Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

well I honestly think a fine and a 5 game ban sends out the wrong idea. Thats almost what you get for raising your arm and bitch slapping a player

If they want to make their case it should be a blanket football ban for a number of months

I suppose if he is guilty the ban should reflect the priorities of the FA. If like Rio missing a drugs test is a 8 month ban? Hitting a fan is a 6 months ban? Then using racist language is a 6 match ban then thats the message the FA are delivering.

Might be a silly question but if Suarez gets a ban for the finger gesture will/can the fa combine a possible ban for the evra incident as well?

According to the FA, missing a drugs test is worse than taking drugs.

The two issues are completely separate. Of course if he gets a ban here, and he gets a ban for the abusive gesture, he will be punished for both, but that's as much as they're linked.

E.g The FA can do a 6+2= 8 match ban instead of 6 match in jan and 2 in feb.

I am pretty sure the finger gesture is the very least of Suarez's and the FA's worries right now.

This case is massive for many reasons. The John Terry one will be even bigger

No I dont think so. Again if he is found guilty it should not be put down as a certain amount of games banned.

It should be a football ban for a number of months like if a player fails a drug test for example

6 game ban and a 75k fine is the latest 'rumour' going around a few scouse boards I'm told

Could be a load of bollocks (probably is) but if true, a decent result?

I saw that on RAWK. If guilty I don't think that ban is consistant to what Rio got for missing a drugs ban (not guilty). Racism is a bigger issue in football than drugs IMO. 6 games wouldn't justify racism.

Personally I suspect the reason this is taking longer than the Conrad Murray trial might be because the FA have no idea how to punish him.

FWIW I wouldn't be surprised to see him found guilty but with the FA saying they accept that no offence was intended or some such shit.

I think they'd like to, but I can't see them doing that as it would undermine the whole "Kick it out" campaign. If he's found guilty, there has to be a punishment dished out and it can't be watered down with all this misinterpretation shite.

No way, if guilty they have to punish him correctly. I'll wait to see a transcript/detail of the available evidence before speculating on what the punishment should be (if guilty)

I personally think he should be banned for the rest of the season. 3-6 months I also would be happy with BUT I'm sure we're looking in the region of 5-10 games which is a joke.

I'm not confident he's guilty but if the FA was to just let this go it would have been dealt with 10 weeks ago within a short time scale. This is a sensitive issue that needs to be dealt with accordingly and it looks like they're taking their time with this one.

Edit: Just realised theres only 5 months of the season left.

That's not just the FA. That's in every sport as far as I know. Also WADA's policy. And it's actually not that unlogical.
The idea is that if you miss a test without a good reason, you're automatically getting the same punishment as if you had taken the worst drug/substance you can take (I'd assume that would be performance enhancing drugs).

I can see the logic in it but I don't see why they don't just give the individual a further 24 hours to report to them for the drugs test under the condition that if they miss the second appointment they'll be banned.

You're not going to clear drugs out within that 24 hours surely?

6 Game Ban and 75k Fine is laughable. If he's guilty, he should be punished severely.

"Kick it Out"?? More like: "give it a little tiny nudge".

6 games is harsh enough.

What do you suggest, the chair?

I think we should be lenient given the "context" so a lethal injection would suffice.

Oh, but I'm not saying Rio or Man Utd aren't hard done by how everything happened. If I'm not mistaking, he even voluntered to do the test just a few hours later, no? There could have been a bit more leniency from the FA in the whole situation. Although if you'd compare to how athletes are treated in some other sports, such as cycling, it's much worse there than in football.

But I was just talking about the punishment itself here, because I often see people compare this case with some other cases where the person has effectively been found positive for drugs. But if that is, let's say, cannabis or even cocaine, I think it's logical that the punishment is less severe.

Concerning the time to clear out drugs/doping, I thought so too at first. But apparently there are performance enhancing drugs that do clear out very rapidly and can become undetectable within 24 hours. But I'd have to look that up again to be sure.

I hear that one stipulation is that Suarez is sent for media and cultural training, hosted by Ron Atkinson
