Manchester City vs. Manchester United

City deserved a goal. This round should have been replayed. The ref was awful. Congrats lads! Nonetheless we knocked them out. Welcome back Scholesy

I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't smash them, or at least kept the goal difference, after being 3-0 up and a man more on the pitch. Could've done something to their confidence, but instead they fight back to 3-2 and were closer to making it 3-3 in the end than we were at making it 4-2. Instead they can now blame the red card and say they got very close anyway, which could probably boost their confidence.

I realise that I'm probably sounding like a whining cnut, but that's not my intention at all. I'm fecking delighted that we beat the bastards, but it was A LOT closer than it had to be in the second half.

The substitutions from both managers in that second half were terrible, people can talk about ABU's all they want but we were atrocious in that second half and City fought hard, that's just a fact.

What a game, that second penalty would have made a big difference and it was a red.

phew indeed! Lost our shape 2nd half, feck all movement and it cost us a bit. Still knocking City out of the FA Cup on their own soil, job done

Heroes in blue? What the feck, is this ITV-City Network or what?

They outplayed us and nearly beat us with 10 men yet when we had 10 men they destroyed us, think that's what the commentators are getting at. Know its FA cup and knockout but we pissed that away a bit. Its taken a bit of the shine off now.

Still great to knock them out whatever.

Would love to see the possession stats for the last 10 minutes. We were playing keep ball thanks to Scholes in a way we could never have done without him.

Thought Scholes did quite well everything considering, he only misplaced a couple of passes. I reckon he'll probably struggle 11 vs 11 though.

He kept it simple. Didn't try any of his usual stuff. Two misplaced passes.

Should've kept Nani and Welbeck on. They were instrumental in keeping the possession in their half.

lets give Mancini and City credit for the second half performance.

I stood up and clapped when Scholes came on...but he is far away from being able to play in a 11 v 11 match.

main thing is to kick them out of the cup which we have done.

Says it all we went 4-5-1 against a 10 man city.

It was a one-off game. You have to adopt the tactics you think will get you through to the next round. Fergie knows the limitations of his squad and the lads did enough. City are (were) the holders and playing at home. OK, so we skated on thin ice a bit but we did the job.

They were backing City all match, I was just taking a shot at them in return. I'm used to almost no commentators liking United, as I'm sure you are.

I can see why Nani was taken off. I thought there was a chance of him picking up another yellow. But was a bit early to bring Scholes on. I can see why he was given we were in a comfortable position

Rooney once again rubbishing the press speculation.

Bloody football

Both teams will be happy with the game. We beat them at their ground, they had a heroic second half and weren't far from a sensational result.

He played the short passes quite well. But some of his long passes were too short - clear sign that he's way off form imo.

Rooney on Scholes - "It was a bit of a shock, we didn't know until we were in the dressing room"

fecking hell Fergie

Great interview from Rooney there.
Speculation over!

Glad we won. ONly thing is City will now still have momentum as they finished very well.

Oh well, a wins a win

They avoided a slaughter, but they won't take any positives away from this, just less negatives than they might have otherwise. This was their first trophy in a lifetime, and they've already lost it!

What kind of shit is this? When the hell did they outplay us? They got lucky on two occasions. A no-foul on Evra lead to a freekick to bring it back to 3-1, and a defensive error lead to 3-2. Apart from that they only threatened us in the last minute of the game. We were controlling the game in the second half, and were denied a clear penalty at 3-1. Also had more shots on their goal.

Outplayed us my a$$.

Very good game. For a variety of reasons, that has to be up there as one of the very best of the whole season.

City controlled the game early on, however I felt we did well to go and hit them with a goal. We've not been taking our chances enough lately.

That was the first for Rooney, who I thought was brilliant in the first half. He has really reacted to those rumours, and we witnessed one of his very best performances of the season so far from him. Welbeck was also very good.

The red card decision was questionable to say the least. I can understand why the referee gave it. If a player goes in with two feet, he'll naturally send him off, however his studs weren't high, and it was a clean challenge. I wouldn't have even given a free-kick for it.

The referee did have an overall nightmare, though. We should've had another penalty, Giggs should have been booked at the very least, while City could have probably claimed a penalty at the very end of the game as well.

Man City deserve some credit for the way they came out in the second half. I really didn't expect them to take the game to us like they did.

I was very impressed with how Scholes did when he came on. He did all you could really ask him to do. He's still a superb passer of the ball, and his retention of it is also still top notch. He's going to be a key player for us between now and the end of the season, without any doubt.

I wasn't overly impressed with Jones, though. He didn't really seem to fit into our plan at the end to slow down the game and simply avoid losing the ball. Unlike other players, every time he got it he seemed desperate to burst forward and simply go for it, which wasn't helpful.
