Norwich City vs. Manchester United

Lets make changes during half time and go 4-3-3

Lindegaard
Rafael Smalling Ferdinand Evra
Carrick Anderson Cleverley
Valencia Hernandez RVP

This is anti-Barcelona. Football without any midfield.

Yeah, it's like we refuse to acknowledge passing as a medium of scoring goals. "feck that pointless shit, just get it out wide and put a cross in." Sigh.

Third game in a row I've dozed off before half time. Shocking stuff.

Valencia and Young playing like Wigan and Villa players.

Young and Valencia are utterly shocking at the moment. Neither of them has the confidence to do anything with the ball other than just give it back to Evra/Rafael/Carrick.
Really need Nani and Kagawa back . Anything would be better than these two on the wing.

Except of course Nani and Kagawa have been shit too.

Okay, I know SAF might look at Nani and say "he's been a bad boy", but come the feck on, both Young and Valencia have been shit compared to their capabilities, and in no way do they deserve playing time over Nani playing like this.
Not to mention having 4 midfielders on the bench and we're probably only going to see one of them on the pitch for 20 minutes while we continue this....shit.

Isn't Nani still injured?

Yeah they've been poor, Hernandez is similarly just playing the ball back when he gets it which is probably his biggest problem as a starter. I think the thing about Young and Valencia is that they're so reliant on their fullback creating space for them. Valencia literally just stands there waiting for Rafael to get beyond him, and it slows out attack down so much as if we're trying to break Rafael can't always get from one end of the pitch to the other whilst we still have momentum. Young at least has tried to show some movement but he needs to do it more, one of them needs to try and come inside and link up.

The issue is central midfield as always, having two deep CMs only works when Scholes unexpectedly opens defences up with long balls. Need to push higher up the pitch.

All season? We've always played that way. I don't get why people are suddenly complaining about this gameplan now when it is the individuals that are the problem. It is unimaginative though.

We used to have other options, we used to have midfielders arriving into the box.

Beckham was brilliant in 1998/99 but I swear we relied on his crosses less than we try to rely on Valencia these days.

Considering his left foot is for display purpose only the only thing that was keeping Valencia from being the easiest winger on the planet to mark was that he'd hit the ball across goal at the first sign of any space whatsoever.

Take that away and...well, you get that first half.

Its almost like we are waiting for the first mistake rather forcing our superiority on them. I understand us playing conservatively because we are fecking sieve like at the back, but our wingers really should be putting at least a little bit of pressure on them and getting behind their defence.

I'm the first to say we shouldn't play G or S in a midfield 2. Well, not the first, but one of the top six or eight hundred thousand.

Still, it remains true that Giggsy's created our best chance, out of nothing. As Scholes did last week.

Which is why he should play in a midfield three with very little defensive responsibility given to him.

Week in week out 99.9% of United fans look at the team line up and know that we will struggle with either Giggs or Scholes in a two man midfield. The question has got to be, why can't SAF see it?

Also I swear we've forgotten how to counter-attack in recent years, although this can be attributed to the ineptness of the wingers at the moment.

Depressing when every other midfielder is running the show against our midfield. Week in and week out...

It just isn't true that Norwich has run the show in midfield. i think we all agree that we shouldn't be playing Giggs and Carrick there, but let's not pretend we've had rings run round us.

Most of the game we've controlled, just with very little threat.

Well at least we haven't coneded any goals so... that's good.

Right?

RIGHT?!?

Giggs and Carrick have done pretty well. Direct your anger at our wingers. Maybe starting the season with just three of them, one of which isn't certain of staying at the club, wasn't the brightest of ideas.

In the half-time show they are talking about how may be Norwich should score a goal in order for us to wake up .

We are pathetic!

Which will open up space behind them, and they might not have the legs to cover that. That's the problem of playing with limited midfield players, whatever their disadvantages are. We're OK in terms of control, but it comes as the cost of creating anything because we've got nothing coming from the wings.

Yeah, we have been sh*t all season long. That's why we are sitting in the relegation zone right now..

It's a tricky away fixture. Some make it sound like we've not seen loads similar performances to this over the years.

I will be delighted if the 2nd half is the same and we nick it 1-0.

Is it? Nothing to do with 2 wingers who have contributed nothing, again. Our best chance has come from a Giggs pass, strangely enough.

The worst thing about this philosophy of ours is that no one can even cross the ball.

Our wingers having a stinker. Young's been doing too much running at times and Valencia hesitated to cross far too often. We just need to be a bit more precise and decisive.
