Liverpool

I think they'll finish above us unfortunately. Suarez is just dismantling the lesser teams and they don't look like dropping enough points to them. They'll do fine against the big sides at home as well. I think Chelsea look more likely to drop out the top 4 atm, but they keep scrapping wins. 80 points might not be enough to get top 4 this year which would be mad.

Didn't Hull almost go from Top 4 at Christmas to relegation in May one year? They stayed up on the last day despite us beating them 0-1 with a Gibson thunderbolt. (The time Phil Brown sang on the pitch with the microphone on the last day.)

Yeah, I think they won only one after Christmas but scraped it. I remember them beating Arse and Spurs away early on and all the 'Hull 2-0 London' bollocks after the Beautiful South album. Load of bollocks. They had that Brazilian who was brilliant for about four months then fizzled out.

At the moment they don't, but if the goals start drying up for Suarez, they won't be dismantling anyone. As much as people said we were reliant on RVP last season, we also had Rooney and Hernandez chipping in. This season, he's been injured for long periods and we're still challenging. Liverpool would be literally fecked without Suarez banging them in, even against the shit teams.

Well, my experience with Alberto is that he took a little time to adapt to Barcelona B. At the beginning, he showed quality but was not working well within the offense. But in short time, he really found his place in the offense and began to flourish. By the end of the season he was as valuable as Deulofeu, IMO

I believe he will do similarly at Liverpool, if given a proper chance

That's what we all hope for. Suarez has still been annoyingly consistent, and showed no signs of slowing down though. The earlier that happens, the better!

Don't think they would be due to Sturridge, though I'd expect us to comfortably finish above them if Suarez picked up a long term injury. He's probably going to be worth around 15 points to them come the end of the season.

Listened to tonights game on 5Live and it sounded like a good game. In fact is sounded like Mignolet made a couple of errors for the goals. Liverpool created chances but City upped it before half time and decided the game. Still hoping for a top 4 finish but with Arsenal, Chelsea and United all getting results it's going to be very tough.

Through the terrible streams I could find we looked f*cking awesome at times. Passing out of trouble on practically our own goal line knowing that one single misplaced pass would lead to Toure, Silva, Navas or Nasri pouncing. All this with the likes of Lucas, Henderson and Welsh Xavi. Imagine getting in some 'decent' players this January and carrying on playing this style?

We held our own and scared the pants off City at times, at the Etihad. Wait 'til they come to our place, the Anfield Roar will kill them. :)

Suarez, Sterling and Coutinho looked a very dangerous 3 up front today. Get a top CB in and you're not that far off

Those 3 do look dangerous, but that was one of the worst games I've seen Coutinho play. Even then his influence is not lost on the team. Once he hits similar form as last season, or better, and with Sturridge and Gerrard back we should flat track bully the f*ck out of 'smaller-than-City' teams. Hopefully. Fingers crossed. That's all we wanted from Santa, er I mean our manager. Brendan is delivering on that front and then some. Whether we win the league or or not, or even finish in the top 4, there's no doubt he's setting the standards at the club.

Am likely way off here but would like to see a decent fast winger brought in to the squad who is not on loan. De Bruyne from Chelsea cant make their side but is a handy player. Might be worth a punt. Henderson and Allen didnt let Toure dominate as we know he can and the clear cut chances created were brilliant to see. With better finishing the game could have been very different.

We're after Mohamed Salah so that might be the tricky/fast winger you and Brendan are thinking of. Not sure where he'll play or in who's position once Sturridge is back too but no harm in having deadly options from the bench.

I never heard of Salah but Basel looked decent in the Champions league. Hope he adds to the team should he arrive. Agger looks like he is out the door soon. Don't suppose you know if Kelly is close to a return or has he fallen away a lot?

Kelly played in the match before City no?

Liverpool's form at the moment is good enough to easily give them a top 4 finish, which is aided by the lack of any european football and our shit start to the season, however, they don't have enough depth in the squad and any long term injury to any of their core players could hurt them badly, they need some luck and they deserve to have some, hopefully they won't get any.

In terms of the quality of football, we're frighteningly far off Liverpool at the moment. Same goes for Arsenal and City, while Chelsea look a bit shit but keep on grinding out victories.

I still reckon we'll snatch fourth ahead of Liverpool due to sheer squad strength but I'm not by any means confident.

Impressed with Liverpool today. Still don't think they are title challengers, mainly as I feel City are going to pull away soon. However I do feel they will make top 4, and be fighting for second, the difference between 4th and second could easily only be a couple of points though.
Fancy us to beat them on Sunday, despite form etc saying otherwise.

Some Liverpool fans got far too ahead of themselves anyway, even Bob the Builder "can we fix it" was top of the charts at Xmas for 3 weeks

Not really considering our 2nd highest scorer (Sturridge) is joint 4th in the table of top scorers despite missing the last 6 games. With him and Gerrard both to come back I don't think scoring goals is a problem, defending them is another matter.

Massively. Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez look potent whilst at least one if not two of them stay fit. But Enrique being out for a while leaves Cissokho in, and with Agger shagging Rodgers' wife you've got a major issue with Sakho. Looks so, so out of his depth.

I'd disagree on Sakho, he had a mad minute today but on the whole he has been pretty good, we miss Enrique a lot, and even Flanagan who has been excellent in LB. I think that Skrtel doesn't get the credit he deserves at the min, because for for every jersey tug he make a great clearance or last ditch block.

Skrtel has been poor for a while and Lucas has a tendency to never quite win the ball when he goes in for challenges so he is a)shrugged off by the opposing player or b) concedes a freekick. Coutinho i'm still not sure about but he is young and has room and time for improvement.

On the other hand, you really impressed me today. You played great football and deserved at least a draw some poor finishes. Suarez showed the other side of his game and was still as effective for me. Sterling is getting better game by game too. With Sturridge to return you look a good. Allen is getting better too.

Watching the replay, it's a bit underwhelming so far. Maybe the first time we all end up overrating Liverpool's play? A feckload of mistakes by Liverpool, a set piece goal conceded and a goal keeper mistake by Liverpool. Well, what do I know?

That's because the other strikers have fallen off. RvP has been out for quite some time now. Giroud hasn't scored in a while, Negredo has just started to hit his stride, and Rooney is providing the assists! Doesn't really mean that you will be fine when Suarez is knackered.

This has nothing to do with the fact that Sturridge has scored 22 goals in 30 games. We were fine towards the end of last season and the start of this season without Suarez, in fact if i remember he came into our team with us 2nd in the table?

I think we were talking about this season.

And anyway, you weren't in this "great" goal scoring form when Suarez was out of the team. They were all laboured 1-0 wins.

For all the wanking over Liverpool's form, it should be noted that in their last 6 away matches, they have gotten just five points from a possible 18. Their home fixtures in that time have included Fulham, Cardiff, West Ham and Norwich.

They need to find at least one quality midfielder!

A quality forward/full back is a more pressing issue, the midfield is good as it is imo, no star names on paper but a midfield 3 of Lucas Allen Henderson has the right balance/workrate to go toe to toe with any of the big teams midfield, and at home against the weaker teams Gerrard is still very capable.

Sakho is only a problem for people who watched his crazy five against city and think that applies to his game in general. He's excellent.

He isn't excellent by any stretch of imagination.

Roge Madrid
The boom cycle has seemingly gone on forever this season, found out easily yesterday and all that fecking about with the ball across the back line should have and will find Liverpool looking silly soon enough.
City had to much composure and as well as Liverpool played the gulf was enormous and hugely apparent.
Bust is in motion.
