Berbatov | Fulham player

No it doesn't. His record clearly showed that he was much more prolific against the lesser teams than the big teams, in that was the Berbatov dilemma, he was uncomfortable with the pressure at the true elite level.

He is a great player and personally I feel him to be a tier up from Fulham, say a Spurs or a Valencia in Spain, however, I do not feel that he is top tier, technically certainly but psychologically - definitely not.

This is true...and his failure in the CL attests to that, but in the league he was quite often dropped for the big matches, as we went with one up top and a 5 man midfield, with Rooney being the lone striker.

Not defending him...just a bit of context

Some of the stuff mentioned is a bit unfair. Berbatov did very well in a setup that didn't really suit him whilst playing second fiddle to Rooney.

Pleased for him. Always been a classy player, just not suited united style of play

When he played off the striker he set up goals but didnt score many. When he played leading the line he scored plenty of goals but didnt set up any. And every single season he didnt get a look in when it came to the serious matches at the end of the season where trophies are won and lost, by the man who saw fit to make him our record signing and compare him to Cantona.

Its not that he didnt suit our style, but despite trying to use him in multiple ways something was lost from his game no matter where or how we used him and the man who had more belief in him than anyone else lost faith with him because he just wasnt up for it like other players when it came to big matches. Then theres the champions league...

Dont think anyone will be surprised to see him score a decent amount of goals against the average and lower teams in the league
Wouldn't be surprised to see him score against the "top" teams either. (Liverpool weren't too bad when he bagged a hat trick for us against them). Wouldn't be surprised to see him up here challenging for leading PL goalscore either.

Berbatov needs to feel the manager has confidence in him and trusts him. Jol has faith in him and consequently it will show in his performances.

Sometimes our management fail to get the best out of players, which is a shame.

Rooney in his new book mentions that some players couldn't handle Fergie's beratings at half time and then their heads would drop for the second half. Berbatov could be one of them, it wouldn't surprise me.
Maybe...beratings aren't always the best way to treat players you want to perform well.

pleased to see him scoring.

just do not score against us.

He's one of our agents now. Expect goals against Liverpool, City and Chelsea and an anonymous performance against us, if he is fit to play, that is.

Berbatov is just one in a long line of players Fergie bought to intentionally change the way they played hoping they'd fit in his system. Fergie has an obsession with finding quality players and playing them out of their natural position. Sometimes this works absolute wonders; other times it's met with dreadful consequences. Berbatov wasn't a flop to me. He just couldn't play in the system Fergie wanted him to play in. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

Fergie doesn't care about systems. He likes talented players, and worries about how to accommodate them later. But sometimes it just does not work out.

Just saw his first goal for Fulham. Incredible goal (and a well-taken penalty for his 2nd.) I think we can all agree that it didn't work out for him at United, but I think we can also all agree that it's nice to see him playing again. The guy's pure class.

Totally. Had nothing to do with Berbatov himself. He's not responsible for the way he played here at all.

It was a top class finish. Without taking anything away from the strike, I'd be going nuts if someone was given that kind of time and space against us.

I just want to stick my 2 cents in here. It was great to see him play so well, and great to see Fulham taking to him immediately. I can see them building the side around him for a few years.

I suggest some people started supporting Fulham. and when Berba leaves they convert tob be fans of another club. repeat until he retires.

Stop being a fecking idiot in this thread.

Take some chill pills man.

This is normal stuff here. Usually fans get attached to former players but after a while, it'll go away. There are many examples, from Ronaldo to Alan Smith.

Nah, just wait till the weekend when Berbatov scores.

There will be plenty of "God, what a great player, wasted at Fulham, should've played more at United" posts.

So?

It happens when Ronaldo scores. Our fans still chant about Ronaldo FFS. Does that mean all those supporters of Real Madrid or maybe does that mean they like a player. It's not even that hard to comprehend.

Seeing Berba banging them in for Fulham is something i'll always be happy to see, unless it's against us of course. He's always been quality and it's a pity he didn't get to show that more last year.

Have a read of the post you've replied to here again.

Ronaldo "should have played more" at United

My point is that it's okay to like ex players of United. Have a read to whole of the discussion.

I can see some are really struggling to let it go. Paradoxically, his fanboys are behaving way more sensibly. And that point about becoming fans of his current club :wenger:

I think its a great thing that players here on the fringes know (or hope) that even after they move on they will get a great reception at OT and the fans will continue to have a place for them. Shows a great spirit about the club TBH and its OK so long as it doesn't get to the point where one player is worth more than the club ala Suarez at Liverpool.

Unless you're an Arsenal fan. They seem to dislike ex-players more than any fans I know.

That's because recently most of their players have left on their accord despite still being needed at club and against Wenger's wishes. At our club, usually players are sold when they're surplus to needs, they're obvious exceptions though.

Why can't he just be appreciated as a fantastically talented player? Regardless of everyone's beliefs about whether he was a success or failure at United. He proved it at Tottenham, at United and looks like doing the same at Fulham. Good for him.

apart from Tevez is there any other ex-United player seriously despised by the fans? because I strugle to think of one.
