Southampton vs. Manchester United

Hopefully:

----------DDG
Rafael-Evans-Vidic-Evra
Valencia-Carrick-Cleverley-Nani
----------Kagawa----------
----------RvP-------------

Has there been any word on Evans? He was in contention last week wasnt he? I thought I heard his name being mentioned for the bench.

Having him back would be a monstrous boost, I really dont wanna see Carrick playing at centre half on Sunday. :(

Evans played 90 minutes last night for the reserves, and looked pretty good. I'd be surprised if he doesn't start on Sunday (unless he has a set-back, which with our luck is perfectly possible).

I'd ay Evans will start, see how it goes on.

de Gea

Rafael
Evans/Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Kagawa
Cleverley
Nani

van Persie

Think this should be the team; give Nani another chance. Young again wasn't good enough for me today and Anderson should maybe be brought on in the second half as a pair of fresh legs if necessary. Don't fancy picking a bench as we start to get players back, it must be said.

thats the one.....although i would put ando in front of cleverley.

Hopefuly atleast 1 other CB will be fit and placed alongside Vidič, my bet is Evans, but if not Ferdinand is also a probibility.
so:

_________De Gea________
Rafael__Vidič__Evans__Evra
_____Carrick___Cleverley__
Valencia___Kagawa____Nani
________Van Persie_______

Let's hope Nani starts, although I wouldn't be surprised if he's on the bench and one of Welbeck/Young starts on the left. And another thing I'm looking forward to is seeing more from Cleverley, I seriously hope Ferguson sticks with him for another game, I know Scholesy hasn't gotten much playing time, but I'd rather see Cleverley play, after all he's the one we're going to be counting on for years to come, and the more he plays the better he'll get.

That is pretty much how i would like to see us start. Prefer Anderson to TC away from OT though, for a bit more strength and power in what will probably be a fiercely contested midfield early on.

Scholes could maybe be brought on second half to help us keep the ball, but other than that in my view he doesn't have the pace or energy away from OT, to warrant a start.

It's 50/50 between him and Anderson for a start i would imagine, so the question is 'do you feel lucky, punk'? :)

Yeah I thought it is too. Very critical decision for me this week. Have to get rid of a chelski player and I reckon either us or Spurs are the banker of the weekend. But its so friggin difficult to know who fergie is going to pick in midfield.

You're working to a budget? Maybe Noble at West Ham (set piece taker) or Dyer at Swansea assuming they're similar price range

Yip am working to a budget. Things have gone pretty pretty well for me so far.
I'm going to avoid Swansea players this weekend - even though the obvious signing for me is Michu. I've gone for Lennon - hoping he will get a few assists v Norwich.

How about Charlie Adam, just gone to Stoke i think. Will probably take corners, free kicks and maybe score a couple too. Might be worth a look!

Looks good. Hopefully with Nani cutting in we'll see Van Persie involved a bit more in the build-up. There's more to his game than just finishing, so we need to make the most of it.

I'm excited to see what a midfield of Carrick and Cleverly can accomplish.

Would like to see a Carrick and Anderson partnership in the middle. Offers creativity and defensive solidity, but Cleverley could start too. Maybe start all three with Kagawa on the left?

No. Keep Kagawa in his best position and don't play Carrick with Ando. Many people have noticed that Ando's best performances come with a more dynamic midfielder alongside him - Carrick isn't one. It should be Carrick-Cleverley or Ando-Cleverley.

This could be a tricky one I reckon, away at Southampton has potential banana skin written all over it. I hate these games, there's nothing really gained from winning but it's disastrous to lose.

Agree with the teams mentioned above - DDG, Rafael, Evans, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Cleverley, Kagawa, Nani, RVP

An early goal and control of the ball and I'm happy. A no nonsense defensive performance and a clean sheet would be perfect too.

It only has potential banana skin written all over it based on the Everton performance. Qs should be stamping our authority over games like these.

Agree to an extent, I just reckon that Southampton will get a result at home against one of the big teams this season, just hoping it's not us.

we need to win these kind of games..last season we won 13 times away from home, which was a great improvement from the season when we won our 19th tittle(we won only 5 away games then). and even that was not enough to win us the tittle. we cannot afford to drop cheap points anymore. city are getting better, and chelsea started the season so well. i know it is still early in the season but 3 points is a must tomorrow.

Didn't Wigan win here last week? We really should be winning this match.

Anyway Fergie said Nani will be in the squad so hopefully he starts in place of the injured Young.

Nani really ought to start, I really want to see how him and Valencia hook up with RvP from the flanks.

Nani and Kagawa had looked good together in pre season so hopefully they play well together. Valencia is good but he'll just get the ball, beat his man and pump the ball into the box whereas Nani could offer us something different from the other flank. Hopefully we get a lot of good interplay with him, Cleverley and Kagawa.

Is Jones injured or just way out of contention, out of interest?

I don't understand how could anyone self-conscious leave Valencia (our best winger for a year or so) out for any important game (if fit) and I couldn't be arsed to put this '' ohh I just did. The right flank is his, as simple as that.

Pretty please with cherries on top!

It seems like the sort of fixture where SAF might opt for Scholes' experience over Cleverley. It'd be an unpopular selection on here but all will be forgiven when he pops up with >95% pass completion and a few delightful and incisive passes.

He's played for us about 700 times, yet people are omitting him after Everton game (in which he wasn't even one of the worst!). What can you do about it? only not giving a shit I guess.

Doesn't mean he is the best midfielder at the club anymore though. He shouldn't get picked on sentiment. He may have a brilliant pass completion rate but he is nowhere near enough as mobile as he used to be and I think today we need a very mobile midfield. Llanna (spelling!) is a tricky customer and the type that could see Scholesy making a few rash challenges.

If things are going well, there are others who might do more running and add a bit more going forward... but his experience in invaluable.

I'd want one of Scholes or Carrick in midfield whenever possible.

Jones is back in training but not ready for first-team football - same goes for Ferdinand. Ferguson said that with Evans back they could move Carrick back into midfield - so I expect Evans to play

I wouldnt be surprised if Ferguson starts with Carrick and Scholes today

Was hoping we'd start with Carrick and Scholes with Nani and Valencia out wide but think we'll probably start with Carrick Scholes Cleverley and Nani on the bench

Scholesy didn't play last week. I reckon he is in for a start with Cleverley getting a rest today.
