Manchester United vs Real Madrid

4:33 am here.

Just woke up, can't stop thinking about this match. Football, bloody hell.

Right now the team I'd like to see is this:

DDG

Rafael - Vidic - Ferdinand - Evra

Valencia - Carrick - Cleverley - Young

Rooney

Van Persie

Let's face it, this lineup has worked in the big games and gives us a lot of work rate. We can bring in Welbeck for Young if we need to try something different and Kagawa for Cleverley.

Thoughts?

In before why play Valencia - he's in horrible form.

Quite a few teams have stopped Madrid from scoring in La Liga this season. Quite mediocre teams too. All of them away from home I think.

As for us, we've only failed to score twice in the league this season.

Can't dispute their form over the last couple of months though. They look like they're back to their best which couldn't come at a worse time for us.

This fixture is still right down the middle. I can foresee our game plan being a 'protect what we have' plan which frightens the shit out of me. And I'm still butthurt at being unsuccessful in the ballot.

I can't think of a single big United CL fixture at Old Trafford to which we have completely sat back and just aimed to go through from the away goal in the first leg. feck that.

We'll attack. Our defence is on good form.

I reckon we'll win.

This would be the lineup for me! Can't leave out Evans or Kagawa. Kagawas runs of the their CB's in the first match was great and we need more of that, they were very uncomfortable with the running against them with out the ball!

Welbeck is fit and ready, we need the height on set pieces and he is a very hard worker!

Rooney and Rafael will shut down Ronaldo the most of the night.

-------------DDG
Rafael - Evans - Ferdinand - Evra
----- Carrick - Cleverley
Rooney - Kagawa - Welbeck
--------- RVP

can't carry anyone in the team today. Every single player has to be on song to beat Real. They won't win the spanish league, this is their chance this season to overshadow what Barca achieve. Their last two results must have confidence surging through them.

For me? yeah ok...pessimistic, but only because I think Real are just a bit too strong for us at the moment. Now...in a year or two's time.....................

Cutting the supply out to Ronaldo, especially from Özil and, in particular, Xabi Alonso, will be vital tonight. Losing Jones would be a big blow. Can Cleverley do the job or will Fergie leave this out completely and focus on our game plan?

Just got off the phone with the University and they are going to show the match so I'm actually going to watch this match without having to travel home, and I'm buzzing right now!!!

Can't focus at the moment, time seems to be going by so slowly.

Imagine if it is still 0-0 with five minutes left on the clock.. bloody hell.

Nani has to start, otherwise we are going to have 0 threat down the right if Val starts.

- Carrick - Clev -

Nani - Rooney - Kagawa

-------- RvP -----------

Nani/Rooney/Kagz all interchanging and bamboozling the Madrid defence

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Valencia Rooney Kagawa
van Persie

Lindegaard; Smalling; Anderson, Giggs, Nani; Welbeck, Hernandez

Swap Valencia for Nani and we are good to go. Even Welbeck. Valencia couldn't be in front of none of them with current form.

Nerves are killing me here, dont have a good feeling about this one. To be honest though I would be more worried about the knock on effect of losing the game rather than losing the game itself. I can't imagine these not scoring on us, its going to be a fecker of a match to watch.

Both teams will score. Ronaldo will score. We will win 3-2 :D

I think it's a given that they'll score. Very likely as well that they'll score more than one.

We may have to win this 3-2. I'll be chewing my nails so much tonight I may very well amputate myself.

No, no I cant handle shit like that tonight. If it happens I will be shitting myself big time.

I have a feeling this match could be quite similar to the Barca match in 2008, both the outcome and tension towards the end!

Its fecking 3:20am and I still cant fall asleep. Just watched a movie and a few uplifting United videos. Not even close to going to sleep.

I hope we come flying out of the blocks. This match is bound to get cagey fast, so which team starts better could have a lot to do with the result. In recent years our best European performances tend to have come when we have kicked off at 100 miles an hour and blown the opposition away in the first half hour.

We need to try and carry the football we were playing in the last 20 against Norwich straight into the first 20 today.

I'm trying to get inside the mind of Fergie... I think tonight we'll see:

De Gea

Rafael ... Vidic ... Rio ... Evra

Carrick ... Cleverley

Young ... Giggs ... Rooney

RVP

I think he'll go for Vidic over Evans due to the "experience" factor, and also his aerial prowess. I have a sneaky feeling Young will start - when fully fit, he's started in our biggest games this season - but that's all I have to base that suspicion on. And I think he'll start Giggs, again for the experience and for an extra man in midfield who he actually trusts.

Obviously like with an exercise of trying to guess what Fergie will do, the starting line-up will probably look nothing like this.

I love Giggs, but no way should he start

I'm thinking this:

De Gea

Rafael ... Rio ... Vidic ... Evra

Carrick ... Cleverley

Valencia ... Kagawa ... Rooney

RVP

I think that Sir Alex will choose Valencia on right wing due to his defensive work rate and that Kagawa might just have played him self into tonight's starting eleven.
Rio's partner is more difficult, if Vidic's knee can handle playing again then he will start. If not, Evans it is - I'm pretty comfortable either way, although I'd prefer Vidic against Ronaldo in the air.

You think he'll start Giggs over Kagawa in that position after Kagawa's game against Norwich?

We haven't lost a league game where Rio and Vidic have both started since May 2011.

There is no way Nani is starting for me.

If he doesn't then it's the biggest indication yet that he's off in the Summer IMO.

The last game he played he was MOTM despite only playing half a game. If his "reward" for that is to be dropped for the 2 games following then there's no way back.

This is the probably the only match ever that I wouldn't mind seeing 5 at the back  Not because I want to sit back, but because I would hate to leave any of Ferdinand, Vidic or Evans out. Vidic will probably sit out due to playing against Norwich, but boy I would love to have him against Ronaldo.
De Gea

*Of course it won't happen, and it may just be a god awful idea too. I just brought it up for the sole purpose of wanting to see the 3 CBs in the team.

I guess another way of doing it in just play Evans in the Jones-role. Pretty sure he'd do a good job. Better technically too I'd say and passer. Probably wouldn't give us the drive that Jones would give us though.

You think he'll start Giggs over Kagawa in that position after Kagawa's game against Norwich?

It's the one I'm least sure of... my thinking though is that, Fergie will have picked his team for this game about a week or so ago, and he'll just stick with his convictions. Just something about this 1000th game shit that keeps bugging me.

People have scored hat-tricks for us in the past and found themselves on the bench for the next game, so it's not like Fergie isn't prepared to do it!

We haven't lost a league game where Rio and Vidic have both started since May 2011.

How many games have they started together in that time though?

De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Cleverley, Welbeck, Van Persie, Rooney, are all sure starters I'd say, considering their roles in the Norwich game.

This only really leaves one spot for Valencia, Nani, Giggs or Kagawa.
