Pogba agent meets Manchester United officials to thrash out deal

http://www.click-manchester.com/spo...ster-united-officials-to-thrash-out-deal.html

According to reports the agent of Manchester United starlet met yesterday with Manchester United representatives to discuss a new contract.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims Mino Raiola was in talks with United in an effort to reach an agreement.

It is understood that a deal with Juventus is already in place and that Pogba has only to confirm he is happy to join the Serie A club.

However, it is believed that the purpose of the meeting yesterday was reach an agreement on the renewal of Pogba’s current United deal.

Speaking about the Frenchman, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We want Pogba to stay because we think he's going to be a fantastic Manchester United player and hopefully that's the case."

Finally!!

Whether we, Manchester United or SAF likes it, agents play a very important role in football today. No point moaning about it, its a fact.

Caftards old enough, remember what it was like when you were young, perhaps straight out of college or university, we had ziltch experience in 'life experience'. Its only natural that you would employ somebody you thought you trusted who HAD YOUR BEST INTERESTS at heart. In those situations though, it has to be win win.

I don't blame Pogba or his agent for playing hardball with us. We have done so enough times with players who no longer fitted what we needed (high profile examples being Beckham and Kenae).

I hope this is a situation of the agent trying to get the best deal for Pogba that he can get from us. In my past, when I had several job offers, I expected my headhunter to do the same.

At some point, if SAF really wants him, he will have to past 10% above the market rate for such a talent. There seems to be alot of brinkmanship going on here, and I'm fine with that ..... if SAF really believes in this kid, then after these 'mind games' I hope we come to a compromises in favor of the player that makes him commit.

If he is THAT GOOD, the medium term benefits outweigh the short term sacrifices the club may have to make.

The circumstances are a bit different here. He is 20 and has not achieved anything. He is a great talent, thats it. Dont think this gives you a reason to play hardball, unlike Keane.

The problem is that plenty of agents don't actually consider what is the best thing for their clients. They look for a quick buck, which in football especially is not always the best thing, even moreso for a player in Pogba's position.

They should be considering long term planning and career development. Do they think his long term future will be better served by a move to Juve? If they genuinely do (although I can't see how) then fair enough, but from what info's been knocking around it's all about the bigger deal right now and the agent getting a big cut.

This kid is piling the pressure on himself. Whether he stays with us or goes to Turin, he's created a massive expectancy level which I doubt he be able to live up to. After all, he's no Keane, Giggs, Scholes or Ronaldo.

He should have renewed by now and got on with it. Less pressure on him that way. Badly advised as well as being plain silly. Rod for his own back. I'd rather see Juve get the shit, not us because it's written all over him.

Ah yes, Kenae, I've such fond memories of Ryo Kenae.

My point being, when a new player arrives on the scene, people are always clamouring to compare him to someone that has previously been good or successful.
Pogba is being compared to Veira, now I think its fair to say 90% of that comparision is based on the fact that he's black, french, tall and a midfielder.
Paul Pogba might be better than Keane, or worse than Kleberson, for now all we know is he's Paul Pogba, and I hope he resigns.

That's quite a lot in common right there, what more do you want?

We've hyped him up again in recent weeks, we're giving him games. I hope the club knows something we don't. If he ends up joining Juve in the summer it's lots of egg on our faces.

Being champions would answer any such embarrassment.

Fergie saying that Pogba can be a 'fantastic Manchester United player' is not going to be forgotten is he ends up a fantastic Juventus player. Yes, we will still be successful but we'll still look a little silly if it turns out we've been had and he's been sitting on his Juve deal for a few months, just waiting for the season to end in order to jump ship.

And his loss it will be then we will move on we missed out on Ronaldino sold Beckham Ronaldo Hughes etc etc Pogba hasn't done anything of note to be worried about losing as he hasn't done anything YET.

Seriously? I thought the Hazard stuff was dead in the water anyway after it turned out we weren't even watching him.

We'd have Carrick, Giggs, Scholes, Anderson, Park, Fletcher, Cleverley, Martinez, Pogba & Hazard as an attacking midfielder.

If we managed to get Hazard & Martinez and keep Pogba, then sadly, I see us letting go Park and Anderson. Fletchers future nobody can predict so I'd expect the club to assume the worst and have quaility cover in place.

Giggs and Sholes next year will be as good as player/coaches. If we released Park and Anderson, enough games for everybody.

Lots of ifs and buts .... am sure SAF has it all worked out though

PS I'd be gutted if we let Park go, one of my fav players.

Did you read what Ferguson actually said? Here are the the two things he is supposed to have said about Pogba in the last couple of days.

Speaking about the Frenchman, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We want Pogba to stay because we think he's going to be a fantastic Manchester United player and hopefully that's the case."

Slightly more from Sir Alex to MUTV on Pogba: "We think Pogba has a great future at this club. I think we're getting closer to that." #mufc

He's talking about what could happen IF Pogba says, and what he would like to happen. If Pogba doesn't sign and jumps ship to Juventus, where's the egg on United or Fergie's face? They wanted a young player to sign, they give him first team chances, offered him terms, and he decided to go elsewhere. His choice, we tried to keep him and he accepted a deal at another club, one that isn't as big as ours, who play in a lesser league.

When we're challenging for and winning titles, and other players are becoming United heroes, the egg will be on his face for not taking the opportunity to do exactly those things with us instead.

not really, we just lost a very talented but yet unproven player. It was sad that Rossi left but we did not suffer and he lost out on medals. Had he styaed, we would not have probably signed Hernandez. His loss, we carried on.

Rossi? Hernandez? There was a bit of a gap between the two, I'm not sure there's any real connection.

My point is Pogba seemed to have been frozen out, with reports he had signed for Juventus. Then there were reports he's actually going to stay, and suddenly we're not only praising him again but giving him matches, which we barely did before. If it turns out in the summer he's he always joining Juventus , yes, we are going to look a little silly. Not because we lost a player, that happens, but because we seemed to put a lot of eggs in that basket, at a time he was (possibly) already lost to us.

What eggs are we putting in baskets? He's getting run outs here and there, in games that are finished as contests. He won't start a single important game for us in the run-in, and will be used at the end of games. Even if he does go elsewhere, and this playing him thing is a failed tactic to try and make him stay, what eggs have been broken putting them all in one basket? Also, don't forget, even if all the eggs are in the one basket, you can't make an omelette without breaking any eggs, so even if they get broke in the one basket we can still make something out of it. As long as the eggs go in the basket and get broke there, and the egg doesn't end up on our faces there will be no problem.

He's let go some absolute howitzers that have been quickly blocked by closing defenders in his short time.

I'm pretty sure one of those is going to go in soon enough.

Fergie knows the boy has agreed, he just doesnt want to leak it to the press yet.

He would not be commenting at all on Pogba if the signs were bad, just like when he was nowhere to be seen.

There is absolutely no way we'll let Anderson go in my opinion. He has too much potential talent just discard him for half what we paid at his age. He'll get another year atleast. People won't like it, but he's got potential beyond just a youngster. We just have to tap it and bring it out.

Almost five years now, and potential is still on the physio table, making it to the pitch on and off.
