Liverpool vs. Manchester United

I expect something like -

DDG (Could just as easily be Lindergaard though)

Rafael
Evans
Vidic
Evra

Anderson
Cleverley
Carrick

Valencia
Van Persie
Kagawa

Subs:
Lindergaard
Ferdinand
Buttner
Scholes
Giggs
Chicharito
Welbeck

It still hasn't properly sunk in that van Persie plays for us, not sure it ever will.

It'll be a tough game today, they will raise their game intensity to a very high level and we tend to struggle when teams do that at the best of times. We just HAVE to play 3 in midfield, anything else and we will be over run.

I'm hoping Rodgers makes the mistake the managers before him didn't and actually sets up to play football against us. It won't even be close if they do. I get the feeling he has too much pride as a manager to play anti-football.

I don't expect too much, it's better to be surprised.

But the closer the kick-off is, the more excited I am. Anfield, that's why.

You don't think Nani will even make the bench??

Agree - and I know that Liverpool tend to up their game against us and we struggle.

However it will be interesting to see what effect the occasion itself has. It could motivate them even more, or it could have an adverse effect.

I think we tend to struggle in games where there is a significant external factor, if that makes sense. I am specifically thinking of the Munich 50th anniversary game against City. We were so far from our usual selves we were hardly noticeable. Liverpool may be affected by today in a similar way.

In one sense, I don't care how they play - I just hope we put in a performance we can be proud of for once.

Also, I sincerely hope that today passes without any additional incitement from either set of fans. Both clubs have a minority of fans who act like idiots, and unfortunately I think it will not take very much for one set to trigger the other.

If we could have our fans singing songs purely about our team and the score, then that would reflect very well on our club.

TBH Ferguson dropped him after a shocking performance against Everton and I thought he was shocking (even barring the penalty) on Wednesday. That said you could quite easily replace Buttner with him.

I don't think he will start, I see Tony V, RVP and Kagawa, with Kagawa coming in from the left - not where he's at his best but how I think it'll go. Looking at the game on Wednesday, Carrick and Schole became nullified when the Turks broke and Kagawa, having supported the attack struggled to get back leaving us very open. Think we need Anderson and Clevs in there to stop that threat and Valencia and Kagawa supporting RVP up front.

Having said all that maybe I should have said its what I hope for rather than expect.

Buttner is someone I'd like to be given a go, but don't expect it.
Nani is also someone I'd like to see in the starting XI, but not entirely sure that'll be the case.

On the other hand I wouldn't want us to start either Scholes or Giggs. Scholes played the previous 2 games and needs a rest, while Giggs should mostly be used as a substitute, and I wouldn't start him at Anfield.

I think De Gea should be in goal, since I'm more confident in him keeping up in this game if need be than Lindegaard, although I wouldn't say I'd exactly be worried with him in goal either, just a preference, and I generaly feel that De Gea is/should be our #1 choice, don't see anything particularly good in rotating your keepers that often.

That being said I expect a win. The line has to be drawn somewhere, and I think 4 years without a win @ Anfield is more than enough. I know they always raise their game against us, and today will be even more "emotional" due to the Hillsborough disaster information leak, but I feel that this is the perfect moment to strike.
While they've got 2 points out of 4 we have 9, we won 4 games in a row and also managed to keep a clean sheet the last 2 games, and I for one can definitely notice the gradual improvement in our play and just basicaly in our players' understandings of one another. Keep in mind we've got quite a few new faces that have just begun their carreers here and still haven't gotten completely used to it.

If we can just keep doing what we've been doing we should be more than capable of winning this, there's no reason why we should be dreading this like Liverpool's victory is already decided. I'm not saying it'll be a stroll in the park, but I can't remember the last time the gap in quality in our teams was so big, and a win is needed to get back to 2nd place a point behind Chelsea.

where is Nani !!!! I can understand him starting on the bench but not even a sub

I think DDG should the No1 choice keeper, I don't agree with chopping and changing the keeper, does no good for his confidence.

Is it just me who thought Nani was dreadful the other night and all her does is spend games at Anfield rolling around the floor. He's never has a good game at Anfield.

----------------------DDG-----------------------

--Rafael-------Rio------Vidic---------Buttner---

-------------Carrick-------Cleverly----------------

---Valencia--------Kagawa-------------Nani------

--------------------RVP---------------------------

Why no Rio Art?

I'd play the same front 6 but with both Rio and Evra starting.

I thought he was one of our best players - he could have ended the game with 3 or 4 assists. As for the penalty - if players were dropped for taking a bad penalty, we wouldn't have much of a team left!

I seriously hope he plays Buttner instead of Evra. Not a slight on Pat but if things go the right way for us Buttner will have a serious boost in his confidence.

It never stopped us from playing Rooney at anfield. None of our players seem to have a good game there, and I don't expect it to change today.

Naah, things might get crazy there and Buttsex already has the tendency of going in hard. I'd rather we started with Evra.

 at all these people who hate Nani so much that they would rather play people out of position than put him in their starting 11.

Moi? I've not put anyone out of position - If you're referring to Kagawa he's played the role coming in from the left quite a bit for Dortmund/Japan...it's not like I'm sticking Welbeck out there.

Line up I would like to see:

De Gea

Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra

Cleverley - Carrick - Anderson
Nani ------------------- (Nani)
Kagawa

RVP

Line up I expect to see:

De Gea

Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra

Valencia - Scholes - Carrick - Giggs

RVP - Welbeck

I hate days like this, so excited in the morning, then 90 mins of nerves, followed by the week being ruined when we feck it up :(

Not directly comparing or something but we did kind of a similar thing with Scholesy at Wembley CL final. When he came on we saw more of the ball. My point is people on here didnt want him played because of his brashness.

Rooney's had a few decent games at Anfield including a game where he score twice if I remember rightly. All Nani does is roll around looking for decisions - not gonna get it at Anfield (even when we should like the Carragher tackle a few years back) Nani's reputation goes before him in a game like this.

Rooney's scored once at Anfield, in his first season here, ever since he's been beyond useless there. Fergie didn't even start him last season, nor Nani. I'm expecting a few surprises with the line up but as long as it doesn't involve shoving Welbeck wide and playing Giggs AND Scholes in a midfield three I wont complain.

A front 4 of RvP, Kagawa, Nani & Valencia picks itself for me, & many others.

What's up for debate is who plays with Carrick.

Evra/Buttman? Great debut last week, but it was a debut so I think we need to stick with the experience of Evra in such a high profile match.

that would be terrible

If Buttner doesn't play I will be disappointed.

I would love to see him play but the reality is that throwing him into this game with only one other appearance so far could be a mistake on our part. I reckon Evra purely for the experience he brings to the defence.

If United lose I'll be disappointed. But hey, we all get disappointed about different things.

Thing is it's not like Evra will give us this 8/10 performance a LB or atleast not make defensive errors several times in a match. Heck, play Buttner and you might get a 9 out of 10. And really boost his confidence for future matches. As it is, the caf is fecking grim about this match.

I don't know if you were at the match/watched it in full, but he really wasn't that good. Up and down first half with some poor crossing. Came into life in the second as he had perhaps got rid of his nerves, but this was against a really, really shit Wigan defence. But as you said, Evra has to get the nod.
