West Ham vs Manchester United

A lot of unwarranted criticism flying around here guys.

Smallings been crap. Bring on Valencia, hopefully get him in a bit of form and push Rafael to right back. Some great one touch passing between our midfield and forwards though, kagawa is great on the ball and does some lovely passes but clearly not quite used to the physicality yet.

It's like playing against donkeys on trampolines in a moshpit full of alcoholics.

As good a defender as he is, I feel that Smalling's lack of a professional football upbringing will mean he's never quite as assured on the ball as the rest of the squad. Decent half though, good performances from Welbeck, Chicharito and Cleverley.

Funny moment of the match was when de gea kicked it long and the west ham fans yelled 'waheeyyy' but then it went right to the head of our player.

We're getting Atkinsoned. Every time. He's surely the best referee to have at home in England.

Welbeck's been our best player. Doubt half on here will have noticed mind.

How people still can't see his obvious quality is beyond me.

Could someone pm me a stream. I got in late, and would like to catch the second half. Thanks in advance.

Good half even if it's dissapointing to have seen West Ham equalize.I just wish all the other players wouldn't automically defer creativity to Scholes. They shouldn't be afraid to try things

Overall we've played a lot of nice quick passing but, it hasn't resulted in chances.

Kagawa has been bleh and Scholes while controlling the game still has the big downside of giving away needless freekicks and right now teetering on a 2nd yellow.

Need to Rafael playing as a proper winger because we aren't really a threat putting balls into the box to give WHU something different to think about. We should still win this but, WHU are going to be a threat throughout so we need to make sure we score early.

Yup. Has been really, really good.

That burst of speed from Welbeck was fantastic. I think he made the right choice in looking for the shot as there was a man between him and Hernandez which would have meant the window for the pass was tiny.

Blistering pace on the counterattack. Unlucky not to score on that solo run. His finishing is still not there yet, but that will come with experience.

Yeah. If you can't see that you need to take up a sport you understand.

I can think of at least 2 west ham chances caused by Scholes dwelling/being slow. Plus he should have been tighter for the cross for their goal.

Yes he's passed it about a bit but you kind of expect that from Scholes.

Halftime report: I bloody hate West Ham.

Because he's guaranteed a second yellow? He's been the best player on the pitch. Understand?

He has made a stupid challenge and could easily be sent off. Tackles are not his best part of the play.

He's been great on the ball but he's a car crash off it.

Have West Ham even had two chances?

Cricket maybe?

Yup. Has been really, really good.

Well it's more typical Danny to be honest. Immaculate touch, lovely interchanges but when it comes to that crucial moment when the striker needs to either score or set it up, he let's himself down.

That's been his 12 months in a nutshell. Does everything right but the one thing that separates quality from class.

On another day he'd already have had it. Hasnt pulled out of any challenges since getting booked, he's the same ticking timebomb he always is on a yellow

They're worst than Stoke, and Atkinson bottled it big time, we had at least 2 good fks on the edge of the box.

Smalling won't come off because we need the height. Didn't realise that West Ham are such long ball cnuts. A free kick 75 yards from goal at 0-0 in the first half and they lump it up into the box. Shouldn't be surprised though looking at their strike "force" of Carroll, Chamakh and Cole.

Smalling's a good enough passer for CB because you've got your defence to stroke it around to and the CMs will take the ball off you from deep. However at RB, you really need that close control and deftness of passing because you've got less of an angle to pass at because of the touchline and the players you're passing to are in less space.

Also Atkinson is determined to be as much a home game referee today, the absolute garbage referee he is.

Agreed.

Welbeck has been good but give me Hernandez's half any day of the week. Unusually for him he hasnt scored but his movement has still been dangerous enough to make a good chance for Cleverley who took it well

What tackle would he have got a second yellow for? How many free kicks has he conceded?

I think we should look to try and retake control by getting clev in alongside scholes more. I'm not a big fan of this diamond as I don't think unless we're really dominating it lets us utilise the a/m enough. Kagawa is usually behind both rafael and clev and closer to scholes than they are. I'd prefer to see him bein allowed to push higher up by dropping clev deeper and moving welbeck in to a wider area.

Welbeck could probably get some joy drifting from the left because were able to suck in a lot of their players to one part of the pitch using our players ability to keep the ball in tight areas but bar one time from clev there's no one really going into the space on the other side of the pitch.

Having no cm on the bench is looking a bit of a bad move with scholes edging ever closer to a second yellow. I don't think smalling is having the best time attackingly so might be worth trying to tuck him in and put rad as a wing back as then it would alleviate some f the defensive burden of scholes.

That's very harsh on the basis of one match. That counter attacking play by him was good and the finish wasn't that bad. West Ham got 3 or 4 defenders back.

We've got 74% of the possession but only 4 shots compared to their 11 (although they are shooting on sight)

West Ham are such a different team without Diame. If they lose him in the January window they will probably go down.

'In case of emergency, bring on Robin van Persie'.

Hernandez, Welbeck and Cleverley are playing well, Scholes has had a lot of the ball as West Ham are playing so deep but the worry is that he's already on a yellow and has had another warning glance from the ref since then.

Rafael and Smalling on the right has been awkward and I think Smalling off and Valencia on would be our best bet right now. Kagawa is lost in the shuffle right now

It's not just his pace. His touch and play in tight situations is fantastic. Very good passer of the ball too

How people still can't see his obvious quality is beyond me.

Hernandez has been way better than Welbeck the first half, Clevs, Scholes and Kagawa have all probably been better or just on par with Welbeck.

He's had half a chance, (which he carved for himself) and drew a save... it was very decent play overall.

People are saying he should have passed it across to Hernandez as if it was the easiest ball to play in the world. He'd have had to do it with his weaker foot, and with a number of West Ham defenders in between the two, the margin for error was very slight. Thus... as a striker, he did the right thing, which was try and get a good shot away, which he did.

One FK around the 36th min where he let advantage but he should have come back for it as United lost the ball quickly after it.Atkinson showed his incompetence there by letting the play on as if nothing happened
