Galatasaray S.K. vs. Manchester United

He got injured and came back, apparently.

Is this going to be one of those games where we see Macheda on the left wing; Petrucci at left back; Carrick in defence; Hernandez playing as our number 10; we get easily beaten and think 'we learnt feck all from that'?

 be nice if everyone played in their natural positions eh?

I reckon the ones that played bad against Norwich may get a game here for punishment. It's a meaningless game for us really, so Fergie might get them to play just so they can buck up their ideas.

Lindegaard

Valencia Ferdinand Smalling Buttner

Cleverley Anderson Carrick

RVP Hernandez Welbeck

 so true.

Hernandez

I don't even want to contemplate our Nick not starting this game.

Valencia, Smalling, Ferdinand and RVP aren't in the squad.

Would love for Powell to start. And Petrucci.

Of course neither will and we'll be left watching Macheda out on the left wing picking his nose.

The young players will learn a lot on this trip, whether they play or not. Even if they don't play in their natural positions they will still benefit from this experience.

Great opportunity for players like Powell, Petrucci and Cole to impress Fergie.

I'd like to see Powell start and see what he can do for 90 minutes, I have high hopes for the lad, but I'd be very content with him on the bench if that means both Ando and Clev start, with Fletcher being the more defensive of a midfield trio. Up front, I'd like to see Welbeck maybe banging a few in, to get some confidence back, but I'd rather not see Macheda. I hate how wasteful he is each time he plays.

It is just written in the stars that Macheda will put in a poor performance tonight, in an unnatural position for him. It is what these types of occasions are all about. It is one of those games that is crying out for Carrick at centre back too.

I see no reason why people like Petrucci, Powell and Cole shouldn't get game time tomorrow. I'll be pretty peeved if they don't.

So Valencia, Giggs and Scholes don't travel? Well they'll be fresh for the weekend then.

Lindegaard
Jones Wootton Smalling Buttner
Fletcher
Cleverley Anderson
Powell
Welbeck Hernandez

Wouldn't mind this team although I would have Vermijl at right back with Jones in the centre. Jones would still be fairly rusty and so no point in him running up and down the right flank.

feck yes - thought this was on Wednesday. A day less before I can see my beloved United again.

No de Gea, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Valencia, Rooney, Giggs, Smalling, Nani, van Persie or Scholes (or Vidic or Kagawa due to longer term injuries) in the travelling squad. If we come away with a result of some sort, we've done very well!

Petrucci will probably not feature because Cleverly, Anderson and Fletcher will likely all feature, then Powell is next in line. Then Tunnicliffe if he's lucky. Cole may be an option out wide.

I feel you may be spot on. Shame really. I'd happily see them all start and leave Clev and Anderson for QPR/West Ham.

Suppose there is the fact that the atmosphere will be intimidating and Fletch/Ando and Clev could do with the minutes but...if not now for some of these kids then when?

I can see Josh King starting on the left tomorrow. Smalling hasn't travelled so don't put him in your teams.

What I'd like to see

Johnstone
Vermijl-Wooton-Jones-Buttner
Thorpe-Petrucci
Cole-Powell-King
Welbeck

Literally no chance of that happening though and for good reason.

Lindegaard
Vermijl-Jones-Wooton-Buttner
Fletcher-Carrick
Young-Ando-King
Welbeck

The only chance is if Powell were to start out wide. I'm not ruling it out because he played well there for the reserves and we only have Ashley Young as a winger. I'd like to see King given a chance out wide though, feel he could make an impact there with his speed and power.

Certainly an interesting idea.

Would like to see this. Welbeck leading the line is the perfect opportunity to show Fergie that he is capable of bringing his international form to club level.

I'd perhaps swap Carrick for either Cleverley or even Tunnicliffe though, we don't want Carrick getting burnt out as he's invaluable.

Swap Carrick for Tunners or Powell. No need for Carrick to play here. IMO anyway.

That first team would get slaughtered. I don't know how you could start King ahead of Powell either. King will leave us at the end of the season and simply doesn't have the ability of Powell. Surely DP deserves to start ahead of Carrick too.

Probably would, be interesting to see what they did in a hostile atmoshere mind. The result isn't important at all for me...the performances of our young players are.

I recognise if they did get destroyed though it would do nothing for them or their career.

Yeah, I think the same now. Mainly because Smalling isn't in the squad xD

Rafael, Carrick, and Young will probably make the bench over some of the younger lads, but to be honest I'd rather us just go with this. We won't learn anything by playing those players, while Rafael and Carrick will at least need to play the League games still.

Powell is not a winger. King has been our best player in reserves since the season has started. If anyone deserves to start then it's him.

I agree and disagree. Powell isn't a winger but he did play well starting from the left for the reserves, plus he needs the game time more than King. If it's Powell vs King then it's an obvious choice who Fergie would pick. I do agree about King though, been our best reserves player this season and does definitely deserve minutes.

I'd be more than happy with Powell central and king wide.

Fine then pick Powell on the right side, pretty sure he played at that position in which he scored that wonder goal.

Travelling squad: Sam Johnstone, Anders Lindegaard; Rafael, Alexander Buttner, Phil Jones, Tom Thorpe, Marnick Vermijl, Scott Wootton; Michael Carrick, Davide Petrucci, Larnell Cole, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher, Anderson, Nick Powell, Ashley Young, Ryan Tunnicliffe; Javier Hernandez, Joshua King, Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda.

Adjusting my original suggested line-up (and mirroring many suggestions on this page):

Lindegaard
Vermijl---Jones---Wootton---Buttner
Fletcher
Tunnicliffe---Petrucci
Powell
Macheda---King

A fair bit weaker than my original line-up, but the upside is Cleverley and Anderson don't get injured after not featuring at all in the Norwich game.

Delighted Petrucci is travelling with the squad; let's hope he gets plenty of time.

 I'm not picking the team!

I think Powell played on the left that game but was floating about and did score coming in off the right. Some nice dribbling from him that night, you'd have thought he was a winger if that was the first time you'd seen him. If it was up to me it'd be Powell in the middle and King down the left. King surely deserves a run out after not coming on in the Carling Cup.

You dont think Cleverlyey and Anderson will play? I'd have thought they're guaranteed.
