesn't despise this creep?

I really can't believe that racism is becoming a bigger threat but the high stakes and tensions inherent in the game have recently manifested themselves in a couple of high profile cases. The FA should make a statement with these two issues to make sure it's unlikely to happen again. Whatever their defence the two alleged offenders clearly did enough to offend and I don't think there is much ambiguity but proof is another matter.

Those are my thoughts too. Given the ongoing Terry case as well, I reckon they should make an example of him. Racism has no place in football and if the FA are serious about getting rid of it, tough action needs to be taken so the more racist inclined players think twice about what they say to another player. Given the globalisation of football, I find it unlikely that we'll get rid of racism completely until the poorer countries have become more educated but at least a strong punishment will make them keep their opinions to themselves.

He's been a cnut for years now and should be made an example off.

There's very little to choose between Suarez and that other little shit who played for Liverpool - Diouf.

Too harsh.

Indeed, to the best of my knowledge no player in Enlgland has been found guilty of it.

It is surely an offense than would make it hard to continue playing in the county.

At a guess I would say the maximum fine and a 5 – 10 game ban.

Liverpool would also be expected to take action and punish internally if they are to save face

But I still don’t know how they can prove he is guilty

This is what I'd like to see if he's found guilty:

- He's banned for 10 matches. Racism is a very serious issue and a silly 3-6 match ban isn't going to help. I think the rest of the season is a bit much, so 10 games would be about right.

- Kenny Dalglish issues an apology to Patrice Evra, for questioning Evra's version of events and doing so in public. (Did SAF ever publicly have a go at Suarez over the events? Publicly calling for Suarez to be banned?).

Let's be honest, even if found guilty Liverpool are going to claim he's the victim of a misunderstanding and that he is in no way a racist or intended to cause offence. They've gone too far now and it will strengthen their bond with the player if they back him.

The fact he said it repeatedly in a clear effort to wind Evra up, they must be stupid if they take that stance.

They have to be seen to take action, because the backlash on them could be big.

Backlash from who?

I expect that Dalglish will do what's best for Liverpool from a football point of view, Suarez has been their best player and he knows it.

He's too important a player for them to actively piss off by fining/banning. Liverpool will back him all the way I'm certain, guilty or not. The best thing for Liverpool FC is to do absolutely nothing and keep him as sweet as possible.

/edit: For the record I think the likes of Bannan driving over the limit or Carroll assaulting his gf is worse, but again I highly doubt Villa will sack Bannan or ban him for 10-15 games (and he's a much less important player for them).

From the media, from opposition fans, from foreign LFC fans who aren't mental like the RAWK ones who look at everything through their deluded red tinted spectacles.

Presumably the FA have seen something on the TV footage.

I'd imagine they would need more than just Evra's statement in order to charge him.

From all the newspaper articles, it sounds like Suarez has admitted what he said (which was probably when the PFA dropped out of the mediation process), and is just denying it was a racially motivated remark.

If found guilty Liverpool will have to dish out their own punishments. The media backlash if they do not will force their hand

I will certainly be interesting to see how Dalglish handles it (if found guilty), I fully expect him to publicly back his player to the hilt, however morally wrong that may be.

What would Fergie do?

or what would Jesus do?

now that Suarez has been charged if he is found guilty then they should throw the book at him (min. 6 game ban). time to walk the walk FA, if he's found guilty.

Well he did back Peter Schmeichel over the whole Ian Wright thing, but Schmeichel was never found guilty and it was dropped. If Suarez is found guilty, Liverpool will have to be seen as acting on it.

No they don't. They'll simply stick to the line (if found guilty) that the FA got it wrong and he's a poor, misunderstood lamb. Having said what they've said it's next-to-impossible for them not to back Suarez's version of events, even if the FA decide differently.
