Liverpool vs. Man United

Assuming Skrtel is fit I don't see us necessarily being that weaker as it's just him in for Toure.
Cissokho wouldn't have started anyway and neither would Coates of course.

My Liverpool supporting workmate said today that both Toure and Skrtel are injured and he predicts neither will play on Sunday. Is that not the case?

Liverpool have played some good attacking football in their first two games but they don't take enough of their chances.

I think we'll set up with the same team as Monday, Cleverley and Carrick will sit deep, the two defensive wingers will stifle Coutinho and the other mush, and we'll look to RvP for a bit of magic.

Didn't see their game vs Stoke, but the Villa vs Liverpool game had about as many chances as the United vs Chelsea game!

If we set up the same way as against Chelsea, with Clev sticking in a deeper role then could be quite good to see Kagawa coming in for Welbeck. Welbeck had an important role but I don't think Liverpool are so strong that we can't use Kagawa tucking in from the left. Depends how he's looking in training I guess. Would expect the rest of the team to remain the same unless Nani is fit and looking as sharp as he was in that pre-season game, but tbf Valencia will be needed for his extra defensive protection.

How we lined up at Anfield last season:
Lindegaard - Rafael (Welbeck - '89), Ferdinand, Evans, Evra - Valencia, Giggs, Carrick, Nani (Scholes - '46) - Kagawa (Hernandez - '81), van Persie

Can't see Moyes breaking up the Ferdinand-Vidic partnership and I'm guessing that de Gea, Jones as well as Evra will keep their place as will Carrick & Cleverley. Would like Kagawa to come in for Welbeck so I could see us play:
De Gea - Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra - Carrick, Cleverley - Valencia, Rooney, Kagawa - van Persie

We haven't heard on Toure yet but it looks like he will be out for a while, my understanding is Skrtel will be fit.
Suppose you could argue not 'match fit' but as it stands I think he might play.
I really think we will sign someone else, but whether whoever that is plays form the start is highly unlikely I suppose.

Talk of a friendly game played today that might have featured Skrtel and Kelly trying to I assume get them closer to full fitness.

How Liverpool lined up last season:

  • 25 Reina Booked
  • 02 Johnson
  • 05 Agger (Carragher - 80' )
  • 34 Kelly
  • 37 Skrtel
  • 08 Gerrard
  • 24 Allen
  • 31 Sterling (Henderson - 66' )
  • 33 Shelvey Dismissed
  • 07 Suarez
  • 29 Borini (Suso - 46' )
This season likely to be:
Mignloet
Johnson
Agger
Skrtel
Enrique
Gerrard
Lucas
Aspas
Henderson
Coutinho
Sturridge
I definitely think it's a stronger team than last year with Sterling to make an appearance.(as well as the fact we were playing with ten men for the whole match) Whether it's enough to do the business or not is another story.

That was a banter prediction, if you read further my actual predictioon was this. Then again later in the thread. Ok score wasnt right but draw was my actual settled prediciton, 1-3 was just to get the mouths watering.

Yea posting various different predictions in the matchday thread, hey anyone would end up getting an actual prediction! And who's nude pics are you going to want to post next? Last season it was your "wife". This season it's your "girlfriend". Please don't tell us it's going to yourself and Susan Boyle in a naked embrace next?

Robert's 'girlfriend' is a webcam, apparently.

Both the back 3 of De Gea, Ferdinand, Vidic and front 2 of Rooney, Van Persie are easily the best in the league. It's the part in between that is uncertain.

It'd be a big boost if we had Hernandez and Nani back on the bench for this. I wonder how close they are now.

Even after that, most people didn't want to warm to Berbatov. Feel bad for him.

Hope Moyes sets the team out for a win and we go for it not the settling for a draw shit we saw on Monday.

3-1 win

Adamant that we should start the same 11 that played Chelsea, or at least close to it. It'll probably be a shit game for the most-part with Liverpool pressing hard early on (which is why I'd still go with Valencia and Welbeck to start). As long as Liverpool don't score early, I think we'll take the win this time in the second half. Got a good feeling about facing Liverpool for once. As long as we can bring on players like Nani, Zaha, Kagawa, Giggs, or Hernandez in some combination then I'd really fancy us to bag two late goals. Think we can shut them out as well, 0-2.

They've done well to get the two wins and played some decent football. But at the same time, on another day they'd have drawn both of those games and they needed pretty special strikes each time to beat the likes of Stoke and Villa who should be well beneath them.

Konchesky . What were they thinking.

By "they" you mean:

This game has been so under hyped compared to usual United-Liverpool games, usually the season is well warmed up before this fixture but this time it's at the very start. 5 pages on this game is surprising.

I hope Moyes will be more adventurous with this fixture than Fergie was with this squad(like 5 years or so).. Start with RVP and Rooney and support them with 2 midfielders and they don't know how to handle us..

Hopefully the lack of hype helps us somewhat. Your players always turn into men possessed in this fixture.

I called the Chelsea game correctly and I am calling this one another draw.

Cant see Liverpool winning 3 in a row, but they rarely lose to United at Anfield, and raise their game immensely. 1-1.

I think it will be another 'rare' United win, by at least a 2 goal margin.

Five wins in the last ten away matches means little considering 4 of those 5 wins were 2007 and earlier-also using bullshit stats to prove your argument is very RAWKy... Also, in none of those wins did United win by any more than a one goal margin so why do you think you will will win by 'at least' a 2 goal margin?

Liverpool have a shit defence.

I never used those stats for the reason's why I thought United will win by 2 clear goals. You have clearly jumped the gun. I quoted the stats in response to a webcam rob, who I also quoted, stated that United rarely win at Anfield which I'm sure you will agree is incorrect. My prediction has nothing to do with the stats. I've already replied to you the reason why I predict United will beat Liverpool by 2 clear goals in post 139. You have clearly suffered some kind of memory loss.

Fergie regularly selected very adventurous line-ups at Anfield, only to get beat. He couldn't seem to get the idea of starting Carrick and Scholes together at Anfield in a midfield two out of his head, for some reason he thought that was a wonderful idea even though it always worked out the same way in the last few years: they pressed us hard, outrun and outfought us and stuffed us.

Any chance of Rafael being back? He's had some good gamed against Liverpool. Jones is a decent fill-in defensively but not a real full-back and certainly no substitute for Rafa.
