So is there any word either way now that the transfer window has closed?

am I correct saying that had Nani gone today, he wouldn't have been eligible for Euro play for them?

Why would he be ineligible, he hasn't played for us in Europe yet, we haven't played in Europe at all yet.

I thought clubs had to declare the 25 Euro rosters earlier this week... when United did... no?

I don't know if that list is that definitive, but there was a new rule a few years back allowing a team to register an additional player that comes in as a transfer after the registration deadline, so if you're right I believe Zenit could have used that rule.

I'd be proper pissed at Fergie if he let Nani go without any chance at a replacement. Nani is frustrating but has been an integral piece of our squad the last two seasons. Overpay for him in Jan please when we can buy Kagawa's teammate Honda.

Fergie wants to get rid. He wanted Lucas and Hazard, no way could we fit in another one of these without someone leaving.

This doesn't make any sense. Why would we allow him to negotiate with them full stop to begin with? Secondly why would we allow this when our transfer window has closed?

Absolutely agree. This 'wing forward' talk is just misguided, meaningless tactical mumbo jumbo.

 So the only difference between a touchline winger and a wide forward is tactics? So to get my head around it, Beckham would be just as effective as a wide forward in a 4-3-3, and Pedro would be equally at home on the touchline in a 4-4-2? Due to the only differences between thei contribution being tactical?

For me there are clear differences between a Suarez or a Nani, compared to a Figo or Beckham. Nothing to do with tactics, their strengths lie in different areas imo.

Don't United have to allow this first? So basically it's United that betrayed you.

I'm happy Nani priced himself out of a move to Zenit. Hopefully he will ask reasonable wages when negotiating with United.

Apparently his agent has been asking for 130k a week!!! Quite steep for someone who doesn't regularly hold down a spot in the first 11.

I'd love for him to stay, but I think there might be some truth in us letting Nani talk to Zenit. It might be a way of saying to him that we want to keep you but we don't need you if you're going to ask for astronomical wages.

No chance we'd have to let him go without a replacement. Zenit are talking shit.

I'd love to know the fee we accepted.

There is about a 0.1% chance we accepted any fee, it's much more like they just asked his agent how much he'd want to play in Russia and they were quoted some insane figure. I mean, why else would anyone go and play there?

I still see absolutely no reason to believe we've even once countenanced selling him, although we presumably will in the summer if he doesn't sign a new contract at some point this season.

This news story is probably bullshit.

Yet such stories, people here believe so easily.

Its possible. But would you accept the relationship with Nani and the club is not perfect?

I certainly accept that.

But even Rio, Rooney have done much worse.

People even said Welbeck would leave.

I won't make a judgment unless I hear from someone official.

Well according to Rio he missed training. So maybe he was negotiating. As long as he's replaced with a player not Neymar we will move on. Just means more tedious developing though.

I reckon he's off in January, unless he signs a new deal. I was shocked at Zenit's quotes - they could of course be talking bullshit, but to say the move collapsed due to Nani's wage demands is pretty brave to say.

Rio and Rooney both behaved far worse than Nani. But both are English (That makes a difference) and both resolved their issues quite fast.

Nani's contract has dragged on far too long, and next summer he can properly play hard ball.

utter shite all this, if fergie had wanted rid of him, he'd be gone.

Exactly.

And lets be honest, the way the club does things we'd have sold him before we even went for Lucas or Hazard or whoever.

We sell players and then we look to replace them (Ronaldo, Beckham, etc) not the other way around.

What?
Where has Rio said this?

I got slated for suggesting Nani might be on his way a couple of months back. i just couldn't understand why we were going for very similar players to him, if he was going to stay.

It stands to reason that one of Valencia, Young or Nani would have been surplus to requirements had we gotten either Lucas or Hazard. Nani was the only one who was in contract talks at the time.

Still hope he doesn't leave personally, but it doesn't look that promising at this point.

Perhaps his agent threw a figure out there to see if he got a bite, so they could use it in negotiations with United. It's pretty obvious that a players agent would use offers from other clubs as a bargaining tool when looking for new contracts at their current club. A fee didn't have to be agreed, United probably haven't given anyone permission to talk to him, but I wouldn't be surprised if Zenit were made aware of a particular figure, so Nani and his advisors could go back to United with it, if it was a figure that Zenit were willing to pay.

Perhaps them saying this figure was too high will convince him the grass isn't greener. Or that he'd be better off sticking with his own cow rather than wanting the one in the other field.

Where? Quote me.

Go search it yourself man. Ain't got time for that. I think he said it in relation to some look a like porn flick. Two guys banging a girl one looks like Nani and other like Andy Cole. Rio then mentions maybe thats why Nani didn't make training today.
