English Football League
Humid, drizzly Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford, Europe

Slipshod OP in match day thread always equals poor United performance.

Sort it out.

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Rafael
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Evans
LB: Evra

RM: Valencia
CM: Carrick
CM: Scholes
LM: Nani

CF: Rooney
CF: RVP

Subs: Lindegaard, Smalling, Anderson, Cleverley, Fletcher, Welbeck, Hernandez

We'll have to see what sort of condition Fletch is in upon his return from international duty, if he's got the legs and continuing to improve his match sharpness i'd want him out there.

Is Velencia even fit?

Scholes-Carrick in a midfield two can just go and jump of the white cliffs of Dover for all i care.

I think we might see the traditional 4-4-2 variation with wingers, but let's face it, we all want to see the diamond again

So I'd like:

De Gea
Rafael---Ferdinand---Evans---Evra
Carrick
Cleverley---Anderson
Rooney
Welbeck---van Persie

Bench: Johnstone, Smalling, Nani, Young, Fletcher, Scholes, King

Rest the players that will probably be travelling long distances (Chicharito, Valencia, Kagawa are the usual ones, though perhaps they aren't doing much travelling this time round?) since we're strong in their positions right now and those players will be needed in the coming weeks; hopefully Young and Smalling will be ready for the bench, but if not then Wootton and Giggs get their seats.

I'd like us to start giving some of the young players some more time in the first-team; certainly from the bench. My choice for this one is King (just edging out Brady, whom I also like to see get more opportunities) to come on for either striker in the diamond if things are going our way with 20 minutes to go. If we are struggling, then the rest of the bench is plenty strong enough to change things without risking an inexperienced player.

Hope for

Lindegaard

Valencia Ferdinand Evans Evra

Carrick
Cleverley----Kagawa

Rooney

van Persie--------------Nani

Expect

Lindegaard

Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra

Valencia Carrick Scholes Giggs

van Persie Rooney

DeGea in goal is my only worry for this game. They are physical mother f-ers and our boy is still learning ways to deal with it. Haven't heard on Lindegaard, hope he is fit.

Team:

DDG
Valencia Rio Evans Evra
Carrick
Ando Clev
Rooney
RVP Hernandez

Subs: Johnstone, Smalling, Kagawa, Rafael, Scholes, Welbeck, Young

Score: 4-0 United

Why have the last two people taken Rafael(arguably our Player of the Season so far) out of their teams against Stoke. He's pretty decent in the air. It doesn't make sense.

---------------Lindegaard------
Rafeal---Ferdinand----Evans---Evra
---------------Carrick-------------
--------Cleverly------Rooney------
---------------Kagawa------------
-----Van Persie-------Welbeck-----

Subs: De Gea, Valencia, Wooton, Scholes, Hernandez, Smalling, Fletcher

Need to make sure we have a few physical players out there, and as far as possible not anyone who can be easily bullied. As much as I love them, I don't think this is the right game for De Gea, Nani or Kagawa.

-------- Lindegaard

Rafael - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra

-------- Fletcher

----Anderson - Cleverley

-------- Rooney

---Van Persie - Hernandez

Fletcher and Anderson should add a physicality to the team that other midfielders either lack (Carrick) or can't really control well (Scholes). Hernandez's movement should open up a bit of room for Van Persie to operate in. Definitely diamond formation for this match - playing with wingers against a big, physical side like Stoke is just going to see crosses repeatedly going in and out, as we don't really have a prolific target man to compete with them in the air.

Bench: De Gea, Smalling, Buttner, Carrick, Scholes, Kagawa, Welbeck.

Lindegaard is out with an ankle injury, don't think he'll be fit. Carrick will be in the first XI. Personally I'd be delighted if we start with the same XI as we did against Newcastle.

Rubbish! De Gea in for Lindegaard then, with Johnstone on the bench. De Gea under strict instructions not to try to come for crosses, just to focus on his superhuman shot-stopping ability from them.

IMO Valencia is a physically stronger player plus I would like to start him as a wingback to provide width on the right in a diamond formation. I would think he would be better equipped to deal with the threat posed by Etherington. Rafael has been awesome this season but him starting on the bench for this game won't be the end of the world. Playing the Rafael, Nani, DeGea or Kagawa scares me a little against a physical team like Stoke.
