Manchester United vs. Manchester City

If we beat city, then we will be on 80 points and they will be on 62, they will be able to get a total of 83 points if they win the rest of their games, so we would be required to get 84 to be mathematically secure
so if we beat city, then we have to win 1 more game and draw 1 more.
If we draw with city we will be on 78 points and city on 63, they will be able to get a maximum of 84, so we would need two wins and a draw to get out title back.
If we lose to city, then they will be on 65, with the possibility of getting 86, we would require three wins and a draw to get the title.

There ye all go.

city's fixtures left with 5 of the 7 are against Wigan (H), West Brom (H), Reading (A), West Ham (H), Norwich (H).

How the hell can they have so easy fixtures? I guess "the computer draw" wanted them to have another great run in......Puh we are 15 clear.

feck me, doesn't even feel like a derby day, most lowkey build up in a while.

Not that easy. 3 of those are in the relegation battle - at this stage of the season, that's not easy. I guess Reading will be relegated by then so they might just play for pride.

West Ham and West Brom are the easiest games for them I'd say, strangely.

All easy cos they're mostly at home and the away one is at Reading who will be done.

Strictly it isn't, we thought we had it wrapped up last season & look what happened.

Lets see it through safely before we get the Champagne out, eh?

Some common sense at last.

It's the least important derby in years.

Nah. Derby day, for me, bares no relevance to the competition they are in. It's a grudge match against your rivals. During the Premier League era, it's been very rare we have been playing for position against Liverpool or Leeds United, and it's only in the past couple of years that City have really been pushing us.

If they win, they are 12 points behind. still a sizable gap, but after last season, we saw that a bumpy run of form over a handful of games can change everything. We are still to play Arsenal away and Chelsea at home, and a couple of games that can be considered difficult away games.

You could argue that a win tonight certainly wraps it up though, so that's definitely a fine incentive!

From a footballing perspective it is the least important derby in a good while. This game doesn't have much, if any, relevance to where the league title will end up.

It's a massive game for me. Would be lovely to win the league tonight (not on paper, but 18 points is of course too much). I remember being so nervous every may most years and I guess most United's fans heart will feel much better to have a season like 1999/00 and 2000/01 when the league was won in april too.

I just don't agree with people who say it's all over. It's extremely unlikely that we'll lose from here but a loss tonight and you'd have a little bit of nerves creeping in and even more so considering how bad our run in is and how easy City's is. Avoiding defeat tonight would be wonderful.

i wonder if the gap at the end of the next round of league fixtures was 10 points would people be saying this isnt an important derby. or 6 points with 3 games left for that matter. its a hugely important derby and one that i feel defines our season. win it, and we go 18 points clear which emphatically hammers city intp 2nd. lose it, and the end of the season will feel to many, like a relief, glad of the title being back but underwhelmed overall. i do believe that 1 game can be so important in defining a season, especially after losing to real and chelsea so recenty, 1 big game performance would appease many.

I thought you meant I wasn't from Manchester or something.

Yep, win this one and we could have the title wrapped up at West Ham next Wednesday. Win tonight and then again on Sunday at Stoke means 1 point at Upton Park clinches the title.

I'll be confident if we go with an attacking line-up, no need for Jones in midfield. Rooney, Kagawa and RvP all deserve to start, the other winger could be anyone.

Definitely Welbeck, thats what I want to see anyway. But, I have a feeling Valencia will start after Sir Alex's comments after the Chelsea game and Kagawa won't. I'd imagine the only way Kagawa will get to start is if Valencia starts at right back for Rafael.

What I am expecting:

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Jones Giggs
Rooney van Persie

don't have sky sports anymore :( streams better work

I think if city win tonight then those games will in fact be easy for them. They will really start to believe and will be looking at our remaining fixture list thinking..hey...maybe...just maybe...

XI that I think the manager will select:

De Gea

Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra

Jones - Carrick - Giggs

Rooney - Welbeck
van Persie

XI that I'd like to see:

De Gea

Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra

Cleverley - Carrick

Nani - Rooney - Kagawa

van Persie

I'd love to see the front four in the second XI being let loose on City's defence. feck it, the title is wrapped up so let's go for it and try get those feckers back for that game.

Do I risk not being able to find a stream tonight, or pay £9.99 for that Now TV Sky pass thing they now do?

I will be so pissed off if the team play shit tonight. This is our one chance to go out and prove we're the best footballing side with no pressure on us. We should really go for them and look to play our best football, not this cagey stuff from the close matches. Would give the team great confidence if they knew they could walk over this city side

to be honest..I expect us to do what we have mostly all season. Have a pretty good first half..perhaps even score...and for city to pressure us like stupid during the second half....

We're winning this lads.

It'll be a piece of piss to find a stream. Always is for televised games.

If they were to give us a thumping which is possible given the dog shit we've played since the Madrid game then it would take a real sheen of the season in the short term.

I really hope the lads are up for this. 6-1 should be motivation enough.

I would like a good performance but I'm not sure we'll get that. We're not playing great at the minute but we've turned up in the big games this season generally. 2-1 to us with us starting and ending well.

if the title wasn't already wrapped up most people would want United to batter City and get revenge for last year's humiliation, now it's just a game people want us to go through without too much to do except not lose.
