Benitez to Chelsea Discussion & Sack watch

Mourinho was never going to be there for too long, far too ambitious and head strong to stick around Chelsea so relatively early in his career. Sacking Ancelotti was a huge mistake though.

The problem with Chelsea lies much deeper than who their current manager is.

I don't think they bought particularly well this summer tbh. Too many of the same kind of player (some of them bough, I suspect, simply to stop other clubs buying them) and the hammer blow of losing Drogba and not getting anyone to replace him. Not doing a great deal to patch up their defence.

And their mentality. Since losing to you, they've been knocked off their early stride completely and have drawn 4 and lost 2 of their last 6 league games.

They'll probably still finish ahead of us on account of the talent they have in the midfield, the huge amount of money available if Roman feels Cl football slipping away and us being in a transitional season but what they (and Roman are getting up to) is poor.

He must be smarting right now though. Surely even he will have to pause before firing an interim manager? How much damage will Benitez be allowed to do before being let go?

Looks like he'll have to replace the replacement with a replacement.

Anyone know which manager was fastest ever sacked? Think Benitez is going for that sort of record here.

Leroy Rosenoir, who lasted as manager of Torquay United for just 10 minutes.

I enjoy Rafa's failures far too much for my liking.

Chelsea will probably win the World Club Cup thing, and then Rafa will make out that his reign was a success.

The Cloob Coop is the target. When you estart the season is important to have a target, this is a technical issue which I am essplaining to you, you must have an especific target for the season for the cloob. When you reach the target, then you can think about the other targets, which is to say you make a technical readjustment of the esspetations of the cloob. If you reach all your targets, which is not possible with our net espend, then you do something else technical which I will reveal to you after a small interval wile I eat this pudding.

"Football is a lie, no?"

Put a good centre forward in that side and a lot of the problems go away. Obviously that doesn't solve the David Luiz issue, but I suspect Roman has an industrial strength wood chipper that will sort that pretty sharphish. If he can get to January and convince Roman to buy someone like Falcao then he'll be alright.

He'll try, but Roman will make him get Shevchenko instead.

Yeah a striker would make a huge difference. They need a centre back just as much though, Cahill was a bit of a pointless signing really, he's not close to top level.

Benitez is amazing. He works for a few months gets paid for a few years. Nice work if you can get it ;)

Any club that hires Benitez deserves all the shit that it gets. I was delighted he got appointed and i'l relish seeing them suffer.

My only concern was that he'd make them better defensively. Lets see how that pans out.

Problems go deeper than the manager though as someone rightly pointed out.

With a CV like his I am not surprised. Say what you want he is a top class manager. It's fun to poke at him as he was Liverpool's manager and they should have but didn't win the league that year and he was a fierce rivals of Fergie's. He followed JM at Inter and they were way punching above their weight it was a bad choice for any manager. But what he did at Valencia and Liverpool was close to a miracle. He gets ganged up on over here cause he made enemies with everyone and now its biting his arse. But this Chelsea circus just now is shameful he doesn't deserve this in fact I'd go as far as to say the Chelsea fans better be careful what they wish for or Avram will be back in there soon. Ps hope Chelsea fans get ready for a taste of reality when the day Roman A leaves.

Dont know the details of what was happening at Valencia but what he did at Liverpool wasnt a miracle at all. They challenged for the league once in his tenure here. He spent loads of money. It also wasnt as if he dragged a poor squad to challenge for the title.

----------Torres------

----------Gerrard----

---Alonso--------Mascherano

All at their peaks. Doesnt get much better than that.

He had solid defenders in Carragher, Agger etc too and Reina in goal.

The inter team was always going to go down after Mourinho but their performances under him were pathetic. Way below anything anybody expected.

I do agree that the fans are going overboard with their hate for him but after the relationship he had with them while at Liverpool, am actually glad to see they're sticking to their guns rather than lapping up any shit Abrahamovic throws at them.

Look at it this way, if he was appointed to succeed Sir Alex, would you forget everything that has happened in the past and lap him up? I'd fire the bastard's ass and hope he leaves asap.

He did well at Valencia, but with Cuper's team, a team which had been to 2 consecutive CL finals when Rafa took charge.

Chelsea's problems are not that hard to solve at all. Two signings in the right areas will do it, but it's probably now too late for this season.

Yeah, a striker and possibly a defender and they would be doing much better. All they lack is goals and occasionally a defensive solidity.

A striker? How many of the top class ones are available?

Benitez is a good coach but he's also full of shit and incredibly lucky

But he has been utter rubbish since Aug 09. He took Liverpool from 2nd to 6th. He then ran Inter in to the ground. He is part of a large number of flash in the pan coaches in my opinion.

He is a good coach, just a terrible manager - really, don't let him anywhere near money, the transfer market, or be allowed to make any financial decisions at all.

The midfield's broken. Mikel nailed it after the Juventus game when he stated only 5-6 players were doing any defending. Benitez will sort that out but it'll take time.

Aye, he inherited a team that was as strong as any in Europe, with Ayala, Baraja and Aimar having no peers in their respective positions.

I mean there is a reason he keeps getting these good jobs as a coach (by good I mean big teams being in interested in him)

He was jobless for at-least two years. He's also got this job because no other manager would've accepted an interim role till the end of the season.

I'm not trying to praise him but Benitez isn't completely "shit" is what I'm saying. He'll still attract clubs positioned in 4th-6th positions if they can afford him
