Benitez to Chelsea Discussion & Sack watch

He won't be shit though, If he can get the players to back him, he might do good there.

I dont expect him to be shit either, far too good a team there to totally feck it up. But short term, there's no way chelsea will compete for the league this year as i doubt Benitez will continue with the current style of play.

The only thing that concerns me is that Benitez got his Pool team well organized defensively, with the attacking prowess Chelsea have, i'd hate to see him do something similar at chelsea.

Oh, don't worry. Benitez is always a warrantor for f*cked up substitutions and non-substitutions that mess up his team's chances.

I don't think he's a bad manager at all. His last season at Liverpool was quite poor but it was still better than anything they've had since in terms of performances. Hodgson was a disaster all day long and brought far worse players than Benitez ever did in the likes of Poulsen and Konchesky, Dalglish continued the awful work by brining even more dross and while Rodgers supposedly tries to undo all the wrong they have done, it still doesn't look all that good for Liverpool.

Prior to 2009-10 Liverpool did very well. They were among top CL sides for three or four seasons in a row, making final twice and winning one of them, they managed to fight for a title for the first time in God knows how long and generally had decent cup runs with some remarkable performances (4-0 against Real Madrid at Anfield, 2-1 against Barcelona at Nou Camp, beating Mourinho's Chelsea to a final twice).

Inter job wasn't easy, he inherited European champions but they were an old team with no transfers, they had no hunger left in them anymore and he was only allowed to work for 3 or 4 months. I wouldn't mock him or say he had disrupted them in any way as it was too short a period.

I don't expect him to work miracles and turn Chelsea's season around somehow but if they stick with him, they might get good results out of this.

And when you look at Liverpool, at no point in late 90s or early 2000s before Benitez took over did they look like they could win something significant and he made it happen. He also got them close to winning the league quite against the odds back when we were on top with Ronaldo & Rooney pulling the strings at their best, winning 86 points.

Also, winning the league at Valencia against an extremely good Real Madrid side was a fine achievement too.

From www.theshedend.com :

Anger, confusion, humilation, frustration, sadness, embarrassment, pitty..... all emotions that I feel after the FSW has been appointed.

I have slept on it and I still truly feel this is the worst thing to ever happen as a Chelsea supporter.

It makes me sick just looking at him, and when he speaks..... need to cover my ears.

Vomit enducing

Basically the whole team has to unite behind him for 6 months. Honestly can you see that squad rallying behind Benitez in an attempt to all get along? He's a massive egotist and he's got a massive head on his shoulders.

feck I just dont know.. It looks dicey.. Just a weird appointment ..

Rafa Benitez arrives at Cobham for training.

In that team Berbatov scored 9 goals, Tevez 5 goals, Rooney 12 goals and Ronaldo sulked half way through the season and only really woke up in and around march. We won that season on the basis of our defense that season, our attacking play was poor and very uninspired. Obviously it clicked in certain matches but it was no way as good.

Also I'm not sure if Benitez has proved that he can manage his squad around two tournaments. He always had a big squad at Liverpool but yet in the years in which he did well in the CL, he was out of PL race months ago and in the year in which he did well in the PL, Liverpool were out in the group stages.

I honestly feel a bit sorry for genuine Chelsea fans, Benitez has been a knob to them in the past and it must be difficult for them to stomach him.

I think that might be the most problematic aspect of his appointment. His man management skills and the way he deals with players has been widely criticised by his ex players in the past. With the kind of egos they have there, it is perfect recipe for disaster. He'l need to massage the massive egos at chelsea and i just dont see him doing it.

I actually like Benitez and think he is an excellent manager under the right circumstances.

You all can go to hell :(

He does have a massive head on his shoulders, you're right. Fortunately it's counterbalanced by a huge abdomen underneath it

Okay folks, listen, I've had time to contemplate, to sleep on it and get things in perspective ..

And I'm even more pissed off than yesterday.

Also, how do make friends 101:

Keep Benitez away from any transfer decisions (which presumably will happen in January) and he might just do a good job there. We know he can coach.

It was, and still is, always going to be mainly a lack of squad depth that will prevent Chelsea from challenging for the title.

Keep Roman away from they summer/winter transfer window muppetry and maybe the club can actually sign some role players to give the squad depth.

They reached QF in 2008-09 after eliminating Real Madrid, then lost to Chelsea.

I agree it's a shame for Chelsea fans even if he's a decent manager, he's a bellend.

Few of us are fans of Benitez but nevertheless the abuse he's getting from Chelsea fans is disgusting. He doesn't deserve that.

Unlike the others, this has failure written all over it. Because of that I think it might actually work this time :nervous:

My bad then.

Sorry mate, but I don't agree with that.

He's been a knob to them in the past(obviously it works both ways) and it's clear that they hate Benitez.

Would OT crowd accept Daglish even if he was a great manager?
Not a chance.

Oh yeah, there's definitely some truth to all that, mate. I just don't have a lot of time for Chelsea all-round.

Chelsea fans do, on the whole, tend to be quite spoilt. The overriding feeling for them is that they're too 'big' for Benitez, which is quite hilarious really.

Not at all from what I've read on twitter. Most of them hating Benitez hasn't got much to do with his quality rather than his interactions with Chelsea fans over the last few years.

Chelsea fans haven't forgotten about when Rafa said something like 'I'd never manage Chelsea, their fans are passionless and they only wave plastic flags', and rightly so.

Twitter is not really representative here. I'm not quite sure why, but I feel like I should disagree. I know about ten Chelsea matchgoers, and they all seem to think he's just not good enough quality wise.

His problem is that this season they have a lot to lose, but it'll be hard for them to gain anything. They look all but out of the Champions League, while they won't be good enough to win the league. He'll be gone come May, if even then.

The weird thing about his appointment is that hes probably the manager who is most set in his ways and who gets into most conflicts with upper tier management because he wants to do things his way.

If Di Matteo was fired partly for going against Abramovich and benching Torres against Juve then I cant see Benitez working out at all for them. He will be benching everyone at random times to make room for his obsessive squad rotation system.

He's only been given a contract till end of season anyways.
