Galatasaray S.K. vs. Manchester United

Shame that Juve x Chelsea is at the same time. Could be a great watch...

This is a far better testing ground for youngsters compared to the league cup or pre-season friendlies. Having said that I expect a pretty decent side. Not one filled with teenagers. That would be for the final game, which will be at home.

If we do play a team full of youngsters, I hope people will keep some perspective. They'd probably lose, but that's to be expected against a determined senior team, who have to win, in one of the most intimidating stadiums in the world. The kids just need to put in a good performance, and not worry too much about the result.

Of course, if we play a strong team, I'd like us to give a good account of ourselves.

Yeah, I just hope that whatever team we put out that its well balanced. I hate when you see something like macheda left wing cause were trying to fit everyone in, just means no one can really impress.

I reckon Rafael will start tonight. Jones returning from injury means he can get a rest in plenty of upcoming games. Add Wooton with Jones and Buttner and that's the back four. It's pointless taking Rafael as cover, we could have taken another youngster who would benefit from the trip.

I hope Fergie does not include too many youngsters in the front six. Anderson, Fletcher and Cleverley, Welbeck and Hernandez all need games. If Fergie feels a diamond might work then Powell fits into a start. Young could do with some confidence so he would be worth a start.

Bring on the likes of Petrucci, Tunnicliffe, Cole, macheda or King after the others are prioritised. Other than Macheda just going on the tri[p and getting on the bench is experience.

We will get murdered, and many will think its a sign that the trend from the Villa and Norwich games is continuing.

I hope most will be reasonable and realise that giving youngsters playtime is the right thing to do in this game in spite of that meaning we will probably lose.

Yeah, the only kids i expect to see would be in defence. We have plenty of players needing games in CM and Hernandez+Welbeck will start as strikers i reckon.

Exactly. It's a different kettle of fish entirely, and the result isn't really anything to worry about.

Agreed. Given that we have so many first team strikers to give game time to over the season, I'm not particularly bothered about Macheda or King getting starts. Like you say, they'd just be awkwardly forced into a crazy line-up which would deny us any chance of playing well.

I am expect us to get beat, but if we do get beat, I hope it is with the team playing well and not just rolling over.

Getting beat and playing well in the atmosphere that there will be tonight, is worth 10 crappy Capital One Cup games, in terms of the experience that will be gained

I'm expecting

Lindegaard

Jones Wootton Carrick Buttner

Fletcher
Anderson Cleverley

Young Hernandez Welbeck

Yeah I reckon it'll be something like the above. Think there's zero chance of him playing some of the youth teams I've seen posted on here today.

I like this except for the back four. I'd always prefer to see a youngster playing the appropriate position than a senior midfielder at CB. So I'd play Vermijl at RB (agree that Rafael needs a rest) and Jones alongside Wootton at CB. Why deny Carrick a rest just to play him in a position where he's unlikely to be much use anyway?

How's King been for the U21 lately? He'll be off very quickly if he can't get game time in these two insignificant matches. He's established himself in the NT and all.

Why would anybody want to watch another game when United are on live, maybe watch the highlights later, but never in place of watching United.
Maybe because this game is pointless and some people are not really interested in watching our youngsters when they can watch extended highlights.

Hasn't played in almost 4 weeks, since the 4-2 loss to Spurs in the U21 league. But he's been sharp when playing overall, I'd rather see him get the start over Macheda.

For those watching on Sky, Niall Quinn will be commentating again.

#MUFC XI: Lindegaard, Rafael, Jones, Carrick, Buttner, Fletcher, Cleverley, Anderson, Powell, Welbeck, Hernandez

#MUFC Bench: Johnstone, Wootton, Young, Cole, Vermijl, Macheda, King

Jones and Carrick. Solid. What can go wrong? :) Good energy in MF though. We'll see how this works.
