I thought he was very good in the 2nd half as he orchestrated things and yes the all important first goal.

He's scored twice against Spurs, Liverpool and City this season and thrice against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Flat-Track bully is our Wayne of course...

I thought he was quietly very very good in the 2nd half yesterday... dropped very very deep and helped our midfield out a lot. Seemingly did a lot of defending in and around our own box and he generally worked hard for the team, and then after the 3rd, his presence their helped us control the game and take any sting that might have been left out of Spurs.

I think Wayne is always a threat, while he was very quiet in the first half he always takes up good position and hence he got the goal.

22 goals and 5 assists in 30 appearances so far this season.

He's actually doing pretty well in terms of spreading his goals a little more too. Fergie always highlights his 'streakiness' and he actually did go through a barren spell this season, but he's still managed to score in 11 different PL games this season - not bad from 21 starts.

Not only is he scoring quite consistantly apart from the minor incident over christmas he hasnt done anything really daft this season. Even when he was dropped for that one game he took his punishment like a man instead of whining and acting like a diva a la Lampard......Im actually starting to warm to the bloke a little :lol:

Starting to remind me of Ronaldo in 2008. He plays, he scores, usually twice.

He's not played well for a few weeks now but is still getting goals.

Could do with him finding his form like he did this time last year.

I have him as having played 31 games, scoring 26 and with 4 assists.

That is goals and assists/games ratio of 30/31

Van Persie is on 39/36

It's been interesting the way he's been playing lately. Usually, when he doesn't play well, he's useless, but he seems to be finding the knack of still popping up with goals when his all-round game isn't at it's best.

Not bad at all from Rooney. It's so nice to see him scoring regularly no matter how well he plays. We still need him to raise his game for us in the big games ahead though.

Good news is that he is just entering his peak years!

Its scary when you consider both him and Hernandez are nowhere near peak form. You can sense them getting there though! Hopefully its timed to perfection.

I think he's capable of doing so. If there's one thing that has really impressed me with Rooney over the past couple of years, it's his ability to play well, or at least score, when we're in the big matches.

This season he's got a hat-trick against Arsenal, he's scored against Tottenham, he scored in both fixtures against Chelsea and he scored two against Liverpool. Last season he scored the goal that won us the title, a goal in the Champions League final and that winner against City. If there's one thing he is, then it's a big game player.

We'll look back on this season and remember as his most consistent. He's not been as brilliant as he was in the second half of last season and the start of this but he's scoring when he's not even at his best. Not to mention doing it when we need him to in the biggest of games.

What was it with Rooney and Foster? Rooney didn't seem to happy with him after the pen.

Another game...another update required of the stats.

This season:
-20 goals in 24 league matches
-26 goals in 31 matches overall

Career Record with United:
-122 goals in 241 league matches
-173 goals in 354 matches overall

Only 6 behind Best and Viollet

His touch was heavy most of the evening, little help from the others around him and closed down too quickly, the only time he wasn't closed down he came up with a bit of magic which ultimately meant nothing in the end.

He was no better on the ball than anyone else in blue.

He hasn't been that great last month or so but he's giving us goals and you can't ask for more. If he get's them because other players are playing better than him or if he's playing good so he makes them for him or others than I'm quite content with him. Consistency is what we need from him and he's bringing that in goal form now.

I don't think Rooney's the sort of player who benefits from better midfielders. In his second striker role, he often drops back to support the midfield, whether it's a top quality midfield or not. He creates his own chances, as well as creating chances for his strike partner.

Berbatov and Hernandez are the type of players who would benefit from an improved midfield, but unless Rooney was constantly playing as a lone striker, then I don't think it would really have any baring on him.

When was the last time he had a genuinely World Class all round performance? I'm curious as to when people think it was.

Can we finally agree that he has no required quality to play as a lone striker?

This is the first time I've seen Rooney scoring consistently when playing "badly". Hopefully it continues, or he get's better.

Can we finally agree that he has no required quality to play as a lone striker?

Is that why he scored 34 goals 2 seasons ago playing as lone striker? Rooney is a star player in our team and is expected to perform but when a team plays football like that no ONE player can win it single handedly against the flow of the game( Ath.Club's game).

So stop trying to judge where a player can and cannot play by a match where the opponents were a footballing masterclass.
