Why does that always get brought up? He is allowed to take a shot on. Rooney does it all the time. Valencia never does it, and never tries anything ambitious. He had one in the first half where he should have played it across goal but ended up tamely hitting it to the keeper. As always, it's moments like that which people can't forget about and the rest of his performance is judged by that one moment in the game where he didn't pass.
He set up another 2 chances, aswell as playing a big part in our 3rd goal, then was unlucky at the end when he carved an opening for a shot that went inches wide.
Of course he wasn't, this was far from his top form, but if you compare it to our wingers' performances from this season, it was good game.
Rooney wasn't also nowhere near his best, but he had good second half. Rafael was one of our best players today, and he was far from his best IMO.
He had another one in the first half too, where he should have played it to someone, but decided to hit a shot into a wall of players.
I never sad the guy wasn't allowed to shoot either, but being a great player he should know the times when to, and when not to.

Nani for me has shown at his best he can be 'Ronaldo' but those have been too few. But an average Nani is still better than most wingers in the Prem.

Yeah by his standards, he was below-par. You have to take into account how long he's been out though and as I said, he did get an assist.
I am genuinely confused as to why the club seem so reluctant to negotiate a new contract with Nani and make him happy. Against Fulham today Nani was more of an outlet and a threat on both the left and right wings than (arguably) Young and (certainly) Valencia have been for months. This, I remind everyone, is a Nani still lacking match practice and still in the process of finding his groove.
Sir Alex needs to put his arm around Nani, like he has done with so many other temperamental players in the past, and just reassure him of his position at United. When Nani is feeling good about his football, good about life, and good about himself that's when he shows his true ability. He won't be able to produce his best while the club keep messing about with this contract and stories about Zenit and the like keep circulating in the press. I'm not comparing him to our other wingers. I am comparing him to Nani's own standards he has set for us all to see. So for people to say he played well, is just wrong IMO.
None of us know what the situation is behind the scenes.
I think the vast majority of us want him to stay and I believe the club feels the same way.
But we have no idea what the demands are etc...
I just hope it gets resolved soon otherwise we will have to sell him in the summer.
In the second half today I thought he was brilliant! As good as anyone else on the pitch. Surprised by some of the comments here.

Our wingers have been shite this year. That is an awful comparison. Truly awful

Agree with that. Had a very good 2nd half and pulled off a few nice tricks. People forget that he's been out injured for quite a while and he needs games to get back to form. Sometimes he's infuriating to watch but that could be said of many players in the squad who don't draw the same amount of flak from the fans as Nani does.
I just think at this moment in time it's irrelevant whether he's at his best, consistent, etc...

As 'shite' as some think Nani was, it's still better than what we've been served up for most of this season

I thought it was pretty encouraging. He frustrated a fair bit in the first half more so with his slowing down of play than the shots, I think he was entitled to take them. But as others have said he's been out for a while and so easing his way back in.
But I thought he showed that he can bring so much to the table. He was linking up out wide and centrally, his movement was excellent with a bit more luck he could easily have gotten a goal or an assist. I just think he gives us another dimension to our game because he can beat people outwide and inside, has pace and two good feet, just needs to get some sharpness and he'll be a big weapon and we already know his style works really well with the likes of kagawa.

Who else do you want to compare him with when considering if he should be starting games?
Exactly. This nani is still miles more productive than any of our other wingers (bar giggs) have been all season. You can count the amount of chances Valencia has made on one hand this season, and young has been decent but that's as good as you'll get from him. If we get him firing on all cylinders then he would improve us so much.

No, it's not. Comparing player who has played his second game after two months injury with his best form is awfull, trully awfull.
I don't expect you to talk about their performances, just to compare it with Nani's performance.
Some of the posts on here have been utterly clueless. Also, considering how poor our wing play has been this season, it's also baffling.
Always good to have him on the pitch, that unpredictability and flair is essential.

Eh, why? How is that relevant? I'm in the Nani thread talking about his game today. I am not about to start comparing him to Rooney or Carrick, because it will no doubt derail the thread.
Indeed. A lot of people seem to think it will be a simple Zaha in, Nani out, but I don't think that at all. I think there will be some surprises for sure.
We as United fans generally know who is going to be sold before the Summer transfers begin, I can't remember when a first team player being sold has come as a complete shock.
I think we'll get a good idea in the 2nd half to the season. If Nani barely plays even though he is fit then he'll be off but I think he may play more than we think and sign a new contract before the season is over, or soon after.

His decision making hasn't always been the best part of his game, but you can't say that being out for as long as he has, doesn't contribute to his match sharpness.

Nani even at his best has been a frustrating player. I've never been all that impressed with his final 'thought' so to speak. But when in form most stuff he tries come off...his skills are second to none.
But to your point...I said I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

He's infuriating. But I still want him here, he is capable of anything on a football field. Not many wingers in the world can do the stuff he is capable of.
That's exactly what I think will happen too. It just wouldn't make sense to let Nani go, no sense at all.
I thought he did reallly well today. The end product might not have been there yet, but he hasn't played much for months so that't not such a surprise.
