Manchester United vs. Liverpool

Ah see that's what I was worried about, we'd play some unbalanced midfield as we've seen plenty of times in the past in this competition and it means it's hard for anyone to do well as the balance just isn't there. Why does Clev need a rest? Ando? Oh well will have to see how it goes.

Rooney as captain? That kind of thing worked so well for Arsenal...

Really though, if you are looking at midfield partnerships in the premier league a 2 of Giggs - Jones has to be one of if not the worst.

That line up pisses me off under the circumstances - we play shit thanks to the preposterous Giggs-Jones midfield, so Moyes learns his lesson / proves the critics wrong and doesn't play Nani or Kagawa again for another year.

Before people go into meltdown, I'd expect Rooney in there around the midfield and Kagawa obviously dropping in there too. It won't be a basic two in the middle of Jones/Giggs.

Yeah but that doesn't work if Giggs/Jones go awol which they tend to do in midfield, particularly central midfield.

As others have said, It really is like SAF's still in charge. That midfield really is hilarious and we're certain to get overrun.

I'd hope so or we will get overrun!Gutted I can't see this and have to follow on text commentary

Why cant you see it? NEed a stream?

A centre back and a 40 year old winger is not something one of the world's top clubs should be fielding.

You know what would frustrate me? The Giggs-Jones CM parternship gets predictably overrun, Kagawa getting subbed off for someone like Welbeck and Rooney dropping deep. We have actual midfielders, use them!

Can someone post how they expect United to line up? Kagawa out wide? or at the tip of a midfield three?

Has Moyes got one team selection right this season?

Where the hell is Cleverley? Not like he played 90 minutes the other day. Also Anderson?

Bench? Hopefully Januzaj will get some time, and Zaha too if he's on the bench, though Moyes appears to be allergic to him.

Jones and Giggs, where's that thread about managers not seeing stuff everyone else can see.....

Well we wont win the game but at least Evans, Nani, Kagawa and Chicho get a chance ahead of the below parers.

The defense is going to have a tough time, though I'm glad Smalling and Evans are getting some game time. I'd much rather have Fabio at left back. The center midfield is just ridiculous. I like the rest of the team though. Hopefully Carrick comes on early to steady things.

This is also what I fear.

I just can't understand what he's going for here.

That's what I said pre-match, we play a team with players out of position that doesn't allow anyone to properly show what they can do. Gonna be very hard to dominate in the middle with that team. Have to hope for the best but we've seen how the midfield works plenty of times. Left side is pretty lacking defensively as well for the midfield we're playing.

Amos, Fabio, Anderson, Carrick, Zaha, Januzaj, Welbeck

Probably Hernandez up top, Rooney behind, Nani right and Kagawa left

#mufcteam v #lfc: De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Smalling, Buttner, Nani, Jones, Giggs, Kagawa, Rooney, Hernandez

Wait, that's real?

I never do this pre-match - but FFS! Jones and Giggs in midfield?? Really??? I mean one is a winger and the other is a centre-back, and they're starting in central-midfield? Against what is apparently a "passing" and "possession" side? In front of a heavily rotated back four?!

Good to see Rafael, Evans and Nani back, as well Rooney and Hernandez starting together again. Let's hope this is the start of something for Kagawa.

Should be a highscoring game then. Creativity for United and two good finishers. Shame your defence is going to be brutally exposed due to not actually having a central midfield and rustyness in defence.

Buttner and Kagawa on 1 flank is going to be hilarious defensively.

Apart from Jones/Giggs, I quite like the line up. Shame Adnan isn't starting.

Are Cleverley and Anderson injuried then, otherwise it is VERY strange they aren't starting, not even on the bench?

I'd imagine it to be something like this:

------------------DDG---------------
--Rafael----Smalling---Evans----Buttman
-----------Jones----Giggs (:wenger:)----------
----Nani---------Rooney--------Kagawa
---------------Hernandez-------------

See that front 4 looks fantastic, and I have few complaints about the defence (except I'm a little perplexed as to why Buttner got the call ahead of Fabio) but god that central midfield, Moyes might as well play Phil Neville there too.

Twitter: "Jones-Giggs CM pair may just be competing with Rafael-Park as the weakest in MUFC's recent history."

He does have a point.

No he doesn't, that's completely fecking spastic. Both Giggs and Jones have acquited themselves well in CM many times for this football club, neither Rafael nor Park literally ever have.

De Gea

Rafael, Evans, Smalling, Buttner

Nani, Giggs, Jones, Kagawa,

Rooney, Hernandez

Rooney and Kagawa will drop and drift centrally, Giggs will play where he wants.

Most likely, only other option is Kagawa plays more cental with Hernandez and Nani wide of Rooney in a 433.
