Galatasaray S.K. vs. Manchester United

I like that team, despite the fact the last time Jones and Carrick were the two CHs we lost at home to Blackburn. :nervous:

That midfield would have won us the game at Norwich, I'm certain!

Shame there is no Petrucci or Thorpe on the bench but glad to see Larnell Cole on there and I hope he gets on.

Yeah, can you imagine Phil Jones this afternoon? Pumped up, finally ready to get career back on track - first match in half a year, ready to rock and roll....

...only to find he'd been paired with Carrick in central defense.

Harsh Fergie, harsh.

Bold prediction: we will suck tonight for at least 60 minutes. People will complain about it and people will complain about people complaining about it. Our 10-30 good minutes will however still be enough to get draw or even a win.

yep..and people will say the midfield isn't working....

well..people on here have been screaming for that kind of midfield...lets see the wisdom of the caf eh?

I'm confident they will do well, the defence might let us down though.

If we're playing a diamond formation that is an exciting midfield. Not too enthused about Carrick being CB, I'd rather Wootton got the experience.

Then that would sum up the current modern day following our club has wouldnt it.

fecking mind boggling.
Okay.

Carrick at CB, fantastic news. Most of players are rested and stayed in England, but the player that actually need a break the most has to play in a pointless game in Turkey as a centre-back. I bet he's happy.

What is the point of Carrick at centre-back? How does that help anyone in any way.

Gives us experience at the back whilst allowing to Rio and Smalling to be fresh for the weekend.

Wootton would be out of his depth tonight, no surprise he isn't thrown in next to Jones.

He's picked Carrick to give people on here something to moan about and somebody to blame if we don't win. Fergie is only looking out for you all.

What's the point though?

I mean, I know Fergie is never going to set up a team knowing it's not good enough but tonight's result is more about the performance and individuals than it is the result. If Wootton is going to be out of his depth then so be it, but there's no harm in playing him and hoping he'll surprise us, and if he doesn't then it doesn't matter.

Except that he had a nightmare against Chelsea in the end that will have really hurt his confidence; he needs a good solid game next time out to help him recover from that. Throwing him into one of the most intimidating stadiums in the world will likely do his development more harm than good.

2 loss in a row, wouldn't be good probably? The team today looks good enough to atleast get a draw. The atmosphere there won't be too friendly for so many youngsters.
Personally would've liked to see him but you know.. I'm still excited about the team. Specially Powell

Good team, particularly if it is a diamond, though don't know why Rafael needs to play this game or Carrick, but more so Rafael, we're thin on defenders and keeping him fit keeps our options at centreback more healthy, not to mention better cover for Evra. Still excited by the team in general.

Hmm pretty much the team I wanted except Wooton at the back instead of Carrick

Respect towards Braga and Cluj there from Fergie, fair play to him. This team is more than good enough to win.

Only reason I can think Fergie wasn't to weary about starting Rafael as he probably think's he has adequate replacement for him in case of burnout/injury. With Smalling/Jones back plus Valencia as an option.

Wrong move IMO though cause Rafael has been consistently one of our top performers.

Ferguson has to respect the other teams in the competition..we would expect no less ourselves if we were relying on certain results. He can't field a whole reserve side..

It's probably better for him to be picked ahead of a midfielder than it is not to play him because he's not good enough, in terms of his confidence.

That and despite the atmosphere, Galatasaray don't have as much to trouble us as what was close to Chelsea's first team.

Probably picked the exact opposite midfield I would've chosen for the last 2 games. Important PL game - Giggs Carrick. Dead rubber CL game, play all the midfielders!

I'm deeply amused that's he picked no less than five players who should have started ahead of Giggs in CM on Saturday.

I know that we're taking a risk by playing Rafael, but havent we been asking for Rafael to play as many games in a row as possible for the last few years? I love watching him play, so I really have no complaints about him starting tonight. Until he gets injured, then Fergie will be a massive idiot for starting him etc..
