Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

I'd imagine he'll get a nice fat new contract in the summer.

Pretty meaningless. If a player has made up his mind to go then there's feck all clubs can do to keep them.

Spurs would be better off getting 50m and improving their side with at 3 new signings at least. They are a one man team

Player of the year, easily. Unless he somehow starts turning in Ando-like performances over the last 8 games.

It's hard to see Levy letting go of Bale, even with a 50m all cash up front payment. Bale himself seems happy and life couldn't be better for him on a professional development front. We might scoff at the notion, but why not Spurs for a serious CL run? I personally don't think it's within their reach, but they might think otherwise. Look at a club like Borussia Dortmund. If they can go this far, why not Spurs?

Still, if I were in Bale's shoes I'd want to move up to either United or Real. As long as Ronaldo is at the Bernabeau, there really isn't room for Bale there. But United could really use a good man like Gareth Bale to make that final push for a CL semifinal appearance. At that point, it's really up to the football gods as to who will win it all.

Well, he seems genuinely happy at Tottenham so if he signs a contract to bump him to north of £100grand a week I'd imagine he'd stick around a bit longer.

We're the only club I'd see him going to, Chelsea and City don't play with wingers. All though he plays behind the striker now, surely his career will see him play on the wing.

Don't you think they'd try and accommodate a player of his ability?

Having said that with Hazard already at Chelsea, I can't see him there...but City? Entirtely different proposition

To be fair though that was when he was at his first stage, attempting to get first team football. Now he is an established player starring for 1 of the best teams in england, its time for stage 2. Becoming one of the best/biggest players in the world.

He cannot achieve that at spurs, with us he could.

True, I did consider that initially but it didn't change my thoughts on the matter.

Perhaps something else to think about is that he's Welsh. At United he's going to be in Giggsy's shadow forever. If he goes to the continent he'll have a chance to outshine him, at least briefly.

To me, he's looked far more effective since he has been given the freedom to come off the wing. I don't think it makes sense to stick him back out there unless he can float about.

if we decide to wait that long we will miss out. I personally think he will look to leave Spurs and move up a level this summer

I don't think he'll leave this summer. I think Spurs will spend big and get him to stay on and prove himself against the big teams in europe. It'd be a monumental task for any team to sign him this summer, like the Berbatov situation but 10x worse. Spurs are doing well and have no reason to sell.

A certain sabre toothed stamper might take issue with that as he is carrying a far worse shower of shite than the players surrounding Bale.

Bale has been more consistent imho. Suarez stands out more because he's playing with worse players

Agree with this, but I think if we signed him we'd give him the same freedom that we give Kagawa when he plays left or how we do with Nani, where they are allowed to drift in and out as they please. I don't think it'd be a problem if he's technically asked to play wide left, because Valencia is our only winger who seems to be under instructions to stay to the touchline.

People crying tears any time someone doesn't acknowledge him as the be all and end all is getting really fecking boring too if we're being honest.

That's plain nonsense too.

I don't think anyone has said he's the 'be all and and end all' ( you're words) just that on current form he's the best player in the PL by a country mile.

More knowledgeable observers have said the same and Iwouldn't argue with them

Who's saying he's the be all and end all? Who's crying tears?

Facts are he's young, is showing rapid signs of improvement, he's the 3rd top goalscorer in the league from an advanced midfield position, he's scoring fantastic individual goals, and has great technique, pace and power.

Do yourself a favour and just feck off.

Facts are the guy said 'best player in the league' not best player on form. Facts are people cry like children whenever someone doesn't join in with the ********. Fact's are some people just don't rate him as highly as yourselves and you'll need to get over that.

I might do myself that favour actually, probably beats putting up with crying fanboys every time the discussion comes up

Bale has been great in patches of form. Suarez has been more consistent through the season. Suarez also contributes more to the team.

"By a country mile" is pushing it. He's not been that good, especially when you compare him to his contemporaries in the attacking/wide midfield positions.

Rafa, is that you?

These are types of people are similar to the players who royally feck up the PFA awards by getting all starry eyed of the player in form when the voting takes place. It's similar to how he won it before.

Rafa, is that you?

I also honestly think, that an absolute statement like calling Bale the best player of the league is going too far at the moment. He may be the best performing player of the PL in the last one or two months, but for me it takes more consistency to claim him as the very best.

What I´m mostly interested to see is, how Bale would work in a team, that is not centered around him and where he can not take every shot he wants and needs to share chances.

Right now, he reminds me a lot of the Marco Reus in the last season. He played a magnificent season (was rightfully chosen as the player of the league then) and carried the midtable team Gladbach to a very suprising 4th place finish. He was THE player of Gladbach.

Then he moved to Dortmund and his situation changed. He is not the single star player of the offensive anymore. He now plays next to the prodigy Mario Götze, who gathers most of the attention there and behind one of the most promising strikers in Europe at the moment, who heads to his second season result of scoring more than 20 goals (30 scorer) in the league plus several goals in the CL.

Reus proves in this season what I want to see from Bale: to stay productive even if you share a lot of potential chances.

I have a funny feeling that he will stay at Spurs another season. He seems very happy currently there and spurs are looking like they will have champions league football again.

Give him reassurances that they are going to improve the squad in the transfer window, and I don't see why he will want to leave right now.

If they do, and qualify for the CL he might stay - but when have Spurs ever spent big? Example - they needed a forward in January, didn't buy one and have dropped points. The CL is by no means guaranteed either.

They might get a big offer in the summer, he might want to go. If he wants to go he probably will, especially if it's Real Madrid who come knocking. I think the player, as usual, will decide where he wants to be next year.

Or you could look at Bale as a player who's able to play well and pretty much win games on his own, in one of the best leagues in the world.

I'd say there's a pretty good chance that if he moves to a better team, he'll have even more space and be even more dangerous - especailly if that side gives him a similar free role to that which he's had this season at Spurs.

His attributes are various - you dont know whether to get close, becasue he can beat you over five yards, or stand off because of his shooting ability - that makes him unpredictable.

For me, if there are other threats in the side it would make him even more difficult to mark.

Bale would/could also play as the traditional winger in certain matches where maybe more defensive work is needed from him.He will offer many possibilities that's for sure

Absolutely. His physical attributes mean he can play out wide and do well - even if that's not where he's most effective.

Wouldn't it be great if inception was possible and we could plant the idea in Daniel Levys head to sell us Bale for 15 million plus Ashley Young.... Hell we could even throw in Ando to sweeten the deal

Bale down. Looks bad.

On one hand I feel really bad for the guy because he's had a season deserving of the player of the year award or at least to be nominated.
However it could be great news for Us, Chelsea and Arsenal.

AVB will receive huge criticism for prioritizing the EL if this is what ends up costing them the Ucl.

Player of the year's already been voted for and he's probably won.

Looked absolutely shattered today and approached that challenge really clumsily because of it. Really shouldn't have played this game.

Looks to be ankle ligaments as opposed to a bone break. Doubt we'll see him again this season though.

Is it just me or did it not appear to be "that" bad? I mean, it looks nasty, but it might well just be a ligament tweak. Could be all season, could be two weeks.

Yeah, probably ligaments but still could be looking for a month + break and more. Depends on how bad it is.

Don't think it's a break though.

I stupidly played on after ligament damage...my leg was the size of an airship* within ten minutes.

*Slight exaggeration.

Even if its two weeks, at this stage it will be enough to feck up their chances for 4th.

Wenger will have his trophy after all.

Bale's season looks over with Gallas, and Lennon looking to be out for a number of weeks.
