Berbatov | Fulham player

Unless we get a £10M+ offer, I'd prefer to keep him. He could prove useful when the fixtures begin to clutter up.

He didn't prove that useful last year. Also a very expensive player to keep simply for very occasional cover. A move would probably be best for everyone involved.

I heard he was to go on the pre season tour, where SAF must surely give him some games to pique the interest of other clubs. He has done that before, and then sold players before the season started, maybe he plans to do the same. I hope so personally, i would rather have someone we are interested in playing, than someone who will seemingly only play as a last resort.

Will it be worth the wages we pay him?

Many are not considering this.We win from Berba's offload the money we receive from his transfer + about 5M in wages.

If we received an offer in region of 6M that means if we sell him United will have 11M pounds more than if he stays. I doubt that we'll get an offer worthy more than 8M.

There was more than enough creativity going forward last season when Berbatov wasn't playing.

If the signing of Kagawa is any indicator of SAF looking for even more movement, speed and incisiveness in attack, then the involvement and effectiveness of Berbatov is placed in even more doubt...his sumptious skills notwithstanding.

 I think you misunderstood me.

You do realise that by selling him we would reduce our wage bill to at least 4.8m?

I just want him to go for the sake of his own career. He has never mouthed off in the press and you have to respect that as a fan. However, a player of his age and ability should be playing week in week out for a good team. I think the signs are good for a move now that Park has gone. Surely Fergie isnt gonna let him rot for another year?

Not at all, sorry if I gave the impression of contradicting you.

I was just confirming that Berbatov is very skillful but just NOT a good fit for United.

Simply put, thoroughly correct. Shame there are morons who thought he wasn't/isn't good enough.

It's difficult sitting on the bench you know... unless you're a shaman. When he was played, though, he was more than good enough, see his goals to games ratio.

EDIT: And I'm sure he would have added a bucketload to our goal difference if he was played, especially against some minnows at OT. Fergie was looking at bigger picture though, which will most likely pay off.

There's a difference between being skillful and being good enough. Berbatov came up short and therefore its hardly incorrect to say he wasn't good enough.

Till 2010/2011 season. His overall contribution has been decent enough, putting his suitability aside.

I would love to skip through Man United 3-2 Liverpool matchday thread to read opinions about him. Since then, he's virtually never let us down, yet for some reasons people turned their backs on him, reversing their views to pre-2010/2011 episode.

He should definitely leave, but he shouldn't expect to go to a big team because I doubt any would use him as a main striker. His level is a team who is challenging for a European place, not a title challenger IMO.
By no means was he a flop though, he had a decent enough first year, second year was pretty bad but in 2010/11, in the first half of the year he was really good. After that he got limited opportunities simply because Hernandez / welbeck were much better fits for our style of play. Berba would always slow down our play when the rest of our attack preferred it to be quick build up. Never suited us but still a good player.

No point in keeping Berbs for cameo appearances. He needs to play regularly to get any kind of form. There are players who would be cheaper that would appear less rusty when coming on after a prolonged absence.

If Rodgers plays the same way as he did at the Swans Berbatov would be ideal for Liverpool! Berbatov is an awesome player just never suited us.

I really hope someone would like to take him, such a waste to see him rotting away. Should have played more last year, since he done well when called upon but didn't. That's in the past now, time for someone to take him off our hands and lower the wage bill.

Would not suit them at all.

You need a hard working striker with good movement, suarez will fit in well.

Berbatov with his limited movement and running behind the defence would be a terrible idea.

He is a second striker who thrives with a partner going in behind, unfortunately rooney was always better than him at it too.

We've treated him like shit, just allow him to start playing first team football somewhere else already.

yeah paying 6 figures a week, asking him to work 15-20 hours a week, at his dream profession, at one of the 5 biggest clubs in the world is treating him really poorly.

what a slave.

:wenger:

everyday he should wake up and ask to suck fergie's wrinkly cock as a thank-you gesture for bringing him here in the first place.

A Rolls Royce parked in the garage...

Or maybe he's a Cadillac. Either way you get my drift.

That bottom point - shouldn't every player in that view?

Football has moved on, Berba hasn't. With Barca, Atletico, SPain and perhaps Real making a success of the high pressure game requiring mobile forwards Berbatov for all his ability doesnt fit the mould.

If thats moving on, then teams can always move back

We had Tevez pressing high up the pitch before any of them and it was good for us, but we still went for something different

It's not just about one guy pressing - its the whole team ethos - press high, compress and close down quick.

Is that something United and Fergie are interested in taking on board?

yes...how terrible the club has been to the poor man. Giving him 100k+ a week...someone call Oxfam and give this man a hug.

Its funny how many people in this thread come across as Berbatov supporters rather than Manchester United supporters.

Berbatov has been treated well, he just didnt take his chances early on when the majority of them were offered to him. Its hardly surprising that after several years we looked to try something else.

I've got no particular sympathy for a man who I think has had a pretty fine time over the last few years, other maybe than missing the 2011 final. But to say he's not taken his chances seems a bit hard considering he was Premier League top scorer in 10-11.

I believe his purpose in the squad in the last season and a half was to be a Rooney option. So when Wayne was having off days we could stick the Bulgarian on alongside Hernandez/Welbeck.

Now that we've got Kagawa...I'm not sure where he'll fit in.

Having been bought for our record ever transfer fee we were expecting him to do that well before his third season. By that time it could be that Sir Alex had already decided to move on.

Or you know, if he had done it from the first season he'd have had what 5 seasons or so doing that here? Which would have been plenty of time and a very nice career at United. Instead it was just 1 season

If Sir Alex felt he'd taken every chance he'd given him, we wouldnt have this situation surely.

Blackburn (or was it Bolton) and Chelsea games in 2010 and the FA Cup semi debacle in 2011 spelled the end for Berbatov.

Rooney was missing and Berbatov was needed to produce the goods. He didn't and Fergie doesn't forget these things.

Shame really.

That and all the other lacklustre performances when he pranced about doing nothing in particular.

Had he scored against Chelsea and we won the League in 2010 for an unprecendented 4th time in a row, Berbatov would have been a hero.
