Newcastle United vs. Manchester United

Massively disappointed with Rooney's response tonight. I hope he picks it up. It's incredibly frustrating to see such a talented player be riddled with inconsistency.

I think that is what United's main problem has been since Ronaldo left. I've been thinking about making a thread about it, I think our problem is we haven't currently got a single player good and consistent enough to build our team around at the moment.

One decent spell but apart from that we have been poor, very poor.

Need a drastic change of character, mentality wise, to beat them tonight.

This is the problem with having to drop Rooney like we did. He always takes weeks to get over a set-back, whether it's an injury, ban or whatever. And he'd just hit one of his runs of form as well.

we were OK for first 20 mins but then look outfought. Very unlike United. SAF needs to switch to 4231.

Not a good half from us, very bad at picking up players in between the lines and aerially we look vulnerable, nothing has really gone right going forward either.

How fecking good are Newcastle? If they can hold onto some of these players and strengthen in the summer they could do really well next season. 100% all over us tonight!

Has Rooney completed a pass yet ? disgraceful performance from the team again. Evra and Valencia were good (again) other than that, well it was awful.

Do we have any players that grow into games? As far as I can remember most of our players who start badly will play like that for the rest of the game. Rooney is a prime example, I cannot see his touch getting better or him improving in the second half.

Our midfield is so deep, being pushed back by their pressing. Far too big a gap from them and our front two. Which is resulting in all these shitty hoofs upfield. Poor poor half of football from our perspective.

Berbatov off and Welbeck on.Having said that he'll probably get one in the second half.

Little point bringing strikers on if you can't get the ball to them. Park off Anderson on.

This was always going to be a very difficult match which is why the shocking performance at the weekend was always going to be costly.

We're creating absolutely nothing so it's hard to see where a goal will come from.

Being outfought for every ball. Passing too laboured. Much too static, not moving in team, in tandem. Moving forward too fast ahead of the ball and end up no passing angles and just hoofing the ball up aimlessly, cue outfought for the ball and losing possession.

did Krul have to make a save in the first half?

A shot from Nani which he punched straight to Rooney who couldn't react quick enough. Can't remember much else.

Bloody clueless in the final third again. Plus, midfield overrun. This is not looking good.

The United I know will definately lose this game judging by how we played first half, can't remember last time we showed up a significantly more urgent team for second half. Newcastle are doing well in defence, really crowding the middle of the pitch right on top of defence.

We've been poor as an attacking unit this half. Had a decent 10 minute spell but other than that it's just been a lot of hit and miss football. Lot of speculative passes and not enough percentage football. Basically, we've had no control of this game. Our football has been the kind where we need a break going our way rather than being that which eventually will reap rewards. Hopefully we find much more control and precision to our game in the second because it doesnt' look like Newcastle are going to roll over.

I agree. Newcastle were always going to be dangerous tonight when we're without Vidic, and you can't really defend against a goal like that (well, Jones could have won the first ball but it was a brilliant finish almost out of nowhere still). Our problem is that we're not doing anything right going forward, and don't look dangerous at all after that 10 minute spell.

I think that is what United's main problem has been since Ronaldo left. I've been thinking about making a thread about it, I think our problem is we haven't currently got a single player good and consistent enough to build our team around at the moment.

Yeah Nani is too much of a winger to step up and do that (i.e. some days his crosses won't come off etc.) but we need someone who can play at a consistently high level in our attack.

Does anyone think we're still going to win this?

Yeah, me.

3-1.

Ths was my FB status before the game.

Predictions for tonight? United to show tremendous bouncebackability and bring the three points home with a less than convincing display yet a comfortable 2 goal win margin. Wishful thinking maybe, but, 'I gotta feeling...'
