Manchester United Vs Bayer Leverkusen

Keano reckons Leverkusen "controlled the game in a sense". What has he been smoking?

He's a terrible pundit, and if that's his genuine belief then it's no wonder he was such a terrible manager. We have completely dominated any meaningful possession. It's the modern day CL so of course the opposition will have the ball but we have totally controlled them.

Not been a bad half, we just need to be slightly more sure with our passing. Valencia looks quite lively and Rooney has been sharp. Fellaini is offering excellant cover in front of the back four.

The only niggle I have is the gaps Evra is leaving behind him, needs to stop.

Fellaini is what he is. A big lump who will win his fair share of tackles and any aerial battles. Will keep it simple when he is on the ball because he lacks the touch of class when in possession.

Fellaini started very well but was pretty bad after the half an hour mark. Good overall. Hopefully more of the former in the second half.

Can blame Kagawa slightly for that too, but understandable really. It was only a small problem once.

What's with RvP's temperament? Does it have something to do with Rooney being back?

What the feck is wrong with ITV? They are acting like we have been shit.

That is this years narrative, be it the BBC, Mirror, ITV or whomever, despite this team walking the league last year, this year they just are not good enough.

They will keep it up all season no matter how we play, unless we amass a 10+ point lead in the league or batter barca 6-0 or something, because whilst journalists tend to write about what they see, the media likes to define a narrative to tell us what to think.

And we now have very, very few journalists, and a shit ton of media.

Its teh same reason Chelsea are the second coming despite being a bit shit for most of their games this season, the narrative of Moyes and Maureen has already been written and must be carried on.

I love the security Fellaini brings, if he could stop giving the ball away he'll be a fantastic signing. I thought the Chelsea and Palace games led to Rooney getting ridiculous praise, he was good in them, but no more, but tonight he's been exceptional. I'm not sure where this pace has come from but I like it.

The widely held belief that his pace was gone seems well wide of the mark. Thank God he didnt go to Chelsea. He would really make them a great attacking force.

yet i don't know what he brings to the table. He was very good in the oppening 10 minutes and then gone AWOL.

Well so far he's brought, lots of touches/being involved and 3 interceptions - the most out of everyone on the pitch. I can see why you aren't convinced but he's probably done his part. Just using him as a second Carrick is clearly not the most effective way to deploy him and you wonder if £27 million couldnt have bought us a bit more cleverness through the middle in the final third. Because we're still 99% about passing the ball onto the wings and letting the wide players create everything

I'm really disappointed by Leverkusen tbh. United plays well, but Leverkusen is capable of more, especially their passing is horrible at times.
Maybe they are a bit afraid by the big stage, their team isn't that experienced after all.

I love how Fellaini doesn't run when he nicks the ball off opposition players. Just goes non-chalant and takes the ball, you think "Nah, you're never getting that", but he gets it.

Not sure about that Rooney has looked brilliant dropping off in the hole. If we can keep slipping passes through to him thats as good a threat as any ball out wide.

Fellaini has been good, the midfield looks far more solid and there is a better balance to the side than when Clev or Anderson plays.

Valencia trying to kill RvP with a cross.

United have had a fair amount of possession without doing a great deal with it. Some of the interplay has been sharp but a lot of the general passing and movement has been slightly disjointed and pedestrian. Early goal in the second half needed.
