Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace

This game would have made so much more sense had it been on on Tuesday. Or even today. Wenger had a point.

Sir Alex reveals selection plans for Palace - Official Manchester United Website

Morrison - bench at least
Fryers/Da Silvas/Smalling - possible
Pogba - could play centre midfield
Diouf/Macheda - need games

Building a team out of them (I know they probably won't actually play, just for fun):

Amos
Rafael Smalling Fryers Fabio
Pogba Gibson
Diouf Morrison Young
Macheda

I would rather say Fryers, Evans, Smalling and Rafael - Fabio has played a fair bit lately - Evans hasn't

Harsh on Palace to have them play both on wednesday and then 48 hours later against Derby. Wonder if they are gonna rest players in this.

Every team will have to do it at some point, we've done it in the past. Liverpool do it every week according to Kenny.

Not to be pedantic but it always catches my eye when our badge isn't bigger than the opposition badge in the OP.

Rafael Smalling Evans Fabio
............Pogba Park
Morrison..Berbatov...Diouf
..............Macheda

I've missed all but one of our Carling Cup matches this season, annoyingly. So I have told the girlfriend I'm not seeing her tomorrow :D

Looking at the provisional squad lots of young players have been included... Would we possibly see SAF surprise us again by using the twins as wingers like he did against Arsenal, to give all our recognised wide men some rest, and give us room to use Evans as well as some of the other kids at the back? It's a risk, but one he's taken before.

so say something like.
Amos
Thorpe,Smalling,Evans,Fryers
Rafael, Pogba, Morrison, Fabio
Berbatov,Diouf

We've played two matches.

It's easier to write "I've missed Leeds/Aldershot game", Sol.

Shouldn't this be the case for every matchday?

---------------Amos--------------

Rafael----Smalling---Evans----Fabio

Valencia--Fletcher---Pogba----Morrison

--------Berbatov-----Macheda---------

Too much inexperience on one side, switch Pogba and Fletcher and it looks better.

Yes obviously.

Maybe just one of Morrison or Pogba should start but I would personally love to see that exact team.

If only the one starts I would much prefer it to be Morrison, Pogba looks a talented lad don't get me wrong but every time I've seen them on the pitch at the same time Morrison looks a level above.

Wouldn't mind the possibility if we are a couple of goals of taking Berbatov off around the 70min mark and giving Will Keane a run out, Whats peoples opinion on him? I don't watch as much youth and reserve football as a lot on here but do try to keep track

Is Morrison more of an out and out winger? For some reason I'm seeing him as more central for this game. If he starts I'd expect him to be the one pushing on in a midfield three maybe..

Even though he was in the travelling squad for Benfica, I can see him being on the bench for this. If Berbatov is fit I think he'll lead the line with a combination of Valencia, Park, Macheda, or Diouf either side of him (not sure which two it's most likely to be but I'd go with Valencia and Macheda to start). Pogba sitting in front of the back four, with two from Fletcher, Gibson, Park, and Morrison ahead of him.

I'm really looking forward to this game. It'll be good to hopefully see Rafael back, and possibly another chance to see Fryers, Pogba, and Morrison. Potentially even W.Keane and Cole again depending on how things turn out. I'd also like to see Gibson getting some match time as being able to bring him on and rest other midfielders when we're in winning positions will be useful throughout December as we're missing two key players for likely the whole month. There's also Smalling who needs a game and Berbatov and Macheda will be eager to score.

Reckon we'll edge it 2 or 3-1 - unless Vidic is asked to play if Evans doesn't make it, in which case I don't think we'll concede.

Widnes' team is also flexible, as that could easily be a 433 with Morrison in the hole.

Is Morrison more of an out and out winger? For some reason I'm seeing him as more central for this game.

As i've said in a previous post don't watch as much of this level of footy as many but from what I've seen I see him as a central player, but I do believe most of his early games will be from a wide left position before a gradual move into the middle.

Somehow managed to convince myself this was today

As for Morrison, from what I've seen of him he seems to be either a winger, or somebody that plays behind the striker. I don't think I'd want him as part of a central midfield partnership (yet).

FYI for U.S. people on DirecTv - this is on Fox Soccer Plus on the Standard Def channel. Almost missed it because I had SD duplicates in the guide online and it's not listed on the HD channel. Thankfully looked at Liversoccertv.com and found it was showing.

Can see Fergie not risking Berbatov tomorrow. Diouf and Kiko to start upfront, Park and Pogba in central midfield with Young (who need some gametime) and Valencia on the wings. The defence will be pretty obvious with Rio, Vidic and Evra completely rested

I thought so too. I'm pretty sure this topic originally said the game would be played today instead of "wednesday". The topic starter must have changed it.

Our last 2 Carling Cup games was on a Tuesday, incidentally after a Sunday game as well on both occasions iirc. Abit surprised that the 2 big games tonight are held on the same day, would have thought it will attract more viewers having them play on consecutive days

Even though you guys would love to see Morrison and Pogba in central midfield, there is no way in hell they are going to start together especially in central midfield.

Freedman will rotate his squad for Old Trafford test

Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman admits his attempts to steer the club to a first cup semi-final for 10 years have been compromised by fixture congestion.

Tonight’s Carling Cup quarter-final against Manchester United at Old Trafford takes place just 48 hours before Palace entertain Derby County.

Freedman is looking forward to locking managerial horns with Sir Alex Ferguson for the first time, but with his side just two points off the Championship play-off pace, the ex- Scotland forward revealed tonight’s team selection will be heavily influenced by Friday’s fixture against their fellow promotion hopefuls.

“We’ve got to take into account that 48 hours later we are playing Derby, so we’ve got to make sure we are also prepared,” said Freedman, who was a Palace player the last time they reached the last four of this competition back in 2001.

“I will be mixing both teams around to give me the best opportunity to win both games. I’ll pick a team that can hold on for as long as possible against Manchester United and then pick a team that can beat Derby.”

Will he feck. Crystal Palace in Quarter Final of League Cup, playing at Old Trafford and he's claiming that he's going to be using his squad with a game against Derby coming up?

He's just trying to encourage Ferguson to field as many of the youngsters as possible.

I've spent the last few months hyping up Pogba and Morrison to anyone that'll listen (and a few people that wouldn't). They're playing for something much more important than a league cup semi-final place tonight. They're playing for my reputation as a spotter of talent.

Next you'll be telling us to start watching that Ryan Giggs fella from the U39's

:lol::lol: They've been hyped (probably beyond their ability) for the past 2 years!
