Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Bale has yet to hit the levels Giggs did at his very best. People always point to the goals, but they forget that when Giggs was Bale's age a winger was actually a winger. Makes me wish they recorded assists back then.

Not just the assists, but Giggs had exceptional passing and vision imo. I am pretty sure had he moved to Italy during all those rumors he would have certainly played as a trequartista over there.

Played poorly apparently today but still a match winner.

Class.

BBC said he's only got 4 assists all season, that right? If it is that's poor, and why does he get both awards for scoring less and impacting less on the team?

The assist thing has been a stat used to beat him all season. Yes, he should be getting more. No doubt. But there's no denying he's been phenominal this season. How many times has he been a match winner this season?

fecking loads. That's how many.

His transfer fee is going to be astronimical this summer. I think only citeh and madrid would be able to afford him, if even.

Aye it's not the best but to be fair the attacking options spurs have are shit. Other than Bale there's been few goals coming from the front men, last time i checked Adebayor had 5 goals and Defoe 10 or something like that. His total would be much higher if they had some quality playing alongside him.

I don't think he wants to come here. IIRC he said something when he first signed for Spurs about the pressure that would exist following Giggs to United as the best Welsh player, and a winger, and wanting to avoid that.

the more I think about it...doubt Bale would be coming here. think we wont be spending that kind of money to play on the wings...and if it is as a forward...we are well stocked there.

...still you never know what Fergie is up to.

off to the Muppets thread 2013 :)

He's basically won Spurs 30 points this season. He's a quite ridiculous player. He is barely fit - he's running on empty, and he can barely even run at times. Despite this, he's got three goals in three games. Astonishing. Best player in the league. Worth £55-60m.

He's an incredible player. The scary thing is that he's Improving all the time. I don't like to use the term one man team, but it's hard to not call Spurs that.

He's a truly wonderful player isnt he, I'd go as far as to say he has been the most influential player for any team in England this year and the second most influential in the world. Second only to the best player that has ever played the game

Barring Sandro, Lloris and Vertonghen, the players around him are decisively average. Spurs would probably have a championship winning team if they built the team with that spine around Bale.

Realistically, how much do you think he will cost if spurs make it to the CL? I think levy would probably ask for 40-50m.

That's because he wants to improve all the time, he is always looking to improve aspects of his game and by what they say, he is a demon in training. His right foot is getting better all the time and he has now proven he can play anywhere across the front line.

Some say he's is 'copying' Ronaldo's career and his training methods, but let's be honest, it's not a bad blueprint to follow is it?

Bale to me now has an aura around him on the pitch, you just expect something spectacular from him every time.

He's the most exiting player in the league to watch. When he's playing, even if he'S doing very little, you know that any minute he can pull something out of the bag. He reminds me so much of Ronaldo during the 2006/07 season.

Yup, that's true.

The improvement in his game in the last two-three seasons has been incredible. I remember some people calling him an hit and run merchant but he has progressed way beyond that. His long range shooting is probably the best in the league right now, he has improved his freekicks, he is now more versatile and has played excellently in the center and the right wing position.

As been said before, this season reminds me of Ronaldo's 06/07 season.

Wonderful strike. Can you imagine how many goals he could score if he improved his tap-in ability in a top quality team?

That was a very Messi-esque goal to be honest. We have seen so many players who are left-footed and play on the right in the Premier league and a good example is Adam Johnson. However, it looks as though Bale is the real deal at the moment and we should perhaps break the bank.

I reckon he's scored more screamers this season than Ronaldo.

This gif actually gives you an indication of why he has so few assists this season. Bar the clever run from Holtby to make space for himself, the other 3 players (Defoe, Adebayor and Siggurdsson I think ) stand still. No efforts to make space. No efforts to create space for Bale by running and taking a defender. They just stand there. Its abysmal.

more of a 07/08 Ronaldo than the 06/07 one.

The 06/07 Ronaldo had much more assists. This has matchwinner 07/08 Ronaldo written all over it.

Assists depend heavily on others to finish off your good work. He has created a chance for Spurs every 38 minutes of football this season, including 58 successful crosses. Out of that there was a clear-cut chance every 256 minutes of football. That is 10 clear-cut chances this season.

If his profligate teamates fail to finish off their opportunities, perhaps it is more that they are not good enough?

Interestingly as a side note...Bale has converted 58% of the clear-cut chances his teamates have created for him in the league. His conversion ratio is actually better than Van Persie or Suarez.

Yep, the same can be said for Dempsey. Spurs has a team of selfish attacking players, they all want the glory for themselves, Defoe is the worst for this I think.

Pretty impressive. He was nonexistent all day, then said to himself, "feck it, let's get this over with" and smashed one in.

That's the sign of a great player.

In the posted gif, it was clear that his teammates don't have a single clue as to what to do. If the ball had rebounded off a defenders leg inside the box when it was going to go in, I would be well angry. You have a chance to score and your team mates stand around like stuffed dummies. The fact that they didn't move outwards made the defenders job so much easier since, they didn't even have to concentrate on the others. If he should come to us, I am certain the likes of RVP, Rooney or even Welbeck would create the space and drag the defenders all over the place.

more of a 07/08 Ronaldo than the 06/07 one.

A lot of his goals have come from dribbles from deep which is reminiscent of 06/07 but Bale's managed to score the same amount in 11 less games and over 100 less shots.

The sign of a great player indeed.

That's more or less what Zidane did on that glorious July day in 1998 v Brasil, except that Zidane was phenomenal throughout the game. But he took the opposing team's scrotum in his mouth and bit into it as hard as he could, leaving his opponent prostrate, helpless and asking themselves "What the feck just happened to me?"

Bale just might work his way into the immortals of the game. But it's not going to happen if he stays a Spurs man for the next 4-6 seasons. He has to make his move this summer, whether it's to Real or United or a club of similar stature.

Bale has been given more freedom this season than Ronaldo was in 2006/07 imo, where he was still more of a pure winger if you like. My recollection of 06/07 Ronaldo is that he was ever-present in our general play, consistently entertaining audience with his skills. I've watched about 10 Spurs' league games this season and in virtually every game, he wasn't sort of a player that gets you off your sit most of the time. The thing is, in each and every one of those games he could eventually do something extraordinary to win or turn it around.

That would be more of a 07/08 Ronaldo, for me anyway.

8 - Gareth Bale has scored more goals from outside the box than any other player in the top five Euro leagues this season (8). Blast.

He really is stupidly good at striking a ball from range.

He's given more freedom than just about any player you'll ever see, because the rest of Spurs' attackers are shite. He'll score less goals in a better team, because he'd never be allowed to be as selfish as he is at Spurs. Imagine if he actually does go to Real while Ronaldo is still there and plays the same way he does now. Ronnie would probably have him killed.

Yep, here's a clip of his 97/98 season. Bale doesn't have that kind of vision.

Immortals of the game?

Apparently, you're unfamiliar with the phrase.:lol:

Basically, the idea behind this phrase is the sense that some footballers' names will be known forever, possibly many centuries from now (somewhat like the fame Da Vinci or Newton enjoy even to this day). Pele and Maradona are two names that come instantly to mind, names that will a centuries from now, long after our cold ashes have been scattered somewhere in the North Sea, or in my case, the San Francisco Bay, be spoken of with a sense of awe.

De Stefano, Yashin, Beckenbauer, Cruyff, Best, Zidane, Messi...hopefully you get the idea now.

I doubt Bale will reach that level of fame, but he's off a very good start.
