Manchester City vs. Manchester United

Beaten them twice out of the last 3 at the Etihad. Let's hope it's one of those performances, rather than that soulless 1-0 defeat where we turned up to park the bus.

Rooney being on massive form will hopefully have a huge impact.

glad to see you have confidence in your team.

Well, support does not necessarily mean I need to have confidence in the team to beat anyone and everyone. I'm not sure that we'll travel too well this season to top clubs.

It's not easy for them either though, surely?

Yes. And just like us,they haven't had the most convincing start to the season. Hence, I'm going for a home win. If it were OT, I'd have gone for United edging it.

While I believe both managers and teams really want a win here to be top of the league after six games (who would have thought United could be top of the league after six games given our fixtures?) it's one of those where they'd both happily take the draw and concentrate on the next run of games before the internationals. I wouldn't go as far to say either would bite your hand off for the draw, but they'd take it for sure. I probably would too.

I'm still edging toward a 1-1 where the game isn't that exciting (it usually isn't at their place), but we're due giving them a thumping and I also have an inkling we could end up brushing them aside if we can put some counter attacks together like the one against Leverkusen.

At the Etihad, other than last season's 2-3 win for us in stoppage time, the six League Games there have had the results 1-0, 0-0, 0-1, 0-1, 1-0, 0-1. 10 goals in the last seven matches, compared to 29 in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford. It should all point toward a 0-0, 1-0 either way, or finally a 1-1 draw again which hasn't occurred in this fixture at City's ground since 1993.

So, obviously after all that useless information, United to nick it 1-2 :D

My City supporting friend has put a bet on United to win 0-4... Not sure why

Because he's as idiot.

Interesting stats though.

I'd start with a front four of

Nani - Kagawa - Rooney

-------- RvP ----------

4-0 win

4-0 win

Given Rooney's form behind RVP at the minute I don't see the sense in shifting him out wide. Also, Kagawa has thus far done nothing to suggest he deserves the #10 spot in the biggest game of the season so far.

Front four for me should be:

Valencia---Rooney---Nani
RVP

Valencia is confident and in games where we need wingers to track back he'd be great. Nani for me has improved his tracking back over the years, and I think would leave us less open than Kagawa who tends to drift and sometimes leaves Evra isolated for a bit

De Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Fellaini
Valencia - Rooney - Nani
RVP

Think it will be a draw, a win would obviously be fantastic, would have biten your hand off for if offered 10 points after our horrible five opening fixtures.

Can't see Rafael and Nani being thrown into such a huge fixture. More likely to see either Smalling or Fabio at RB and Young or Giggs on the left.

Smalling or Fabio would be fine, and I could also bear seeing Young who has been decent bar the diving, but Giggs should be nowhere near the squad for this game, let alone start it. Doesn't mean I'll be surprised if he does actually start...

It's amazing how much more solid we feel in the middle with The Afro'd One amongst us

He's gonna be a hero for us

I was saying to a lad last night how I thought that after all the shit or doubts surrounding the signing of him from both Utd and opposition fans that he'll end up being the premier league signing of the summer yet.

Chelsea, Liverpool and City in the first five. If we lose today then we will only have 1pt from those 3, which is not good enough IMO. feck the draw too, we need to go out and get that win!

Yeah, City havent looked that great, play like we did vs Leverkusen and we'll win.

Strong rumors that RvP is out with a groin strain for feck sake.

Kagawa in behind Rooney wouldn't be a disaster.

Interesting fact: Hernández has played just over 100 minutes in 3 seasons against City, never starting or scoring against them.

Agreed still waiting for that stellar performance from Kags

And he wouldn't be a bad choice today (Hernández, I mean); City were very vulnerable on the break against Hull City in particular though they'll probably be more cautious this time and won't defend with such a high line. Still, he could cause them problems.

Right enough, if they do play that high line this game could be a lot of fun. I really don't care all that much about the result as long as it's not another mindnumbingly dull big game.

This is where the rumor started. I wouldn't worry too much for now.

Instead of going OTT, can we establish where these 'rumours' are coming from? I don't see anything about this injury anywhere.
Probably twitter. Haven't heard anything from a credible journo.

In that Keown side I'd swap Aguero and Fellaini for Nani and Silva. No use having such a wealth of talent without any sort of width.

One twat on Twitter makes some nonsense up.

I've heard stronger rumours.

We should bring back those waves of gobshites who were claiming to be ITK for a few months there. Then pitch them against each other until only one remains standing. Then we kill him with bricks and fire.
