Would be nice to see Zaha and Janujaz, not as if Young/Val is setting the world alight and I think these two are highly underrated. In the middle, I'd like to see Ando as I think he needs as much game time as possible to show to Moyes straight away that he wants to stake a claim in midfield and his energy against the slick passing Germans could be exactly that. It'd also be nice to see Fabio rewarded with another appearance and Hernandez make a deserved start..

He'll never start adnan and zaha on his first champs league match!

This is going to be really tough. i can see them being hard to break down, and ready to hurt United on the break. Nani will be missed.

I expect them to be our toughest test of the season so far tbh. Chelsea were happy for a point, I think Leverkusen will give us a real go, it's going to be an enjoyable game.

No, I didn't say likely line up, just my preferred... Likely I would go with...

Welbeck/Jones/Rafael injured

I’m Sure Cleverly/ Zaha and Hernandez will come at some point and get minutes if it’s going well

Why have you omitted Rooney and RVP in your preferred line-up?

Not because they aren't part of the best XI, more the fact they don't 'need' games I suppose.... a draw here and I'd be happy... especially if we (as expected) go on to serve up the smaller group teams... Mind you, I realise you should probably start strong and finish slower (If you have afforded it by then)... However, I don't feel against a team like BL, that Kagawa should be on the bench, even for Rooney, he'll be our main man in my eyes if he plays as he should know the Germans better than anyone.
Can we add "Nani is Suspended" to the topic title?

Apologies, I did miss that... thanks.

For those who don't know/have missed, Januzaj is not in our CL squad. Although as a B list player he can be added to squad a day prior but don't think he will be considered for tomorrow. Definitely will be playing in youth league tomorrow.

Think it'll be a really exciting game tomorrow - Leverkusen have made a good start to the season and have some good attacking players like Sam and Kießling... will easily be the best outing to OT so far this season I reckon.

de Gea
Fabio - - Smalling - - Evans - - Buttner
Anderson - - Fellaini
Zaha - - Kagawa - - Nani
Hernandez

Why would you have Buttner? Evra can recover easily for Manchester derby and there are 5 days to do so. If at all we have to rest Evra, it is better to put Fabio at LB and Smalling at RB if Jones/Rafael are not match fit, than having Buttner at LB for such crucial game.
What wrong have RvP and Rooney done to not play? Again, Manchester derby is 5 days away and season has just started.
We need best players to be playing early, get the required points and if qualification is secured, experiment in last 1-2 games of group stage.
Nani is suspended as well.

The squad you have put up, I will have vs Liverpool in CC replacing Kagawa, Fellaini and De Gea with Januzaj, Cleverley and Lindegaard.

I will go for:
de Gea
Fabio(Rafael if fit) - - Vidic - - Evans - - Evra
Carrick - - Fellaini
Valencia - - Rooney - - Kagawa
RvP

I think getting 3 points in this game is essential for our qualifying chances. We have to get maximum points at home, so any suggestion of resting players is mental tbh. Put out our strongest side.

Yeah, I agree. I'm really surprised by quite a few posts suggesting to rest players for a game 5 days later. 5 days is more than enough time for regeneration and Leverkusen is right now the 3rd best team in Germany and very tough to beat. They are the only team that beat Bayern in the league last season and loosing the game or even a draw would make that CL group incredible difficult. There's no way the club should take a risk, play the strongest side.

Not starting United's best 2 attackers against the best side in the group?

Moyes on Rooney:
"I felt he tired a little bit in the second half but I spoke to him and said: 'Look, we'll get you 90 minutes' because of his lack of match practice to help him towards the overall goal of getting back to match sharpness and match fitness.

What team in United's group would you call small? I'd say that's a group with one 1st tier and three 2nd tier teams and all 3 are hard to beat. Drawing at home in the first game puts a lot of pressure on the team.

I've the utmost confidence in our second string and would rest the others with the City game in mind. It didn't occur to me that Nani was suspended.

A draw would be an awful result. It's highly important that we win our home games, especially in a group like this.

From previous experience, when we have done wholesale changes, they haven't paid off. Bayer are good team and with the match being home game and 5 days in between till Manchester derby, recovery won't be a problem. It is possible though that one of Rooney and RvP is benched for this and Hernandez starts, but I don't see us changing a lot other than that.

I think desperation to have certain/or favourite players start, means all perspective is lost.

It's completely irrational but this really irritates me.

I think the first home win is vital and Moyes wont deviate too much from who he has been using.

I think he'll play Giggs instead of Young.

Could be, but Valencia played the whole of the CP match and had to travel. Reckon there's a good chance that it will be Young right and Giggs left or swapped flanks like against City. Will be interesting to see who starts upfront, we'll want a good start but Hernandez could do with a start as well.

That's probably a bit too weak for some. If Nani is healthy I'd rather he started, and if Rooney can also play 90 against City then put him in for Giggs and move Welbeck wide.

Any team news? Is Rafael back for this one?

Seems like he could be involved tomorrow:

We need to play a very strong side. Maybe the strongest we can put out. This is his first Champions League match, so it would be very prudent to make a good showing of it. Not that I think we'll struggle to get out of the group in any case, but we've had our bad moments the last few years. No point in taking any chances.
