Heh. Adnan isn't even on the bench for this game. Highlights his importance to Moyes.

Valencia, Welbeck, Young... not a front three that screams goals. Stoke are quite crap though so we should nick this.

It might not be the strongest set of attacking players we have, but all three are capable of creating and scoring goals relative to the opposition and the extra man in midfield might give us more balance and control of the game. There's plenty of energy and industry in the middle(which is not that common for United these days) and enough ability in there for us to not get over run in the middle and take control of the game. Obviously a lot of players in the team who have not played much or had indifferent seasons so it could go wrong but I'm interested in Anderson and Cleverley playing in a 3 man midfield. I think it suits them much more than playing in a 2 man midfield.

Hopefully Fletch can get another half hour or so tonight.

Does it look like Stoke are not playing their first 11?

Starting XI vs Man Utd: Sorensen; Cameron, Shawcross (c), Wilson, Pieters; Walters, Palacios, Ireland, Whelan, Assaidi; Crouch

No Begovic, Arnautovic, Pennant or Adam in the first 11. Although I don't actually know if they are the first team.

I got no problems with United playing close to a first choice defence, minus Evra, because it has been such a huge weakness this season we need to get solidity back and the best way to do that is continuity and clean sheets. I think Fergie would have done the same in these circumstances.

One thing I like about the midfield, aside from lining up with three in the middle, is that it is full of energy, youth and industry which is something we have lacked since the days we lined up with both Fletcher and Anderson in 3 man midfields with Carrick holding. I also want to see Cleverley and Jones used in a three man midfield as I think it suits them much more than a 2 man midfield.

I'd have preferred Nani to get a start over Young now that I see he is available for today, as I think we need to get him firing but other than that, no problems. Welbeck deserves a start after the weekend and he suits this system more than Hernandez IMO.

BTW - Stoke are coming off a home league win over Chelsea and Hughes has been getting better performances from them in the last month so this is a test for a side who have had the type of season we have. Both Chelsea and City have not won their this season.

Do you think Hernandez and Kagawa fully fit or just not up to what could be 120 minutes of football?

You can't have seen that many then, particularly in the various cups over the years.

Taking into account we usually use this competition to give youth players a game, the back line is fine, the attack and midfield is crap, an out of form Young, Anderson who hasnt played in months, Welbeck doesnt strike me as a lone striker and will likely struggle to get involved, Cleverley looked good against a shocking Villa midfield other than that has been pants, Our squad players are not good enough for a club of our size

Suprised he's starting Valencia given he's surely played his way in to starting agaist West Ham, could easily have gone for nani/kagawa in one of the wide berths to keep him fresh, likewise suprised at Evra especially as he's gone for 3 in the middle so we should have control/be a bit better defensively.

Fabio must be off. Must be. Can't even get a game here.

I wonder if Moyes knows there's actually two of them?

I'll be interested to see if it's a genuine 4-3-3 or whether Cleverley or Anderson might play in behind Welbeck. Maybe even Jones! They wouldn't know how to handle him

I thought we'd have least had Rooney and Januzaj on the bench, it's an unappealing line-up but lets hope for the best.

Anyone get the impression Young is doing the job in training? Only explanation I can come up with.

To be fair to him, he was pretty excellent for about 5 games when we first signed him. Not sure what happened after that.

feck sake what has Fabio got to do to start??? This must all be part of Moyes masterplan to sign Leighton fecking Baines. Destroy Evra physically, play Buttner and show everyone he's crap, and sign Baines.

Other than that this is such a poor looking line up  atleast the bench has some class

Can I just say also that the jokes about Moyes' daughter are a bit crass

Rooney injured.
