We needed fresh blood in the middle, someone who can compete and play the ball. It was an easy debut but then again, he's played in the premiership for 5 years. He was playing in front of a big crowd and didn't do anything wrong. In time he will also get better, but that's like saying he's got hair on his head

Dude, our group ain't anything like what City faced and we have a massive collective experience. Fellaini would be the least of my worries going into the CL this season.

The group certainly isn't piss easy but we should manage top two in it which I'll be delighted with.
Well, no, not a concern, I just think it will be a test is all, we don't have an overly difficult group but it is uncharted territory for him, which is why I'm looking forward to seeing how he copes. Like I said, he's got grit that we've been missing in midfield for a while now and that's an invaluable trait in the CL.
Actually, won a tackle. Both Carrick and Anderson won 2, but were also on the pitch more than twice as long as he was.
Carrick made 10 interceptions(!!) which is a huge amount, way more than he normally makes and way more than anyone normally makes. Anderson 1, Fellaini 1
Fellaini made two interceptions that I can rememver off the top of my head. Where are those stats from? I also think me made more tackles.
It's kind of hard to rack up tackles/interceptions in a 30 minute spell where we had nearly all the possession. Carrick was like some kind of freak show in the first half.
Maybe it was just me, but as soon as Fellaini came on our front 4 seemed to have a lot more freedom and we created more chances.
It seemed to allow Rooney to come back a bit and find more space between their midfield and defense. More clubs seem to be playing with 2 deep CM's to allow more freedom in the final third now.
That said, I don't want to get carried away by one appearance. Good start though.

what i liked was a few times Carrick was telling to pass sideways to the easy option but Fellaini was instead passing more direct forward through the channells
The freedom came with Januzaj. Was also nice to have a midfielder better than Anderson there
Well, no, not really. They faced Bayern and Real Madrid, with Napoli and Dortmund thrown in. None of the teams in our group are as strong as these four.

I love the optimism here. He had a decent debut i.e. kept to basics and did not do goof a thing up, which is again diluted considering we are agaisnt a 10 man Palace.
I thought Januzaj had a better impact on the game than Fellaini, tbf. Calling it spectacular or exciting or horrible based on that performance is just too hasty. City derby would be a better scale to judge.

He had a solid debut. Of course it helped that we were playing home vs 10 man Palace but that's neither here nor there. Impressed by him so far. Yes, I will admit I wasn't too excited about us signing him as I've never really focused on Everton matches other than the ones we played vs them and then he used to play as a second striker. So I have not really seen him at his preferred role in CM. Good to see he's not scared to play the long ball nor the killer through ball pass if needed. Yaya vs Fella will be exciting no doubt.

Don't know, but it's nice to hear Anderson is doing twice the training of everyone else.
Fellaini: "Everton was a great club for me with great teammates. I respect the fans but it is time for me to leave and join a big cub. I want to play midfield defensive and if I can help the team further forward then good. Training is quicker than at Everton but I'm happy. he quality is better than Everton but Everton are a great club as well...

On the contrary I actually find it reassuring that he can't just come from Everton and instantly adapt to our training sessions, just shows that there are different levels involved in something as seemingly straight forward as training sessions.
I give him about two weeks to adapt to the extra intensity and he'll be fine as he's a pretty fit player in the first place just possibly hasn't quite adapted to the kind of mental sharpness needed for the sessions.

Not really. The only surprising thing I took from that article is that Ashley Young can hang with that group of players in training, I would've expected him to be in the second group.
Hope he plays tonight, needs more time with the team to get into Beast-mode and fire us up against City.

I really don't think we've had someone like him since Keane. In the game tonight he won the ball quite a lot and protected the back 4. At times we really dominated possession and looked more assured maybe knowing that Fellaini was there to keep things tight at the back. So far, very impressed.
I wonder how long it'll take Siorac to admit calling Fellaini a pure destroyer is complete nonsense...
