Will go down as the biggest club flop. Bigger than Berbatov. He's so bad.

 I love the whole Berbaflop saga. We have a golden boot player yet he was a flop, brilliant.

I said this was a prime game to stamp his authority, but he didn't. I still think it was ok from him and far from the worst performance, amazed some of you aren't in the threads of the players who were much worse, go figure. Also why don't we fecking target him mor eon croners? He is good at heading, and if he finds himself a little space he will get it well on target! Infuriating.

He had a soft-ish header straight at the keeper and one that went straight back in the direction it came from. Sure, he could've scored on either I suppose, but he wasn't even close to so I'm not sure what your point is. Yeah, he did win quite a few headers but that's to be expected (particularly when he was unchallenged for half of them), and that doesn't really excuse him for standing off in many other situations. Fearing the ref might go against him doesn't really excuse him either - going by that logic no defender should challenge for a header then and I don't remember a wrong foul being given against him more than once today.

I don't care if he was better than Cleverley - in my book they were equally shit, and they really don't suit each other. This is, however, the Fellaini thread.

Weird post. You said this

I thought he was supposed to be good in the air at least, but so far he hasn't even shown that - he can't even do the simple stuff (like challenging for headers).

My point was that he won a lot of headers today. In fact he won the most headers out of anyone, for Cardiff or United. Then he also could have scored two goals from headers, particularly the second one which was a great save. Criticising his heading when he was pretty dominant with it seems strange to me.

The difference with defenders challenging for headers in the box is that they weren't repeatedly called up for challenges which weren't fouls. Why would Evans be wary of jumping for a header when has no reason to? The ref gave two or three fouls against Fellaini when it was a fair challenge, so it wouldn't surprise me if that made him think twice before challenging in the box.

I think he brings several qualities to the team. There's no use slagging him off for not dictating play etc as we knew he wasn't about that.

feck me though, his movement off the ball is generally awful.

Was tidy for the most part. You can't blame him today.

I thought he was pretty poor. Every pass he played is either backwards or sideways, he wasn't particularly mobile and his tackling, heading and all-round physicality was below standard.

Some ridiculous comments. He was a long way from being our worst player today, certainly did more and showed more bottle than Cleverley did.
You'd expect him to do more and show more bottle than Cleverley. If our expectations of him are to be as good as Cleverley then that says little about him.

Still looked the best in the 3 man midfield I think. Nothing particular about his play today I feel, agree that he's slow off the ball.

He's gonna have to accept criticism to his heart because right now he's not the same player when we were watching him at Everton.

He will score plenty of goals over the years and I would prefer to have Fellaini on the pitch rather than Anderson any day but I think Moyes is realizing that Fellaini will be no more than then Fletcher role where he will only play when there are injuries or in tough away games as our destroyer when we have to play 3 in midfield.......He simply does not have enough mobility or vision to cement a place in central midfield....30 million for a squad player and a destroyer is a lot of money but he will play his part and score goals in big games for sure when he is given game time

His movement off the ball is actually miraculous to behold. He somehow manages to move towards the action yet get himself in the position where he is totally useless. I couldn't fathom it out.

I think he's stuck in some slow motion time warp... It's like he always thinks the game is moving 10 times slower then it actually is

If there was one thing I could change about him it would be this, he really does need to get quicker and fitter. If he could press quickly he would be such a great asset in defence, but right now he can be far too cumbersome when trying to win the ball.

He passed it forward when he had the options to, very often though our players we marked or not making themselves available, hence the number of long balls from the back. I thought that was fairly obvious.

I prefer a fit Anderson any day of the week at this point.

Obviously you would, yes, but Cleverley has been here years now and Fellaini has just arrived, he was also surrounded by, to put it bluntly, mediocrity in that midfield.

He's a turd of a footballer, has the speed of a Russian tank and packs a punch like Audley Harrisson!!!

No idea if it's got something to do with his size, maybe looking for a cheap excuse here, I don't know. All I know is that the ref was unfair on him as feck today, the first 3-4 fouls were no fouls and yet he gave him a warning. Such thing is always going to be discouraging especially if you have a red card from Sociedad match in the back your head.

Oh, and people who are asking for Anderson have really, really short memory but don't worry, I suppose it will be refreshed on wednesday. Just bite a pillow then because we'll be going as hard.

Fletcher was much more than that, you're strangely underrating him.

At this rate we will be asking Mike Phelan to don his famous shorts cuz anyone who can move quicker than a snail is better than him.

If Cleverley has been here for longer, Fellaini is a much more experienced and proven player. He just looks a bit ordinary right now. He's just a passenger for most games with little fouls and sideways passes breaking tide.

Cleverley is still a better footballer than him. And also offers more to us than Fellaini ever will.

Waste of money. Our third highest signing as well if I'm not mistaken. Pathetic.

Has Fellaini ever looked top class in the defensive midfield role? His outstanding performances at Everton came from behind the striker. That's where he was always so difficult to play against when we played Everton. He's had some great games for Belgiumin the middle, but I don't think I've seen him against strong opposition for the national team.

He's obviously not going to displace Rooney in the hole. I don't think he has the mobility and work rate to be a defensive midfielder. For a man his size, he's losing alot of physical battles for us so far. Though, to be fair to him, he very rarely gets the 50/50 decision, if ever. He either loses the ball, or concedes the foul, which alot of the time is no fault of his own.

For all the ridiculous scapegoating from the usual suspects, we're really going to miss him against Leverkusen.
But I guess the posters saying Anderson is better will have their day...

I've tried to refrain from saying this but I can't any longer. He will NEVER be a United regular that is for sure. At the time we had interest I said we shouldn't sign him for the simple fact I don't think he's good enough to be a starter for us and he hasn't done a single thing to change my mind. And no this isn't one of those things where I'm trying to say I told you so because I would rather be wrong and Fellaini turn out to be brilliant help us on the way. But I never saw it and I still can't see it.
People starting suggesting him to sign for us when they saw him on MOTD, playing as an attacking mid, scoring goals for Everton. While he was playing as a defensive mid for them hardly anyone called for us to sign him. Not worth more than £17m if I'm being honest. This isn't knee-jerk but he's only good enough to be a squad player nothing more. I'm pretty sure he'll go down as a flop.

Oh feck... I forgot he's suspended.

fecking Anderson.

Not really. Clev is incredibly useless these days.

And yet he's probably passed the ball forward more times in two games than Fellaini has all season.

Cleverley is also younger than him and has started less in the league, while Fellaini has been a starter for a few years now.
