Shinji Kagawa

Kagawa's rise has been nothing short of amazing, Ole. He was bought for a ridicolous amount of money (low!) and his reputation quickly enhanced after a superb run of performances before he was injured and when he came back from his foot injury.

The Dortmund fans are happy that he at least signed for United and wish him well. There are, of course, a few supporters, who are mad at him for leaving - the usual niff-naff -, but, overall, they aren't too angry as the already signed his replacement back in January: Marco Reus. Kagawa was a key member of Dortmund's best team ever and scored 21 goals in 49 appearances for BVB, winning everything domestically with the club.

I am really excited about this signing but don't you think that's a little OTT. Better than the team of Sammer, Moller and Ridle who won the European Champions League (and effectively Euro 96 cos the German team that year was built on Dortmund's spine)? Its certainly the best Dortmund team since 1997 and the fact we've snatched a key cog in that machine is a stroke of genius but better than the 97 team..?

I really hate the word "project" in the context of football.

Germans I know refer to it as the Klopp project...He changed everything for the club and well, Dortmund are a special club really - their history inspires many

It brought a tear to my eye

Can we get Gotze too btw? ;)

It's tough to leave their club, that's why there's anger about Kagawa with fans...Not easy for Germans to cling to a foreign player so earnestly

But, yeah,:D they are one of those special clubs with a very passionate fan base - they remind me of a German version of Barcelona

I thought you were talking about the last season. Kagawa was injured the previous one (10/11). In the last season he made 31 league appear.

Bundesliga is an eighteen team league, so he made 31 out of possible 34 league appearances. Nice going!

You're right, I was talking about this season just finished. I added the part about the injury not thinking straight, having heard it on one of the links posted earlier in this thread where the Bundasliga expert said he missed 5 months of the season. I knew he missed the latter half of last season but it didnt click till you mentioned it right here.

12 Million I hear?

Brilliant business and gives us plenty more to spend this summer.

Good news this for a lad with that talent and only 23.

So Dortmund are a team of midget cheats with fantastic technique and which are paid a ridiculous amount of salary? ;)

In that interview of a Japanese reporter on the official website, he says 'he’s not the quickest of players'. Has me a bit worried. Is he slow or just not very quick?

For me, he's already your best passer and most technically decisive player in the squad

I wouldn't argue with that, I can now relax at the thought of not relying on Giggsy almost exclusively to carry these traits into a match.

Still a bit of Summer left, more of the same please SAF!

Tough to argue with this as we rarely pass between the lines, Giggs and Rooney are currently out best and both miss many more than they hit.

Rooney isn't better at any kind of passing than Scholes. The latter just plays extremely deep.

And besides adding something special to the attack your team has been missing, he's going to be pressing high up the pitch and closing down everything...You can potentially play a Bielsa sort of high tempo press

Scholes is the best passer I've seen.

Always reminds me of that line from Seinfeld, 'You're living in the past, man' :p...Scholes was that passer but he can't currently add to the attacking third what Kagawa can today

Truth is I think Scholes still can be useful in a setup with Kagawa playing the hole, Paul can play that deep lying playmaker role he once did alongside Carrick or Fletcher

Bit of a muppetry here but how has Sahin done for Madrid? Would anyone like him here? Kagawa and Sahin must have developed an understanding on the pitch surely?
