Mesut Özil

He was good, nothing overly special though.

Nothing overly special? Come on, now. If he would have be a United player, people would cream themselves on here.

He joined them a week ago and already took over their midfield, directing nearly every dangerous scene. If Walcott would not have bottled all of his huge chances, Özil could have ended the game with at least 3 assists. This was a phenomenal debut and I say that as someone (like many Germans), who is normally pretty critical of him.

The standard Ozil performance. Lots of created chances, without looking like he had to put much effort in. But really made great runs all game

You think that was overly special and phenomenal? Meh, you must have low standards.

Januzaj and Eriksenn equally as impressive as Ozil today, if not more.

Great debut but easy to counter that Arsenal plays the sort of system that makes the transition smoother for a player of his talent. Gooner nation will be well chuffed at his debut

He's capable of 15-20 assists per season in the league alone. If he stays in this league long enough, he could potentially beat the record for most Premier League assists.

The guy is a superstar. Arsene Wenger is a modern day Odysseus. We have been standing at the walls of Troy for ten years, watching our comrades desert and die whilst the treasures of what lies within those hallowed gates have eluded us.

Ozil is the wooden horse. He's the game-changer. The fire that will raze those walls to the ground, and allow us to plunder the trophies they have been guarding.

My God what a player.

You do realise you had the likes of van Persie and Fabregas throughout most of your barren trophyless run?

I see you just received your RAWK certification of poetry. Well done man !

Positively Homerian

Ffs, imagine the arrogance if they do actually win a trophy

When everything is going shit for them I have the tendency to not appreciate it as much as I should, as I respect them a lot as a club. It's only when they are doing well that you realise what a bunch of annoying cnuts a large portion of their fans are.

Am I the only one who thought that Özil both looked slow and sloppy today? He will be great for them, but any team with the likes of Arse PIG, Sagna, Gibbs and Mertesacker as a part of their starting XI will never challenge for the title.

Great debut though.

I cannot wait to see him, Cazorla and Wilshere linking up.

Low standarts? No. But I´m able to somewhat rate the amount of skill both in terms of passing (speed, accuracy, range) and vision it takes to make such a huge impact on a game, including seven or eight key passes, on a team he knows for a week.

I have not seen the Spurs game today, so I can´t judge Eriksen´s performance. From what I heard it was indeed really good.

Januzaj had a good debut, but he can´t be judged by the same standarts as Özil or Eriksen. That would be immensively harsh on the lad.

If that was 'phenomenal', you're better get your dictionary out trying to describe his performances when he's actually at his very best. He was good today, nothing overly special though, I stand by that.

His debut stats, for those interested:

3 chances created
1 assist
71/79 passes completed
34/38 passes completed in the final 3rd
2/3 throughballs

Pretty nice for his debut game, and with a stomach bug.

Of course he will become even better, that is natural, but what you seemingly fail to grasp in my argument is, that I´m not only talking about the performance alone, but also the circumstances of the game.

Why the hell do you think does every half decent coach points out, how important the pre season is for new players to get to know their new team? Today he was on the pitch with players he can´t really know yet, because a week is way too short for that. And yet he was put in a really integral role and expected to direct the game, which he did very well. This is, what makes his performance today anything but normal.

I don´t care, if you call it phenomenal, outstanding, extra ordinary, special or whatever.

I expected at least that from him, because I know how good a player he is. That was a good performance, nothing overly special, and yes I say that taking all things into consideration.

Dunno what all this Ozil fuss is about.

Fellaini had a great header at one point and a great diagonal pass across the pitch to Fabio. The afro looked beautifully trimmed and washed too.

Fellaini also comes across as a far better muslim. You really feel the emotion when he looks up to the sky.
