Manchester United vs. Southampton

is there a single person here that doesnt want to see nani, kagawa, rooney and rvp all start? mouth watering.

Yes...

------------De Gea-----------------

Rafael----Ferdinand----Vidic-----Evra

--------Carrick------Cleverley--------
Nani----------Rooney----------Welbeck
-------------Van Persie-----------------

And I agree. On current form Welbeck merits a start. Kagawa and Nani are at the moment still working their way back from injury, and in Kagawa's case also trying to establish himself in our team. I don't think that we're ready to unleash that attacking quartet just yet.

Yes, so let's drop him for a bit.

In all seriousness though, Nani and Kagawa have both been very good in the little that we've been able to see of them recently. Welbeck's perfectly deserving of a start, but so are those two. I think we're more than ready to 'unleash' them.

Prediction:

...............van Persie......Rooney

Welbeck ....................................Valencia
................Cleverley ...Carrick

....Evra.... Ferdinand.... Vidic ....Rafael

..........................De Gea

Desired XI:

...............van Persie......Rooney

Kagawa ....................................Nani
................Anderson ...Carrick

....Evra.... Ferdinand.... Vidic ....Rafael

..........................De Gea

Time for Rooney and VP to really get their partnership going, one that's going to need to be red hot to blow us through the next months.

This game just became really massive. Would be a great boost to get that seven point gap back in place after chucking it away against Spurs.

De Gea
Rafael Vidic Smalling Evra
Nani Carrick Cleverley Kagawa
Rvp Rooney

I'd like to see Smalling get a go partnered with Vidic. The Rio/Evans combo hasn't filled me with confidence when I've seen them thus far this season. Massive potential with Nani, Kagawa, Rvp and Rooney, if they get going they could really start tearing apart defences.

Can't wait for this fixture, it was a cracking match at the start of the season!

this is the perfect game for us to really kick on with our play and get our game faces on in time for the business end. At home against an inferior side who wont park the bus but also won't pose a massive threat. We should boss it from start to finish and run out 3 or 4-0

For some reason though I can see this being really tight and nervy instead. We'll have bags of possesion but will play very patiently, Southampton will be conservative and will hold their point for as long as they can. Eventually though RVP will pop up 10-15 from the end and seal it 1-0 for us

either way

I can see us winning big tonight. Might have a bet on 6-0

Yep I hope we go with a full strength team firing on all cylinders and we put a few past them. Just hope we're ruthless and in the game for the whole 90 minutes. Unfortunately I'm gonna miss this one, I'm annoyed, think it'll be good!

Their old manager got sacked because the chairman thought they werent giving it enough of a go against the big sides. They'll come out and try and play us off the park tonight. They wont, but theyll give it a go. The one thing im confident of is goals.

Lindegaard; Jones; Scholes, Anderson, Nani; Hernandez, Welbeck

I think Nani might be dropped to the bench as he's only recently back from injury. He'll get on as a sub though, probably for Valencia if he doesn't have a decent match. Giggs might make the bench due to his good form lately, but personally I think he'd benefit from a full rest too.

It's hard to drop Hernandez, but I'd prefer him to be on the bench and come on if needed. On the left, it's out of four players in Nani, Giggs, Kagawa, and Welbeck. While Giggs has been on the best form, Welbeck has been working hard, and Nani has looked sharp even after an injury, I think this is a game for Kagawa to try and find some form. He hasn't settled in properly yet so let's give him a game against one of the 'lesser' teams at home to try and find some confidence.

The rest of the team picks itself bar Buttner, who probably won't start to be honest. I just think despite the break the players have had, this is the best chance to give Evra a rest so he doesn't have to play three games in a week. Then he'll be fresher for Everton and Real Madrid (while still facing Fulham on the weekend to keep match sharp).

Ideal subs to bring on would be Scholes for Carrick, Nani for Valencia, and Welbeck for Rooney/RvP/Kagawa if we're already in a strong position.

7-0....

Just kidding, but I'd be slightly miffed if we didn't do these by at least three goals and get up to +30 goal difference. Three points is all that matters for now, though. Have to take this chance to extend the lead again.

This. Matches where we haven't either started slowly or given up control once we score a couple have been few and far between this season. If we want to build up the sort of momentum needed to beat Madrid, we'll need to start doing this right now.

Full strength, no messing about. The chance to extend our lead at the top to seven points is great so let's put out our strongest team and blow Southampton away.

De Gea - Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra - Nani, Cleverley, Carrick, Kagawa - Rooney, van Persie

My sentiments ( and team) exactly.

If Vidic can deal with Lambert then I am fairly confident we won't concede

Ramirez is a threat as well.. and Puncheon can be tricky.
But we are at home. No excuses. If we play to our potential, we should win this comfortably.. even if Southampton play well.

Is this on tele tonight, or will I be looking for dodgy rivers?

I am sick and twisted, but I wasn't sure, so I asked if he has scored a hat-trick. I remember him scoring two goals a couple of times, but not three.

Umm, he's got one against Southampton already this season.

He got a hat trick last time we played Southampton. A hat trick I will always remember!

Do you remember the reverse fixture?

Need to win this match and get it back to 7 because away to Fulham at the weekend could be a tricky one for us. It's a fixture we've not done too well in recent years.

Great opportunity for us after city unexpectedly dropped points against QPR. Fair fecks to Harry, he is getting a lot more out of them.

Would be a big psychological blow to City if we win and do it convincingly tonight. Southampton are dangerous and score plenty of goals though so I think we need to score a few tonight to guarantee a win.

Given yesterday's slip up from City, whatever he seems to be the strongest, hope SAF does not hold back an we win easily.

Would allow us to take a risk and rest our top 6 key players between the 2 Madrid games and we don't get too affected should we lose.

Anyways it's Southampton at Old Trafford. Champions have to win these games. I'd be tempted to play RVP and Hernandez, Rooney and nani and a front four with Cleverley and Kagawa as central midfielders.

I'm all happy about going full strength, but that means everyone will be fecked on Saturday when we play Fulham away, a game in which I think Fulham will get a draw unless we play our strongest XI.

You're being too precious. Rotation is important, but that doesn't mean the lads can't play two games in a week every now and then without being 'fecked'. Fergie's used our squad brilliantly over the winter period, so everyone should be fairly fresh at the moment, especially with all those returning from injury lay-off.

What is our strongest 11 though? A starting 6 off DDG Rafael Evra Carrick Rooney and RVP then fill in the blanks as far as I'm concerned! And with it being Southampton at home I could see Fergie resting one of them in Carrick. But I do think he really needs to get RVP and Rooney linking up again although neither Hernandez or Welbeck deserve the chop I wonder if he'd field that front four as a diamond.

Southampton looked very good last time I watched them. High pressing tactics that we struggle against too. I think we will win but I'm not sure it will be a massive win.

Yup I agree. I dont think they have lost in 7 league games taking draws from Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton along the way. We should win but I feel it will be a tough game.
