Taking into account we usually use this competition to give youth players a game, the back line is fine, the attack and midfield is crap, an out of form Young, Anderson who hasnt played in months, Welbeck doesnt strike me as a lone striker and will likely struggle to get involved, Cleverley looked good against a shocking Villa midfield other than that has been pants, Our squad players are not good enough for a club of our size

There is only so much ro9om for maneuver so far as the midfield goes, if Moyes wishes to start Giggs at the weekend he couldn't have started today. Welbeck has played that role for England in the past and i think he has the capacity to do well enough, whether he becomes isolated will have more to do with supply issues and decent support from his team mates [after the goals against Villa he had to start].

I have no doubt that the XIs the club fielded when drawing with Exter and losing to Coventry, were a good deal more dispiriting.

Hopefully Moyes is just creating some mystery about whether Rooney will play on the weekend, playing some sneaky mind games. Either that or it's minor. God I hope one of those is the case.

Rooney being hurt might explain Hernandez and Kagawa on the bench, will need both of them to be fit for the next game or we'd be in serious shit up front.

It explains it a bit more. I still think Welbeck had to start this game and a 3 man central midfield is something we have to try and use more this season away from home and Kagawa and Hernandez don't really that to well.

I think Rooney mistimed the minor injury here, if he wanted Xmas off he should have waited until the weekend.

Mark "obviously" Hughes. He doesn't half talk like an office middle manager.

I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully with the protection of jones, anderson and cleverley will be able to attack with the same prowess as 2 years ago.

Welbeck and Cleverley will both be high in confidence after the last match so hopefully they can kick on from that. There's the potential for some good football to be played by our boys.

There is absolutely no creativity in that team
Pretty much our most creative players are evra and Rafael...tough game coming. Hope we have enough to get a win.

Hoping Anderson has a big game today, feel like all of our creativity depends on him.

Anderson gets a lot of stick on here but i'm hopeful that he'll take this chance to put in a good performance to remind us of who he was as a player.

Ballsy lineup by Moyes. I'll be well impressed if it works.

Don't like the look of the team.

Not a criticism of Moyes, just frustrated at how short we are.

Dammit Evra could had been rested for the League which is the most important.. Moyes co. are going to burn him out ahead of spring...
