Fergie shouldnt be naming potential targets,, simply because the club are unable to compete in bidding auctions with clubs who actually have money to spend on these types of players.

If we can spend £20M on Jones, a player whom we didn't need for the present, and £7.5M on Bebe, a player whom nobody ever needed, we can spend £30M on an exciting young talent who will improve us now.

I try so hard to ignore these threads so im not disapointed when another talent sales by!

This is going to be the big exception!

I predict days of delirium on the Cafe. Who can ever forget the summer of 07, when we landed 4 great players who all turned out to be shit.

(with the exception of Nani) :)

Just one central midfielder! Quite frankly I dont even care if he is shit! Just want to remember what its like to see a new one!

Imo there is only 2 reasons Fergie would name a target:
1 - because a deal is close
2 - Smokescreen.

It probably is not a smokescreen since he went to the match.

Is Hazard not a winger? If he is, I can't understand going for him, especially with the potential fees been linked with him. Is he really better than Nani or Valencia?

Eden Hazard: "Manchester United are a very top team and anyone would listen to them." #MUFC
Eden Hazard: "I'm flattered by the compliment coming from the top manager in world football." #MUFC

these quotes going round.

He is actually a player in the Ronaldinho/David Silva mould. A natural play maker who is comfortable upfront or on the flanks.

Could he play centre midfield then? Is he worth changing the system we play just for him? Would you play a team round him rather than Rooney? Sorry for all the questions, genuinely curios.

I don't mind the questions. He can play center midfield. However I think he is being targeted more as a replacement for what Park and Berbabtov offer us one the left and upfront. Especially for the time we play in Europe and have to use 4-5-1/4-3-3.

I'm still convinced Fergie is looking for a Yaya Toure type for center midfield.

Cheers fellas, I'm off to set up Hazard Caf'. Guaranteed to be this summers Sneijder story...

Don't know, Chief.

I watch a fair bit of La Liga on Sky, and when it was reported that Yaya was leaving Barca, I posted (in the Newbs) that he'd be a great signing. But we never showed any interest.

Maybe Fergie's perception of our needs has changed in the last two years.

I would love it if it happened, but must say I'd be extremely surprised. I expect his transfer to go down to the very end of the transfer window with all the big clubs having pushed the price to ridiculous heights.

If we sign the kid then I believe that we'll revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation similar to the one we played during our last CL win campaign. Rooney will act as a lone striker with the trio Valencia-Hazard-Nani at his back and Carrick/Fletch + Ando/Clev at their back. I wont be surprised if we also add a DM to the team.

As I said in numerous occasions the problem was never the fee but the salary. We hope that this promising kid whose currently playing with Lille will value to chance of win some serious honors and develop as a great player more then money. Other clubs can offer him more dosh then we do.

With our supposed targets, the conclusion will probably be an inverted winger along with a tall compact centre midfielder.

The problem is Madrid, Barcelona and City when it comes to signing any player for us.

We're not Spurs.. The chances aren't that slim!! Normally the players with the correct mentality will sign for us anyway....

and i am not saying they don't sign for other clubs either.

My point being that a lot of players at the moment seem to value sun and money over joining the biggest club in the world.

On that premise we or any other team for that matter wouldn't make enquiries for any young talent. You have to make an offer if you're genuinely interested and not be put off on the basis that City/Barca/Madrid just might outbid you.

Yeah agreed, of course you've to make a move, but doesn't out-bidding us over a player we're interested in sound like something that City would do?

He won't go to Madrid or Barca if he wants to develop his career.

Fabregas isn't guaranteed a spot in Barca's first eleven, nor is last summer's big signing Sanchez (and that's with David Villa sidelined for the season). I don't believe they'll try for him, and if they did he'd be a fool to go there. Kaka can't get into the Madrid team! And they haven't exactly got a great record of developing young talent. It's more likely to be a graveyard than a nursery.

All City can really offer is money. It depends how high a priority he places on that. Again, it's not the place for a young player looking to be the best footballer he can be.

If we're interested, I'd have us as favourites.

Of course but it's whether Mancini feels he needs him.At the same time we shouldn't be intimidated by City's coffers.

i m more convinced than ever that we re not signing him. The real target/s must be someone else.

Same here devil.

My reasons:-

1. there's no other benefit to SAF naming Hazard this early.

2. usually it would just inflate the price for Hazard.

3. Not sure he's United or Premiership grade anyway - not sure he's quick enough, skillful enough for Premiership defenders. To me Ben Arfa is a better player.

4. When's the last time SAF speculated on players before the end of the season while we're still involved in a Championship race? I know we'll want to tie up business before the Euros & The Olympics but still it makes no sense for him to openly declare - first through Meulensteen (usually the soul of discretion) and then himself.

5. We're now MUCH better at transfers and are now used to getting our transfers underneath the radar.

6. It comes at a time when reportedly negotiations with Gaitan's club Benfica are stumbling.

No chance - the person we want is Gaitan - sure of it. Pretty sure Hazard won't be arriving (no inside information either) just my hunch.

I don't believe so. SAF himself said he tried to sign Yaya Toure and the fellow wanted City instead. Especially because of his bro and the extra wage packet.

I'm convinced we didn't go for a Sneijder type or Modric last summer for that reason. I'm also convinced that is why Pogba is being deemed very important to our future plans. SAF I believe is on the look out for a more experienced version as Pogba matures.

He didn't volunteer Hazard's name - he was asked about him.

He was at the match, so there was no denying he was on a scouting mission. The only question is who he was looking at? Fergie wouldn't travel all the way to France for a minor signing, so Hazard is by far the most likely target.

And the idea that a 70 year old would cross the English Channel to throw dust in the eyes of our non-existent competition for the signature of Gaitan is a bit ridiculous.

You have got to be fecking kidding me!!! Have you ever seen Hazard play?

You learn something every day. I never knew Fergie said that. That certainly puts a different complexion on things.

That's mental, you can't have watched a game of his in the last 3 years.

Maybe he just wanted to try to beat Rene to naming one of our transfer targets ?

Both us and City watched Lille within a week or so. And although all the main talk is of course about Hazard, I believe we've both been linked with Digne on a more quiet note. I have a funny feeling the battle wont be to sign Hazard (as I dont expect him to come to United or City) but maybe for the young left back instead.

Who was our competition for Jones? Liverpool and Arsenal, for a local lad it wasnt a hard choice. Bebe was a mystery no doubt we shall find out why he was bought in time. Hazard is a different matter altogether, if other clubs with money who pay bigger wages than us come in then theres not much hope is there?

Yes. And I don't think he's Premiership or at least Man Utd grade. never thought that and people going on about him for years.

Lots of strikers and wingers who looked great in other leagues but didn't make work in the Premiership - Rebrov, Poborsky, Jesper Olsen all looked great in other leagues but didn't make it in PL.

Oh - and just because SAF made the trip doesn't mean we'll sign him - just that we're taking signings very seriously!

Its not just a question of us making a bid of £30m for him. Lille might basically start a bidding war for him this summer which will make it difficult for us to sign him. It might help our cause if we prevent City from winning the title this year.
