Liverpool vs. Manchester United

Well what can I say, this game has fallen on my birthday this year...if we lose it's automatically the worst birthday EVER.

Not at all confident though:
- their cup final
- we never seem to raise our game and play as a team at Anfield
- emotional 96 stuff recently going on, trust it to be us they play next. There's always something going on for them when they play us, like that protest thing the other year.

But we have RvP, and he always scores against them, right?

Dippers will cup final this as usual, especially with the added emotional aspects.

Actually, that could go against them like what happened to us against City. Expecting a very different atmosphere.

Looking at the Liverpool v Arsenal game, I can't quite work out why Liverpool didn't get anything from that game. Liverpool had more possession, 8 more corners and more shots on goal. However, it seems like they're simply not clinical (as witnessed against Sunderland when they had 23 shots and only 1 goal.

Liverpool so far have scored 3 goals and conceded 8. They've only once had the lower Possession stat and that was against City with a 49/51 divide. So we know that they'll probably be decent on the ball in the middle of the park. Think we'll get at them on the counter.

It's not a game designed for Giggs/Scholes imo, Liverpool will close our midfielders down and we'll be chasing the ball a fair bit. I can't predict who we'll play though, would be a bit of a kick in the teeth for Buttner if he doesn't start after that fantastic debut.

Ive a feeling we will get hammered. I struggle to remember when the last time was when we actually played well at Anfield.
They raise their game for us and with the recent JTF96 stuff they will be buzzing.

OR

they will bottle it the way we did on the Munich Anniversary at home to City and play shite and lose.

We simply have to put bodies in the middle, leave rooney on the bench and let RVP and Kagawa do their stuff. Dont know who i'd prefer between Valencia or Nani...Maybe Valenica as he is tougher than Nani and a more direct approach out wide on Sunday might be whats needed. I hope to feck we can win this one but am never confident playing at Anfield Lately.

Also what I find interesting is that Liverpool have had 75 shots only 15 have been on target! Out of those 15 shots, only 6 players have managed to get a shot on target for Liverpool. That's a Shot to Shot on Goal ratio of 5!

Compare that to United... we've had 74 shots (1 less than Liverpool) but managed to get 23 on target which leaves us on a Shot to Shot on Goal ratio of 3.2 (Arsenal on 3.9, Chelsea on 2.7 and City on 2.6). However of those 23 shots on goal, 11 players have contributed. So we have a much wider pool of players than Liverpool.

What does this mean? Well it's pretty simple. Suarez has a third of the shots on goal for Liverpool on 5 and has 23 shots. Surprisingly Shelvey comes next with 4 shots on goal in 9 shots (impressive ratio of 2.3). Then comes Borini and Skrtel on 2 shots on goal a piece. What this tells us is that Suarez and Shelvey are the players we need to be watching around our box as they're the players most likely to get it on target. Gerrard hasn't managed 1 shot on target yet and he's had 10 shots, which is identical stats to our very own Danny Welbeck.

The worse they get the more I fear them

So true

There aren't half some odd lineups being suggested, so I'll go with the obvious one, although I'm not that sure between Cleverley & Anderson, probably Cleverley.

RvP is ready to start scoring again & Kagawa will assist him.

Reality is that the Scouse will raise their game & it'll all end in tears.

The scouse don't need to raise their game. They've played some decent stuff and the football and chance. Reaction has been good. Conversion of those chances has been the problem.

I wouldn't want Kagawa starting if i'm honest. I think he'll be given the rough treatment and he'll end up being invisible throughout much of the game.

Welbeck will give their back 4 problems with his pace and strength.

Our recent encounters over ther showed that Kagawa's exactly the sort of player we need there. We've been fine at passing the ball across the midfield but the gap between them and striker, usually lone one, has been too big. Kagawa is one of the best players in Europe at minimalizing that gap. His passing in tight spaces is very good as well, and that's important when you play at Anfield.

Set pieces will be vital. In the last two seasons in the league we have given them 5 goals from set pieces/pens. They have only scored 2 goals against us from play and one was a absolute gift from Nani.

We need to be good on corners and not give away freekicks in range for Steve Me/Suarez. If we do that I think we will win.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. All the emotion and build up about Munich all week totally took our minds of the game and City beat us what, 2-0 under Sven. Hoping the same happens to Liverpool. They'll still be geared up for the game as always but under Rodgers and his mini Barca passing ways hopefully they don't press us like they did under Rafa or Kenny even. Its the pressing that kills us and forces us long, Liverpool have done it best in the last few years.

Carrick, Cleverley and Kagawa in midfield, Vali and Nani with Van Persie up top. Lindegaard in goal just so they don't try all the tactics (even if they have no Carroll this time). We are due a win there and normally I'd take a draw due to how we bottle it 99% of the time and Anfield, I just think under their new manager we can take them. We are way better than them even now with early season rustyness, we are just play the crowd and the occasion of our biggest game.

Damn. There's not a single regular first-team player in Liverpool's line-up for tonight's game.

I hope De Gea starts

But I'll be surprised if he does, they gave him a bit of a going over on setpieces at the game at Anfield last season. I expect Lindegaard to come back in. I really dislike this GK rotation that seems to be going on

De Gea had done more than enough last season to continue where he left off with an extended run, handing Lindegaard the odd game (Carling Cup, some CL games etc)

Do wonder if Cleverley will come in as well

They've essentially turned into Swansea of last season.

Liverpool will have the ball more than we will, and will press like maniacs when they lose it. Like Barca-lite.

But, they don't have the players that Barca use to turn possession into goals. So their matches this season have tended to be stale, slow and somewhat tedious, imo. I don't think that will happen against us, just because of the energy the fixture always brings.

I think our best chance to win is to set up to play on the break. Which means a pacey striker (sorry Robin) and smart, pacey wingers (Nani/Valencia) supported by an energetic, defensive midfield.

-------------Lindegaard--------------
--Rafa----Rio------Vida-----Evra-----
---------Carrick---Cleverley----------
---------------Ando-----------------
---Valencia-----------------Nani-----
--------------Welbz-----------------

We need pace in midfield and on the wings to hit Liverpool on the counter when inevitably they give the ball away after pass pass pass.

Like Arsenal did to them with Diaby.

Hence I'd start with either Ando or Cleverley alongside Carrick.

It'll be the same midfield/attack as the Galatasaray match except Cleverley in for Scholes. Hopefully we're in a position to bring Scholes on to help see it out rather than make the difference.

What I'd like too see...

What in gods name did you just subject me to? Jesus christ that is such a poorly written, woefully structured collection of words. I made absolutely no sense of what they were trying to say.

Onto the team.

I think Danny is our best lone striker and works the hardest. I think it's safer to rest RvP because he'll get the shit kicked out of him by the amateurs at Anfield. Giggs will definitely start but I fecking hope not in central midfield.

Bring on Scholes and RvP mid way through the second half and change the game.

Keep the faith

I remember the last time we were involved in a 'highly emotional' match. Just hope the result is not identical/similar.
