I'm actually looking forward to this match.

One thing for sure, all the promoted players will be out to impress.

Hope Adam Campbell plays for Newcastle. Supposed to be a very special talent.

Powell will surely start. I think him, Buttner and Lingard are highly likely to be involved from start. I'd expect something like:

DDG
RAFAEL
EVANS
FERDINAND
BUTTNER

NANI
FLETCHER
POWELL
LINGAARD

HERNANDEZ
WELBECK

I would be a little surprised if Rio played with 3 matches in 6 days and him looking a little hurt against Liverpool, maybe a game for Wooton

With the injuries we have at the back we've got to take a chance and play the likes of Wooton for me. We need to see how they do against better players just so we don't always have to automatically drop carrick back.

Absolutely zero chance of Ferdinand starting and I'd say with Vidic out for 2 months it's Evans is unlikely to start either.

They both need wrapping in cotton wool with Smalling and Jones nowhere near a return.

With Young and Valencia out there is no chance Nani starts either.

I wouldn't mind seeing Scott Wootton, many people say he is one for the future, the way we are going with injuries to our centre backs, it might be sooner than we thought. He is 21 I think.

I wouldn't be surprised if Evans still starts he hasn't had a lot of games and if we do throw a kid back there like Wooton it is likely SAF will want a experienced head back there with him

Exactly. At the end of the day we have only Ferdinand and Evans to rely on for AT LEAST a month. Probably more.

This is as good an opportunity than any to give him a go in a competitive game.

Never realised he was 21, if he can't get a game in the League cup with a injury crisis at that age you would have to worry about his future here, I know different players develop at different rates but at that age Evans was putting in amazing displays in the Champions League at the San Siro with his ankle strapped up.

Basicaly I want to see how Fletcher's doing after his comeback, and I want to see the likes of Powell, Petrucci, Henriquez, Lingard, etc. Buttner is also one that I'm very much looking forward to watching, and although I wouldn't put my money on it, I hope Newcastle go ahead and field Haris Vučkič as he's probably their brightest prospect at the club next to Ferguson and if there was ever a prospect at another club that I wanted to get a look at it's gotta be him :).

Vuckic gets injured all the time. Plus his slow style of play doesn't really suit the English game unfortunately. I like him a lot but he's running out of chances.

What sort of side do you think Pardew will put out Sewelly?

Well, I'm not gonna blab about "knowing better than you" because I don't, but from what I heard is that he's definitely got the most potential out of that bunch, and a lot of their fans have already taken a liking to him. Not too sure about his injury record but apart from the one he got after a couple of loan games at Cardiff I can't think of more.

I'm half expecting both Kagawa and Nani will be on the bench in case we are chasing something, probably Rooney too if he's fit enough. Does this end today as in extra time + penalties if it's a draw after 90 mins?

Rooney starts and Lingard on bench, that's according to PeterBolton who says Lingard's dad told him.

Hmm according to this seven youngsters from the reserves are in the squad but no Brady.

http://www.herald.ie/sport/no-place-for-brady-3240963.html

Well why on earth would that be? Makes no sense lumping him half way round the world on the pre-season tour, involving him heavily, then not even putting him on the bench for a game like this. Was looking forward to getting a proper look at him.

I have it on very strong authority that Brady was meant to have gone out to a Championship club before the deadline, but for whatever reason it collapsed. For whatever it's worth.

Watching ssn just now. Lads getting off the bus were;

Johnstone, Tunnicliffe, Brady, Evans, Rooney, Lingard, Wootton, Powell, Cole, King, Welbeck, Anderson, Fletcher, Cleverly, Buttner, M.Keane, Blackett, Hernandez, Henriquez, Vermijl, De Gea and Macheda....most likely more but that's all I saw.

Shouldn't affect his involvement tonight though, should it? Unless he's dirtied his bib in some way?

Impressive, cj. Were you taking notes?

So that article about Brady not being in the squad looks like bs
