Southampton vs. Manchester United

Daniel Taylor ‏@DTguardian

Speaking of erratic goalkeepers, interesting that #MUFC have left out De Gea after his mess-up with Vidic last week

:boring:

SAF not being very media savvy on this decision, if he wanted to give Lindegaard a game he could have waited until the next game.

One game. Welbeck was crap in that game too.

Welbeck was more of a threat than Nani in that game.

And as has been pointed out, you don't know what's happening in training. Maybe Welbeck has been far more impressive.

It's hardly incredulous.

DDG was trusted with Stoke away last season and passed that test. If we're going to drop him every time we come up against a big team then he's never going to learn and develop his game.

No - but on the back of that howler against Fulham....well! And Stoke are small compared to Southampton. Their front 3 (I guess)

Lampbert is 6 ft 2
Rodriguez is 6 ft 2
Guly is 6 ft 3

In addition their central defenders are 6 ft 4 and 6 ft 2

The persistance with playing Welbeck on the wing is rather strange. He's not exactly great there. But well let's wait and see.

It's not really because he belongs there though. It's case of Van Persie is 1st choice striker, Kagawa is the number 10, so he either plays on the left or not at all. I'd wager he's starting on the left, and will continue to, whilst Nani has an unsigned contract and Rooney is injured.

If the own goal is the reason, Vidic should be dropped as well

If a central 3 of carrick clev and kagawa if we line us like that, can't dominate Southamptons midfield than we have big issues in general. We shouldn't need to play 3 midfielders and an attacking mid. Anyway given we've dominated possession against everton and fulham without carrick in the middle I don't anticipate this will be an issue.

What you should anticipate as an issue is despite dominating possession in both those games, we have conceded more shots on target than our opponents have, despite them enjoying far less of the ball. Carrick wil do a defensive job, but i don't really see a lot of defensive organisation or communication for when the opponents have it.

I have no doubt Kagawa, TC and Carrick will have plenty of possession, but will they be good enough defensively to stop Saints creating chances when they have the ball?

We will see.

If it is rotation with the goalie I don't see a big problem, only issue is you get speculation like that from the guardian that just pressure on de gea, though doubt he reads the papers.

Welbeck has been playing on the left recently and I dont expect any different tofay. Kagawa has to play through the middle. not sure why people are complaining, nani is out of form and de gea is being protected in a tough away game.

What sort of a message does it send to him? To the opponents next time he starts?

Everton, Fellaini is taller than all of them and he was brilliant.

Who bloody cares how tall a few players are. We have our first choice centre back pairing in the side today, and we are rotating keepers. Just alot of shite if you ask me.

Yeah that's where carrick in midfield and a proper defence can help. Like I said no reason we should need such a drastic change to go with 3 centre mids and an attacking mid. Plus why waste kagawa in a wide role for ando? Against a top top team maybe but there's respecting your opponent and then being too cautious.

I'd rather see Nani than Welbeck, however I do think that Welbeck has the tools to become a dangerous LWF if we are to switch to a 4231 more regularly. It could work well with Evra giving width and Kagawa playing deeper than Rooney would do so behind RVP.

What odds on a Welbeck header from a Valencia cross?

And he's actually very well suited to play there; it's the team that shouldn't insist on the "get the ball wide, swing a cross in" tactic all the time. A wide player doesn't have to be a touchline-hugging winger.

Why De Gea is not starting. fecking hell, I thought that we will not repeat last season mistakes.

Christ, might as well shut down the forum then, seeing as nobody knows what's happening behind doors regarding anything, what's the point?

Nani is our best/second best winger, and we're using a striker there instead, unless he's injured or carrying something, it's a senseless decision, I've rarely, if ever seen Welbeck have a good game on the wings, maybe that will change today.

Why is everyone having a break down over DDG not starting?

When did Lindegaard cost us points?

You misunderstood me. The rotation of goalkeepers in the league wasn't a good thing last year and didn't helped De Gea's confidence. And then he has dropped again. I don't know if that is because of his mistake last game but De Gea should start every game in the league.

Also Nani not starting and Ando not even in bench (after his good game when he played well) is ridiculous.
