We were so deep in our own half and Fellaini came on just so De Gea or one of our defenders could lump the ball to him, and let him bring our other attackers into play. That was his job and he did it well enough. So far he seems to make the most impact as a substitute rather than a starter.

Looked slow against a tired Arsenal team. Looked lost as well. He won the balm once or twice. Decent cameo. Didnt expect much from him.
I was happy to see him come on in that role in that situation. Wasn't ideal but as little as it was, I think it will be a little condifence boost for him.
This is his purpose. He'll do well for us in this role off the bench when we need to change our play. Doubt he'll ever be a starter.
I'm not sure what, if any, grand conclusions can be made about a 5 minute substitute apperance where not a lot happened.
None. It's just an example of a situation where he was a handy player to have at our disposal.

As Tomuś said, it is a common urge to have a go at him for some people.
Came on at a time when we were clearing a lot of balls out of the box and having him there allowed us to recover some possession as he got himself on the end of them. Did what he was tasked with really well and I see no reason for criticism. The only thing I would say is that he looks far more comfortable in that role higher up the pitch getting himself on the end of those cleared balls than he ever has in CM imo. Not a bad option to have at the end of those types of games but hopefully he will offer more than that eventually.
He seems to be very slow and at times quite light weight....maybe he just needs 6 months or so to settle in the way we play.
I think you're right. Once Moyes has a better feel for lineups, I'm sure he will incorporate Fellaini back at his best.
Yeah, it was definitely the right way to use him, Moyes got it right and it helped to ease the pressure on the back four somewhat.

He hasn't quite settled and doesn't really seem to fit in. At least not yet.
Yeah, Moyes spent 27.5m on a player he wants to use as an impact sub.
There's nothing wrong with having a different opinion nor is it wrong to say that he hasn't quite settled in yet.
But saying that he's 'lost' even though he's doing things right after a match is one of those cliches like 'Rafael can't defend' and so on.
He did look more comfortable playing higher up the pitch winning headers for Rooney but we didn't buy him to play a role like Caroll or Crouch. His height can be used to our advantage whether winning high balls in the middle, defending corners and attacking corners but we don't need to pump high balls to him so that he can flick it on to the forward, otherwise we really would look like we are playing like stoke.

I'm getting at his little cameo yesterday which was perfectly fine and disciplined. Looked lost? Did he feck. He was good in San Sebastian as well.
Is this really being argued after he played for 5 minutes? I've been as hard on him as anyone, but saying he "looked lost" when he played 5 minutes is fecking retarded. As is arguing that he had a great 5 minutes. He had 5 minutes. Five fecking minutes. If it was anyone else who had been brought on for 5 minutes his performance wouldn't even be mentioned.

True. Though I suspect the scrutiny has more to do with the fact that our £27m signing was left on the bench in favour of playing a CB in midfield and then had another midfielder sent on before him in our biggest game of the season so far.
I don't know if he will ever work out in central midfield, but he certainly looks more comfortable when playing behind the frontman last night, even winning a couple of nod downs
Moyes didnt really have another option in the end than going for him. He cost a lot and there were better options around but imagine Carrick is out for 4 months - at least we have the numbers to make up now.
That to me was the conclusion really. We were looking at five nail-biting minutes and him coming on broke the flow of the game and provided us with a target man to relieve the defence. It just gave us a breather and ran the clock, which is exactly what we needed. Doesn't make him Zidane nor justify the fee, but did what everyone else did: play to a role effectively to keep the oppo in check. Good cameo, well done, move on.
Do yourself a favour and forget the fee. It's not your money. I'd rather what Moyes did to win the game than having played him ahead of those two (one of them a MotM contender) and lost it. He is not thinking about the price tag and justifying it but winning games, maybe you should as well.

Had a good first half for Belgium just now. Had a great cross from the right wing as well from which Benteke should have scored. Maybe Moyes should just put him on the wings 
A few weeks ago, we were all crapping ourselves with the team in general whoever we were playing, even crap teams like Stoke at home!
Now it's business as normal.
Hopefully it'll be a similar story with Fellaini in a few weeks, as it feels slightly farcical when we're getting concerned at a huge price signing coming on in a home game with a few mins left!

They are going to be a good outside bet for the World Cup.
It's strange that people still aren't talking about them as potential winners. Personally I think they could beat anybody on their day, their biggest strength at the World Cup could be other teams underestimating them.
Just checked Fellaini's ratings for the game, he gets a disappointing 5/10. I suppose it's only a friendly, not many players scored higher than him to be fair so it shows that players probably weren't taking it to seriously.
Belgium are 5th favourites with the bookies behind only the obvious 4. Think that's pretty generous for a young team who have never been to a major tournament and will surely struggle with the climate as much as any European Country.

Those four yeah, but obviously England are on a pedestal so far above them that it's silly for the bookies to allow bets.
