Disagree completely. If 9/10 seasons Dave's team started off badly then its more than a simple coincidence its a pattern in his management. Just because he's moved up a tier in club management doesn't mean you can't still analyse what he did at Everton. All you're doing is making excuses for one of his weakness' in management. Whether that weakness carries over to United is up for debate and we'll see in 5/6 games time whether its a valid argument or not.
I'm not making excuses for anything specific. I didn't even read the argument you two were having. I'm just saying that while yes, you can analyse his time at Everton, it's a mistake to draw any serious conclusions from it about how he'll be at United.
The 'starts seasons badly' example is a telling one, though. The clear reason that Everton often started poorly when Moyes was there was that again and again they would lose their best player just before the start of the season, without ever having had the funds to secure a replacement. Everyone knows that, it's been one of the truisms about Everton for years. Lose best player, have a correspondingly shit start to the season. Lescott, Cahill, Arteta... Obviously that shouldn't be something he has to contend with at United.
